According to a People magazine article, Monaco will not be topless in "Peepshow" and neither will her co-star, Melanie (Scary Spice).

^ My face watching DAYS

This news has made the email rounds at my office (many DAYS and ex-DAYS fans on staff). Suffice to say, many see this as absolute SUICIDE for the show.

DAYS has to rethink this decision AT LEAST about Deidre...my god SHE IS DAYS!!

Moreover, what awful news about Wayne :( He was always a favorite of mine as Vern. Loved the old DAYS of Vern and Jack at the Spectator.

Vern was always like a 2nd father to Jack. So damn sad :frown:

Does that mean he fired them before fanfest? They had to go out there knowing they were fired?

That is cold, and defiently unforgivable.

Nelson, are you any closer to getting a Deidre interview in the near future? I really want to hear her take on this, I hope she's ok under the circumstances.

Drake gave interviews at fanfest where he discussed that he wants to meet with the writers, he discussed the future of John Black's character, the direction of his story, etc. It just wouldn't add up.

I don't believe they knew during the Days event as two weeks ago was November 7.

Sharongate, bitches!

I can only imagine how hard it must have been for Dee and Drake keeping their firings a secret for two weeks. Damn.

Who wants to join me in starting a Tricia-Cast-Needs-To-Return petition? Or are we becoming too spoiled thanks to this magnificent show?

Here, here! Cast is fabulous and made the littlest of scenes she had something special.

Phoenix, you mean.....she might have possibly have had a reason to feel a little off and not quite herself? Perish the thought. ;) I'm just thinking back to all the hullabaloo about your comment from the event, and now, it seems like she might have had a reason to not feel 100%. Bless her heart. She's human.

^ Too funny, lady! I was going to make a comment about that remembering the fuss about how PR thought she looked "off" but thought I should let it go lest I stir a nest.
Love your balls!!! :)

Interesting the Dee and Drake are gone, KA and PR take massive paycuts and others expect to be fired, yet AS is smiling and eating her pickles just loving her story and hefty check. No wonder she had to be isolated in her own story...it isn't about her pregnancy! Nobody can stand to look at her!!! ;)
Just speculation on my part!
That's how I'd feel at my office...

You know, it really wouldn't add up though. Ellie is right. Drake was talking about future story and talking with the writers. Maybe Dee had a heads up (which may explain her on that day) but Drake sure as hell didn't. If Dee did know, that is pretty cold. Having then face their fans and not say anything...ugh.

However, if they knew for two weeks, that would mean there was plenty of time to talk with them and Corday. To me, that would suggest they did have a discussion because he had to tell them about the firing so the idea of paycuts had to come up. Not only that but, as loyal and classy as they both are, if Drake were as angry and didn't understand he would say something to the press before the two weeks. I really think that. Maybe Dee would too. They would want to get fan support going. I think they are both smart enough to understand what is going on and they both had story this year. It's not like last year with Drake. I think they are both upset but probably understand and would be ok with coming back later. That's just what I would think given the way they seem (again, my own personal perception based on things heard, seen, etc so I know nothing for sure).

Here’s my theory on all this if they knew about their ‘firing’ for 2 weeks…

I have always thought that ‘killing’ John the first time was meant as a stunt…it generated news, and created buzz…and there was some talk about him not being released to do other work (ie there was an exclusivity clause/release date in ADDITION to the typical 13 week cycle-option date). I can’t believe Drake went to Australia knowing he was gonna be ‘killed’/fired for real. The timing of the trip and the taping of his death scenes never added up.

I DO think that they did fire Drake as a stunt…but also a ‘test’. When he was ‘rehired’, the demos and HH went up—as they did when J&M were heavily featured in early 08. Demos and HH were also unusually high when their specific story was featured during the Olympics. The Wed of the SECOND week of the Olympics, which was almost pure J&M, were unusually high.

Dee’s contract was up in August and she ‘halted’ her fan club right around that time. She also said she was given ‘unexpected time off’ during the summer. Her contract renewal was never formally announced. She has been offscreen more than she has been onscreen. I cannot imagine she blithely walked into work two weeks ago and was taken completely offguard by the news…

I wonder if this is a test stunt/Sarah Palin-esque move. In other words, they (Corday, and all the vets) have known about the renewal negotiations for some time…and they had to know they would have a massive budget cut. The cheapest route would indeed be to truly fire the vets and keep the newbies—but they don’t really know if they can get away with that and maintain HH and especially demos.

I think this might be a ‘provisional’ firing…in other words, they need to see if the demos can hold steady without J&M on canvas. [The key point for me here is OFF CANVAS is a whole different ball of wax than being backburnered, etc. I know the DHs last show will be MY last show unless they return. BUT how many J&Mers/core DOOLers will lapse completely—like me (and I am in the sweet spot demo), they don’t know. Longtime J&M fans are suckers and hang on in with even the smallest shred of hope. I think they don’t REALLY don’t know what will happen to demos when viewers KNOW they are really gone.]

My bet is that ratings and demos will actually increase through J&M’s departure, as everyone, young and old, will want to know ‘how the movie ends’. Then, they will see if viewers are hooked in enough to newer characters/stories enough to keep demos and HHs high through Feb sweeps. (I would expect they will move PR and KA to front burner to help do this.)

If they hold steady, then the DHs are truly done. If they don’t hold their demos, the DHs will be asked back…and I will bet they knew that for some time. TIIC KNOW the ratings tank when J&M are romantic with anyone but each other—Ava was proof of that. The ratings slid and so did the demos. But will they really tank ENOUGH when they are gone for good?

I think the reason things have been such a mess is that they have been trying to set up a scenario where they can create real passion/traction with newer couples on a cheaper budget. HOWEVER, not only have most of them not caught on, they have been a sweet-ass disaster…Chan, Stax, Phorgan, Luole. Then there’s the split base of Lumi/Ejami fans. PLUS, JKJ and James Scott, who have the most potential to make younger women stick around when they get traction going (on the road to new super couple) may not be around much longer. And they WILL be scooped up by another show… Sweeney is going on maternity leave and she doesn’t REALLY need to be on the show—she’s on primetime…her contract is up next year…nothing is really humming right now and there’s not enough money to go around.

The reason DOOL is particularly in a fix is because of ALL the shows, it is truly known as the ‘supercouple’ show. That is the type of fanbase they attract. The core fanbase. They tried to ‘Y&R-ize’ the show, and it didn’t work. Can they live with 2 of the big 4 pimping younger couples until one or two catch fire? I really don’t think they know. If this ‘business strategy’ works, then they can live with the reduced licensing fee this way—without the DHs. If attrition is only among older viewers, then this will probably also stand true. If the attrition is high in the key demos, then they try to bring them back with the big news that DHs are the heroes to save DOOL. But will the lapsed ‘sweet-spot’ viewers come back? And if they do, either they need to in a big way, so they can raise ad rates and renegotiate the licensing fee…IF NBC even cares…. or If they can’t, then the DHs are just out of work a few months sooner than they might have been anyway.

Both DHs are highly paid, but on the older side—this will make it hard to find other work. So I would bet they would take a significant paycut/reduced guarantee to stay on the show…but business is business—if they can do without the most expensive vets, or fewer vets, then they will. If they can’t, they can’t.

I will bet the DHs knew this. Perhaps they are sad, angry, scared…if they are in on knowing this is some sort of stunt plan, though, then it is less undignified for them than it might otherwise be. The negotiations went to the wire for renewing the show at all…you can’t tell me the DHs didn’t know the score…when you have been around 30 years, you generally know the score. You may not be happy about it, but you know it.

Now that said, if they are released to look for other work, or truly are surprised/shocked by their dismissals, then the above is null and void. Because nobody comes back after a ‘surprise’ slap in the face like that unless they absolutely have to…which I am betting the DHs don’t, financially.

So, I guess it must have been a mutual decision after all.

I'm surprised this was kept under wraps for as long as it supposedly was though.
