I have to say that seeing how this is sweeps, the numbers for any of the soaps is not impressive in the least. There were some minor flucuations in one direction or the other but overall, they all pretty much stayed the same which is not a good thing. I opened this post expecting to see a big jump for GH, the pros at sweeps stories but there wasn't. |

I think it's good to see DAYS in the middle of the pack, although I know it is not by much. |

I agree. What is remarkable is that Days has stayed at a 2.0 for over two months. It's dailies have not been lower then a 2.0 in at least two weeks. Now they are starting to break into 2.1's and that shows they are building an audience back slowly. That is how you have to do it. I think it was Steve who said last week that if Days ever gets all it's demos up in one week, it will do very well and increase in HH. It always seems to gain in one or two and lose in one or two. The good part is that they aren't losing chunks of audience and they are up vs. last year. The past two years it's been gaining huge for two weeks and then losing all of it and starting again. Now, Days gains and when it loses it only loses like 44-54,000 and it gains that little bit back and then some. That is how JER built the audience in the 90's. He stabilized things and gave the show a stable base (which is what the show is doing now with it's numbers). Then, he did something big to jumpstart things and he made sure he had stuff to follow it up and keep things steady and to minimize viewer loss because you will lose some of what you gain. They key is to hold on to as much as you can to keep advancing your base audience. JER did that so that everytime he did something big he had a higher base of numbers to work off of. That is how the audience was built and Days needs to do that again. I realize no one went up really but the shows did the same and most got some pretty good dailies. I think the election helped a bit too. It's not a bad start to sweeps for anyone. Better to stay the same then go down. I'm shocked and disappointed GH didn't go up. I enjoyed it last week. Laura/Luke/Tracy has me really hooked, as does the Robin/Patrick stuff. I'm sad AMC is going back down. I know people expect OLTL and Y&R to go up but I'm just not sure anymore. Ratings aren't even responding to stunts. CBS also poorly promoted Y&R for sweeps. OLTL may get a +1 gain and that's about it but I wonder how much the possible Marty/Todd backlash will play a role. I do expect a gain for both OLTL and Y&R next week but I don't expect huge given the circumstances and current ratings climate. |

DOOL and AMC are the only shows up from last year in total # of viewers. That's a good sign but if some of this weeks announcements are true? DOOL will be dropping like a stone in the weeks to come. |
