Sadly I wouldn't miss GL. I haven't watched it since the mid 80s LOL

I am not going to give up on the show turning around until the show is officially gone. What I am perplexed with, is the strange story decisions they make. I can handle the new production model, I just can't handle the actual story that is airing on the show.

I've never watched GL but the thought of another soap biting the dust just saddens me as a fan of the genre in general.

I don't know who Ellen Wheeler is but if she sucks, I'm sure Corday will hire her.

Oh my goodness, if anyone hates Tomlin or how he produces Days so far as I've been hearing, Ellen would be WORSE.

I accidentally turned to GL one day several months when I meant to go to NBC for Days...and oh, I don't think words can DESCRIBE how horrible this supposedly excellent, great, futuristic production style is. They hyped it up so so much back in Spring or so, but it looked like they were in a FIELD! And there was only like some barn there...the lighting was AWFUL, as was the directing. I couldn't tell if they were using actual cameras or something else.

Honestly from my years of soap viewing, that has to be the worst production quality of a soap I've ever seen.

I wonder what's going to happen to the writers listed.

I'm glad to hear Sweeney joined Alfonso and Reckell in taking a paycut. As DAYS proved, no one actor is the show. This is an ensemble. And if some have to take paycuts, everyone should have to take paycuts.
I agree. I'm glad she did too, especially since she has a second job and is in a better situation then others. I had a feeling she may not.

The writer's situation is interesting. I wonder what will come of that. I'm shocked that it's even still an issue.

As for GL, I haven't given up but I do think it's time is up. Wheeler has done nothing right and there isn't enough returns in the world to fix the show. I just feel like a massive overhaul is needed but that even that won't help, especially when GL is not a soap that usually sees major ratings increases like Days, GH, etc. I don't want any soap to go, especially because of it's fans, but I do think GL is in a situation where it may just be time.

Good stuff this week, Nelson. Very interesting.

DAYS would greatly benefit from a production model similar to GL circa 2005-Jan. 2008. Limited sets, balanced cast use, and trimming the fat.

Salem could use a central location where all the town's action can occur, similar to GL's Main Street, but better. DAYS used to have that in Salem Place, the outdoor set where everyone ate, shopped, and in the case of Nicole, worked. It's strange to think why Corday hasn't used Salem Place again or at least have had the set modified or struck to fit a more efficient production model. The set is used outside, which is a plus because it doesn't use studio time or major lighting during the day. And everyone is going outside these days anyway.

They can't use it anymore.

Originally, they could not use it due to construction nearby but I remember reading there is something that prevents them from using it. It's a shame because it would save alot of money.

Days uses the hospital, Pub, and Dimera mansion a ton so it's been limiting itself for some time. I think one way they can help themselves at least for a bit is to do a Maison Blanche-like story. Maybe send half or most of the cast on some adventure where you only have to use one or two sets for awhile. That would be a good short-term fix.

DAYS has been coasting on short term fixes for the last ten years.

What I want is for them to fix these problems immediately, without another poorly written umbrella story involving an adventure.

A radical change in DAYS' identity might be suicidal, but they really have nothing to lose at this point. If I were in charge, I would have wiped half the cast off the map by now.

ETA: They should build the new Salem Place on the set.

Oh, I agree but I do think something like I suggested would help. If anything, the show needs a huge attention grabbing story that revolves around an event with many people together. It hasn't had that in awhile and this could fit that mold and save some cash at the same time.

The show really does have nothing to lose and I do think drastic changes to the canvas were needed eons ago.
