If it's true Blake Berris is out, then I've got one less reason to keep watching DAYS! What a fucking shame, Nick Fallon was a unique character, not the typical soap hunk, someone I could identify with. What do we get instead? More talentless ex PASSIONS stars, who will have their shirts off 99% of the time. :D :D :D As for the other mooted firings - Steve and Kayla have been a real bore this time round, Lucas is irritating, Kate has been written into a corner, Melanie I couldn't care less about, and Roman will never be cut from the show(it does help when you're Ken Corday's golfing buddy LOL). JKJ has walked out! If James Scott doesn't renew his contract, that's the final nail in the coffin! |

What was it Dena said in her blog awhile back? "And to all you Nick fans, don't worry - we've got something great coming up for him?" Was she talking about a pink slip? It's like when she and Frank referred to Jennifer Rappaport's exit story on OLTL as "a really fun exit". Yeah, because strangulation in a garbage heap by a closeted gay serial killer is just a barrel of monkeys. |

I really think like Nelson said it is going to be a casting bloodbath here soon...I think that Days has to at this point drastically change it needs a HUGE BUZZ to jump start it if it is going to survive. Fresh faces (cheaper one's too) New direction and focus on a demographics like females between the age of 12 and 50. To me that means a teen scene. Women in the 35 to 50 age group can relate to a teen scene because they probably have teens. They need to get Will back here pronto and build a teen scene around him. Bring in Nadia's sister, make Melanie Nicoles' daughter. Give EJ a long lost son or daughter that he fathered years ago but may not have known about...Teen problems are relateable. If they cast this well these new kids on the block could create a following of younger viewers who will stick with the show as they grow older. Clear out the college crew and bring on the teens....and promo the hell out of it. . Edited by cjknick, Nov 15 2008, 08:58 AM.

I just found this over at sony .... from a big Drake fan! This Drake fan posts ..... Well, it is already out on the boards so I may as well break it here at Soap City since Drake and his fans could REALLY use your support right now. Drake has been fired AGAIN. Ken Corday PHONED his house and told him his character will be written out of the show. This news comes from our Fan Club President. I have no words right now, just a hell of a lot of tears. If this IS true then Good Riddance. I feel for Drake's fans, but this was a tough decision that HAD to be made. And I hope Corday sticks to the decision this time instead of backing out like he did during the strike. It's gonna get tough. But all those so called DAYS fans who are "fans of the show and not of one specific character" are gonna have their limits tested if the bloodbath is as bad as I think it will be. I am glad he got rid of one of the big four. Edited by bellcurve, Nov 15 2008, 10:09 AM.

You don't necessarily need an influx of new teenagers in Salem to bring in that 12-17/18-49 Demo. We already have a lot of younger people on DAYS being featured, but it means nothing because they're trapped in boring, predictable stories. DAYS was #1 in 18-49 for awhile after Marlena was possessed and they barely had a teen scene. Their teenagers, Sami and Lucas, were fighting for the affection of the way older Austin and Carrie, respectively. Tomlin/Whitesell can bring in the younger viewer without teen angst. They just need stories with a pulse. |

Wow, if true. John should have stayed dead a year ago, and given Dee a huge revenge story. I feel bad for the fans, but guess what, if the show is goner, everyone will be out of a job. I just hope Drake learns to talk with his normal voice again for other jobs ha |

Isn't there a bloodbath on Days every few months since 2003? Dumping Phil is a good choice though. All the others need to go too. 'Nick' and 'Melanie' should have never been hired in the first place. I'll have to tune back in after all these shitty characters are dumped for sure. |

Thanks as always Nelson. I can totally seeing Berris getting the axe. I really think Molly is here to stay awhile. I would not at all be shocked if Payla is written off the show. However, I think BD and LK are here to stay...ESP BD. For years so many rumors have been going around about him being booted but it always ends up being bunk. More then once back in the day I wrote into the studio to save him. The 30 is very slim and BD is part of that age group. It would make no sense to lose him esp if JKJ is going....And about JKJ, I really like this guy. I think he is a great actor and of course one of the perks about him is how handsome he is...What a loss to DOOLS, such a shame. |

Why are everyone so sure that Josy Taylor is safe? I know he is friends with Corday but he was fired during the SSK-storyline so I could see it happening again. |

I'm passed that age group, heck, my kids haven't been teenagers for a decade, but for me it's all about the writing not how old the characters are. It's not who is on the front burner that matters it's what they're given that does. I love Gossip Girl (well, Chuck and Blair) and I'm certainly not in the CW's desired demographic. :tink: |

I just want the "older" characters to act their age. When I watch OLTL, Clint, Viki, Dorian, Bo, Nora, all act their age and have interesting storylines. But on DAYS, the vets play characters that act like perpetual teenagers. |

You nailed it. There are 95 million Americans under 30 and over 7 - they need to find ways to tap into this audience and that means going with a mostly younger cast like they did back in the 80s when they reinvented the show to cater to the baby boomer generation. Exactly. The show completely changed it's major players and cast in the 80's, along with it's storytelling. In the 90's, it changed it's storytelling big time and it's cast a bit. There has been no change this decade for any soaps and that is a problem. Every decade has seen soaps in some way evolve to go with the times. That has not happened in this decade and they are suffering for it. Days seems ready to go through a major change, mostly because they are being forced to. It could end up being for the best, just like it was in the 80's. It's passed being needed. It was needed eons ago. |
