Well, after last year, I have hope they may get more then a token nod.
Ed Scott was here for half the year and I think they can still get recognized, despite all the scandal. Not to mention Gary Tomlin is well-liked around the industry too so I think Days can score more then one.
I wonder if Gary and Corday will want to send in one of Ed's shows. Just a thought.
Hmm...I would think they will. They would want the publicity any way they could get it. I mean, last year they submitted Hogan's work after they axed him and his team so I don't think it makes a difference. Granted, the scandal may play a role but I think they will want the recognition.
Yes but Hogan wrote almost the whole year (officially). I can really see both sides of it. It's just that Corday's ego gets in the way... well, almost always, lol. So I can see him deciding to just ignore anything Ed did. Of course, I hope they submit Ed's episodes - imo that's their only chance of winning.
True. We'll see but I think he will want the publicity. Corday is a publicity whore. Hell, I think fires people for publicity LOL.
I'm sure people are going to jump all over me for this, but I wasn't really impressed by Peggy McKay's performance. I remember watching and wondering if she was going to do anything more than having her eyes tear up. Now, part of this is that her character was shortchanged in terms of the writing, no question. But to me, she didn't really convey what I've (unfortunately) had the opportunity to see in my life when someone of her age loses his/her longtime other half.
I see where you are coming from Ellie, but I think it's just a matter of preference. I prefer subdued performances. The Eyes and facial emotion for me, is what makes me think someone is a great actor.
I remember watching Susan Lucci scream and whither around on Mona's casket and felt nothing because IMO it was way too over the top.
i agree with you Rick. It takes a lot more talent for an actor to portray emotions with body language and/or facial gestures than verbally. Thus, Darin Brooks's Emmy nominated single tear. And Peggy McKay is a HELL of a lot better than Darin Brooks! :D
^ And I understand what you're saying too, Rick. To me, sometimes subdued performances are necessary, but overall I find myself thinking, does this look like what would really happen if a person were in that situation? I didn't see the Lucci scene you're talking about, but doesn't sound real at all to me. Peggy McKay just looked a little too subdued; I think a person in that situation would be much more affected by what had happened. But again, just my opinion! Either way, I am very glad they gave her the opportunity to actually do more than serve pie!
I've been to quite a few funerals where the person was in such grief, they were numb and all they could do was let tears well up. They're trying to hold it all together, then when it's all over and the visitors are gone and the finality sinks in, then they let go. This is not at all unrealistic.

Oh, absolutely. What I'm saying is that Peggy McKay's performance just didn't convey that to me.

Best Episode: The Plane Crash (Days of Our Lives) So raw, real and terrifying I found myself gasping for air right along with the passengers. Go figure: The hour was stunningly produced by Ed Scott, who would soon be fired.
That should have gone to Storm's Death on B&B IMO.

Ooh, that was good too and didn't involve a money-tossing stunt.
The plane crash was amazing, but I liked the episode where Marlena put Stefano in a coma. That whole week (or 2-3 episodes at least) was pretty intense.

Neither did Days, lol. Theyve had that plane set forever, a little camera shaking costs nothing.
I thought the best episode of the year was on OLTL when Dorian DiMera (as Nelson would say lol) took over BE from the Buchanans. I just felt it was all around good soap. Melody Scott gets ignored the same way Dee does, because their performances can be so over the top. But, in most cases, it's part of their character, so I enjoy it. I thought Melody was hilarious when she was drunk and called Kay. I'm glad that Logan recognized it.

Are you sure about that? I think I remember reading that they brought in a special plane just for these scenes, and that it was quite expensive. (Worth it, imo, but expensive.)

Yeah, I remember the actors blogging about how that plane was built on a big machine that flipped it up, down and all around. I'm sure it was pretty expensive.
