MORE actors hijacking the writing?!

Does ANYBODY out there pay attention to what's happening on the other shows anymore? You'd think a lesson or eight would be learned.

That BI about a B&B actor wanting a real-life tragedy to be written in to the show so he/she can win an Emmy is SO obviously Hunter Tylo. And that's just shameful, if you ask me.

^^^ Yeah, I figured it was Tylo. But man... talk about a downer. No offense to the horrible tragedy she went through, but that's not exactly entertainment. Killing a character to drive story is one thing (i.e. Nash on OLTL), but killing her son on the show would just be awful television, with no real purpose.

—Which two superstar leading men are hijacking scripts, infuriating the soap’s writing team?

Eric and Peter from Y&R?

I hope to God its not Days.

I'll post my thoughts on the Emmys later.

Thanks Nelson. Really great column! Loved reading about the Emmys.

It was really obvious. LOL
Hunter must be desperate for an Emmy.

Nelson, Brenda Benet's son did not kill himself. He was only 6 years old when he died from a rare bacterial infection. A few months later, unable to live with her grief, Benet took her own life.

—Which leading man isn’t happy with his new love interest? Why, you ask? The actor wants to stick with his former co-star because she’s more famous and “would ensure my future employment.”

BD
I just pulled that from my behind :moon:.

^^^ That's a pretty good guess, actually. BD knows he's never been that successful when you move him out of AS's orbit.

Not that I'm against that. I would kill to see Lucas in his own storyline, outside of Sami's, where he's more developed as a character. I loved his stuff with the Hortons last year (when he changed his name from Roberts to Horton), and thought those scenes between him and Kate were beautiful. He doesn't need Sami - although why he's never had another successful love interest is beyond me.

The news about Life in Mars. Thanks for that very cool.

Lauren Holly's comment. Damn that was harsh, though in some ways even more true than when she worked in the industry. At least back then the shows had some rehearsal time.

“Airing them online could be an option,” she suggests. “If the show wasn’t live, the costs would decrease significantly. We need to change the format; we shouldn’t be copying the Academy Awards.” Leahey goes on to suggest that the live press conference format the Golden Globe Awards employed earlier this year due to the writers’ strike could be an easy, cost-saving measure for SOAPnet and other networks to consider.

“Do we really need a red carpet,” Leahey asks. “What fans really want to see are the clip packages and the speeches, which should be easy to arrange as long as the glitz-and-glamour machine isn’t attached. Stars could gather at their studios to accept their award, for example. The fact is the Emmys, as we know them, are a thing of the past, so we need to come up with a new solution. We’d even offer soapoperadigest.com to help announce the winners, and/or show clips submitted and acceptance speeches.”

With all due respect to Ms. Leahey(whose editorials I enjoyed reading when I was a faithful Digest reader), the format instituted now is a far cry from copying the dignified Academy Awards. I wish it were, so we didn't have ABC Fangurls mobbing every fucking ceremony, yelling and shouting when anyone on GH got their name called or came up to present an award.

And last year's ceremony was just embarrassing. They tried to capture that intimate, laid-back Golden Globes feel, but there were still those screeching, annoying fans.

The Daytime Emmys should have more restraint. It should be a respected awards ceremony with a red carpet. But it shouldn't be held at a huge venue and you shouldn't let just any nut walk through the door.

I'd support a scaled back Daytime Emmys, but not in the way that would remove the award show feel of it. And with the sorority house way Leahey and her cronies have allegedly run Digest and their awards show ceremony into the ground, I'd prefer they stay out of anything that has to do with the highest award to be given to anyone in daytime television.

I'd rather there not be a ceremony at all than for them to do an hourlong press conference and clip show. Daytime deserves better.

I wouldn't like the Golden Globes style during the WGA either. That was useless, and telling us who won with no speeches. Right, that was as good as a press release. Having viewers there is fine, but allowing them to be loud and obnoxious is wrong. That is not how you should behave at at award show. This isn't the VMAs where screaming makes sense in the guise of musical performances.
