One of the saddest things about GL right now is that with the cast they have now, it should be a creative success. If only the writing was there. Like you said, they could age Blake's kids, and make Blake a major player again on the show. I would also age James, Beth and Philip's kid. Since it looks like Jude and Zach are gone forever with Harley's departure, I don't think it matters much anymore about the timeline of when the kids were born. There is still so much that can be done with this show. It's heartbreaking that it isn't being realized. Heck, with Rick and Beth still there, and Philip on his way back, a story with an aged James and Leah would be great. Philip's son, dating Rick's daughter. So much potential for good story. |

Aubrey was FANTASTIC as Marina... now here's an actress who should be on something prime-time or film (ABC, you bastards... lol), and yes, she was robbed of an Emmy nomination. Unfortunately, that storyline was the one that prompted me to e-mail CBS to tell them what an idiot they had writing GL. So I prefer to forget that story existed. ;) |

LOL! Is was just thinking the same thing, unfortunately, Days didn't figure this out first, seems they have been following in Guiding Lights footsteps with regard to how things are being managed, I wish they would have realized the vets are what keep people caring about what happens to the show, not the newbies, and started cleaning house with them before firing any vets. Look at AMC, Lucci still has her job, however, she's taken a significant pay cut, hey, at least she's still on AMC, unlike Hall and Hogestyn, she still has a job, they are now unemployed and waiting for what??? Sorry, I'm probably rambling, but, my kids and kitten are not helping me concentrate, LOL |

GL dumped on many of their older performers first, they finally may be switching things up and are going in the opposite direction. The people who are on that show, which are part of the younger generation, never really caught on with the audience. |

Yep, certainly not characters like Rafe, Daisy, and Grady. I would dump Cyrus, Marina, Natalia, and Mallet as well lol I think there was still a place for Coop and Ashley. But Coop certainly needed something to jazz him up. Hopefully a new role on another soap will do the trick for the actor. |

I'd take Driscoll on Days as Jeremy if Michael Weiss returned as Mike. Weiss/Driscoll as father and son? *THUD!* :-) Seriously, I'm really glad GL is making these moves in the right direction, but if Daytime Confidential is to be believed, they only have four months to get the numbers up, and the way things are going these days, even the soaps getting it REALLY right aren't able to get the numbers up. I think this is a losing battle for them. Which is just awful. Springfield was a wonderful place to visit for many years there. |

I think you're right, brimike...the odds are stacked against GL getting the numbers up by April. Had those in charge implemented these new decisions back in February, perhaps the situation would be a lot different, and the show wouldn't have lost 20% of its audience. I personally don't think that was all because of the new production method...I think it was because there were NO coherent stories at the time. Combine bad stories and new production method and you get a major audience drop. People will stick around for good stories, acting and characters. GL has actually been pretty good the past week...the scenes around Shayne/Dinah/Mallet/Marina proved that the show can deliver good soap even with the new production method. I found myself excited to see the next episode...that hasn't happened for a while. If they could just keep those cameras from shaking...! Miracles do happen...maybe GL can draw enough people back to reach 1.7 or 1.8. I hope so...it'll be hard to say goodbye to Springfield...and for me, soaps...after more than 25 years. I have high hopes for the return of Grant Aleksander, but his return has to impact the entire canvas, and really become a big thing. If GL can only raise their ratings from the 1.5 they are at to a 1.9, where ATWT usually is, maybe there is a chance for the show. |

Agreed, Goldy. These shows usually have a "magic number" the network wants them to attain in the 18-49 demos to prove they're still viable. If GL can show steady rises over the course of the next four months, it might get another year. But honestly, I'm really not sure what they're going to do that's different now, that they haven't been doing for the last year. It's not like there's any new blood behind the scenes. Sure, Grant is amazing - but what could they possibly have Philip do that would get half-a-million-more thirty-something women to tune back in overnight? A few years ago, I was as angry about GL and P&G and TeleVest/Next as I am today about Days and Corday Productions. But in the last year, GL just has my sympathies. All of those people who are part of it, those jobs, their families... and all the fans that don't own a Nielsen box and still consider Springfield their home away from home, and still manage to hold on out of loyalty. No more anger from me. Just bummed out. |

Philip is connected to so many characters still on the show, that he really could shake up the entire canvas of characters and completely turn the show around. I always loved the chemistry between Alexander and Chappel; they would be great together again. Although, forgive me if I'm wrong, I seem to remember reading there was some backstage tension between the two. Philip needs to have an impact on the Spauldings, Rick and Beth, Blake, cousin Dinah (which they seem to forget a lot), the remaining Coopers, everyone. When it comes to the soaps, I just can't and won't give up until it's officially over. And I refuse to accept that it's over. ;) |

Some of them I like but, overall, not a bad decision. Ordinarily, I would hate gutting the future but GL doesn't have much of one so...ok decision, I guess. Driscoll would make a good Jeremy for sure. Edited by PhoenixRising05, Dec 14 2008, 11:05 PM.

If it is done right, Phillip's return could be a great umbrella story for so many characters. The first reunion between Phillip and Blake should be especially interesting...after all, Phillip is indirectly responsible for Ross' death. My wish is that Phillip comes back to town with India von Halkein...it would be quite the twist to find out he's been hiding out with her for a while. She would have exacted a price from him, of course...maybe she and Phillip could take on Alan and Beth (and Bill and Lizzie) for control of Spaulding/Lewis. Hmm...could Lawrence Decker really be a front man for...Phillip? |

I totally forgot about Philip's part in the plane crash. Wow, the Philip and Blake scenes should rock, if it is addressed |
