WOW! Is this show ever going to be recognizable again. They really should have not brought Drake back. John's death was a great week for Days. I still cry when I watch those scenes. And Deidra? Never thought that would happen. I haven't watched in at least 8 months, and I see no reason to come back. |

Wait- JANUARY? Does that mean this is a rewrite, or that it was planned and kept under wraps? I've barely been following the show since John un-died the last time, so I don't know where this story is. Still- that's very soon. Not even a sweeps deal, either then, I suppose. It's such a nice gift to the fans who've watched them for a decade or so to, y'know, never really show them happy together on-screen. Great payoff, great for all the kids to learn as they watch their own couples go through trials and tribulations. Though it's probably smart for the characters to run away and hide at this point, what with all the "death" and kidnapping, it doesn't really come off connected to that. |

I love Nicole, Melanie and EJ. As long as they are here, I'll be happy. Why oh why is Alison Sweeney not cut? They shipped Will off for two years and is scarcely ever mentioned. He has never seen his own baby brother and sister. Why have her on period. Just ship her out to Switzerland forever, too. Lucas and Chloe are fine, but with Daniel's fascination with her, and no word about his exit either, I think the show will go that route. Nu-Brady is going to have to win me over, but Rafe has won my heart already.

I guess I'm the resident heretic again, because I hardly equate this with any apocalypse or Armeggedon. So many characters (including major ones) have come and gone from TV shows so much, I just have to put things in perspective. I do feel sorry for those who enjoy J&M as part of a well-balanced Days diet. A combination of writing and decent acting is my deciding factor and if I get bored with Days or it gets cancelled, I'll just find something else to watch or do. And for those who watched only for them, be glad they have an opportunity to try new things. They haven't had anything good for a while, and I know of fans who quit watching because of that, so this should just make your reasons official. I'm sure they'll find work elsewhere. I'm just sick of the drama. I wish Days would cut the crap and get their shit together. If it calls for more cuts, so be it. If they keep only the good looking underwear models, we either watch or we watch something else. They are making business choices. They just may be taking the cue from banks and are making asinine business decisions. Who knows? It might also be a gamble that pays off for them in the end. Plus, an indefinite amount of time. It doesn't sound like the door is fully closed. It's possible they will be invited back when finances settle. Whether they take it or not is fully up to them, obviously. |

I understand that you have that attitude, but I can also see why you're one of the only ones here who does. Soaps exist for fans. If viewers just simply tuned in and out on a whim, soaps would fail. Soaps need to cultivate fans, and this board is full of them - fans of certain actors or actresses, characters, writers, producers, or any combination. One thing I enjoy so much about this particular board is how truly passionate the fans here are. So if you don't feel that passion for any part of the show - well, in a way I guess I feel bad for you. I wouldn't trade the past fifteen or so years of my Days 'fandom' for anything in the world, even if it is being taken away from me now. Edited by Ellie, Nov 17 2008, 11:11 PM.

U think Hall will be unemployed when Days comes calling? Also, Hall is akin to Eric Braeden and Susan Lucci; this has never happened before. Drake — whatever, but Deidre Hall? |

Not a chance. Yep. I can't get over it. She's a true icon and the face of the show. Once, when Deidre was signing autographs somewhere, there were a few girls who walked by the table where Deidre was sitting. They were speaking another language (I think Swedish). They stopped and stared at her, still having their conversation. I couldn't understand a word, but then I heard "Marlena! Marlena!" as they waved to her. As you're saying, each soap has one 'icon' like this, and I can't fathom Corday's logic in taking that away from Days. Edited by Ellie, Nov 17 2008, 11:50 PM.

There are so many different kinds of viewers. This situation upsets me because Days is totally chucking decades worth of history. I'm not a John and Marlena person, but I've sat through the devastation of soaps losing their minds. I see this as a horrible sign for Days because whenever a show gets rid of many cast members and/or recognizable ones--it hurts the overall program. If Days is going to end in 18 months anyway, why the liquidation sale? Are they just trying to milk the cow for one final payday before the end? Keeping Days on the air is more important than its quality. When Days cut so much of its cast back in the early 80s that was mainly new people (outside of the Hayes), that weren't working out and the show hit a slump. Instead of going with what works and getting rid of the extra garbage that isn't needed, or giving long time people outs to work on other projects (see how GH uses Tony Geary), this happens. When any soap gets rid of long time players, it is a bad sign for the industry in general. The legacy of passing the show from generation to generation is lost when the long-time fans get screwed. SIGH |

At this point it's kind of surreal. They have been so much a part of Days for so long. To me John and Marlena were the heart and soul of Days. Until the last couple of years, you just always knew that when they were around, no matter what was happening, everything was going to be all right, they were going to take control and make things happen and stay best friends no matter what. Some of that was taken away the last couple of years, but it's still there under the surface and I saw on today's show in their scenes together. I only hope they get a chance to shine for more then a moment at the end. I guess I won't fully digest what is happening until it actually happens. I don't want to either. I would like to thank Deidre and Drake for making John and Marlena such a wonderful couple, no matter if they were together or apart they were always a part of each other. The things that made them special couldn't be scripted. I am so glad I got to take this ride with them, all the ups and downs and sheer excitement of loving two characters so much. They where/are the best (ya, to me, lol). You don't ask to become a fan....it just happens. It's been awesome. :wub2: |

My brain can't wrap around and process the fact that Deidre Hall got fired. You just don't do that. I really need someone to tell me Corday is addicted to some type of substance because nothing else can explain this madness and I am not joking. |

I feel the same way. J&M's love was special to me. They were always there for each other, a true 'Love conquers All' couple to me. And even though J&M is the couple I've loved most thru the years, it doesn't mean I haven't enjoyed an awful lot of wonderful stories of other couples and characters. J&M were central to my enjoyment, but a huge part of that enjoyment came from the whole family feeling of the show. It always used to feel like such an ensemble family cast. I bonded with all the characters of the show. I'll never forget Jack and Jennifer saving John from the gas chamber (even though it was fake Jack and Jennifer). Laura helping Marlena thru the whole Kristen/Susan storyline. Abe always being a shoulder to lean on. I'll never forget Marlena crying to him about how he could love both John and Roman and she couldn't. Bo standing by John when he found out he wasn't Roman. I loved Vic as an evil nemesis early on, and loved when he changed for Izzy and he bonded with John and Bo after her death, and always wanted Vic and Caroline to get together even though in truth, Vic was evil evil evil. Now I miss Vic being evil. John bringing Hope to Bo at MB. Bo and John's talks about Hope/Billie/Marlena/Kristen. Carrie and Austin's star-crossed love with Sami paralleling J&M's and Jack and Jennifer's. Bo, Hope, and Abe helping John find Marlena when Stefano had her in Paris. The whole crew going to rescue Hope from the turret. John running to save Lexie then running up a bizzillion flights of stairs to save Shawn and Belle and Brady. John's drug addiction story was painful, but I loved Brady and Kate for helping John thru it. I cried with Hope when we lost Zack. I loved Carrie, Belle, Brady, Eric, and even Sami sometimes because they were John and Marlena's children (in spirit they all were). I grew to love Phillip because of his love for Belle and Claire. I loved Mimi as Belle's friend. The feelings that I had for J&M extended to most characters on the show in some fashion. Much as I love the other characters, losing J&M makes everything just unravel. They were the core for me. Even when they weren't on much, I'd watch for them and still enjoy other stories when they weren't front and center. This year has been the hardest year that I can remember. Not only did I feel that what should have been a wonderful J&M story was lost, no other stories stepped up to fill the void. It's painful to lose J&M like this, but I am glad that I've loved them all these years. I've liked many many couples thru the years, but there was no other couple or actor that I'm anywhere close to this passionate about. Just Drake and Deidre for 22 years. I would say Dee is bigger than Braeden but not as big as Lucci. Still so shocking. What a landmark in daytime history, today is. |

It sucks that Deidre and Drake got fired but no way in hot hell do I want either one of them anywhere near Y&R, especially Drake. That man's acting puts me to sleep and while Dee may be popular, I've never thought of her as a good actress. |
