I love to see DOOL climbing. I don't care what the reason. Maybe our beloved show will get saved. |

DAYS Monday: 2.1/2,987,000 Tuesday: 2.1/2,923,000 Wednesday: 2.2/2,805,000 Thursday: 2.0/2,935,000 Friday: 2.1/2,819,000 Here's the funny thing, although the rating on Wed. was the highest, the total viewers wasn't. Monday had the most viewers, followed by Thurs. then Tues, Friday. Wednesday actually had the least amount of viewers, but Days did have a larger share of total viewing audience on that day. Yep but the most positive thing out of those numbers is how they didn't have one under 2.0. In fact, they only had one 2.0 and those are the highest dailies in months. I don't like to count the Olympic weeks because that had more to do with them having a lead in from the games. It's pretty much the best dailies they've had since early Spring, I believe, That is the best news out of all this and that is how you build an audience. You have to hook them for the whole week and the audience stayed for most of the week, at least for the most part. |

There is a lot I am liking on the show; Rafe and Sami, Ej/Nicole/Brady, Stephanie and Philip, Max and Chelsea. Everything feels fresh for the first time in years. |

Couldn't agree more. The canvas needed change. It's not perfect and there is still a ways to go but I'm liking most of it. Things had been stale for a long time and I'm glad someone decided to stir things up a bit. |

I had some trouble with them early on because I think they isolated Sami and him way too early. It dragged alot but the past month or so has been better as they have been doing more then bickering and you feel the story is finally moving. I don't think they are sizzling yet and I'm not even sure they will but I have seen SOME chemistry. I know some people who watch that do like them, too. I think they have some chemistry, but Sami is such a brat, and GG can NOT act! |

Well, yeah. All the ratings suck but Days is one of the only soaps up vs last year in pretty much everything and it's by a significant amount. They got their highest demo numbers in months and are 3rd in total viewers, all during a week where virtually nothing happened but story building. That is what has shocked everyone LOL. It seems like the show has built back an audience the past few months by staying steady, during a time when most fans seem to be pissed (at least on message boards) so it is rather shocking. |

Some soaps have worse ratings but that does not mean Days ratings are good, they still suck. |

Is it possible that board members, by and large, have been devoted for years and are just not liking the current style as opposed to the past? I mean, maybe the average viewer just kinda hangs in there and maybe doesn't even watch, but has the TV on. But, they don't get invested in the show or take it as personally as we crazy people who keep discussing them on boards and dissecting them, LOL. I'm not sure my meaning is coming out. Who knows what is helping? I think Days is also being promoted a little bit more, which might be helping, too. Someone at SON mentioned folks being intrigued by the whole Nicole/EJ/Sami thing, which might be a possibility. Anyway, it's a thought. |

Considering where they were, they are good in this current climate. If you look at it in terms of how far soaps in general have dropped, no they aren't good. But when you consider where some shows were in the past two years, any positive gain, especially the one Days has, is considered good. |

I think you make a point. I usually watch Days alot of the time with others and sometimes they read the boards when I'm on them and they think none of us have lives LOL. They just sit, watch, and wait until the next episode. They don't pay attention to who writes, directs, etc. There have been times where they have quit watching but it's usually out of boredom or because something pissed them off. Some are enjoying the current material, some enjoy some of it, and some hate it and don't watch. That is just the people I know that watch or watch with me. It's varied right now. They don't seem to mind the steering away from vets either. They kind of got sick of some of them LOL. I've always said that the online era has led to a more spoiled, critical, and too intelligent for their own good soap fan. That doesn't mean these people are wrong. It just means these people, including myself, are exposed to stuff we never used to be exposed to like more detailed advanced spoilers, day aheads, behind the scenes stuff, etc. It's no longer about what the mags or show gives us. We know more and, therefore, we can analyze more. I think that affects what you see on boards. I mean, the ratings so suck in retrospect but if you look around the boards, you would think GH and Days are in last and second from last place with all the complaining yet they aren't while OLTL and AMC, who are getting accolades, are at the bottom. It just goes to show you how different people are and how everyone watches for different reasons. The current audience that counts in the ratings is weird to figure out because shows like Days go up in weeks where nothing happens but don't move or decrease in weeks where they actually do more. It's hard to figure out but the way I see it any gains, particularly big ones, are good for soaps. In Days' case, they have been steady for months and now seem like they could be gaining a bit more momentum and that is very good. |

Yes, I am clear on how you feel about the show lol But for me, I enjoy it. I enjoy that there are finally new stories and new relationships. I'm interested to see the Sami and Rafe relationship develop and see how EJ and Rafe react to each other. I like Philip and Stephanie; I'm interested to see what happens when KAte and Lucas learn about Daniel and Chloe. Sorry :) |

During the time period when when DAYS was #2 in households and #1 in demos in the 90's, the show was beaten up on a daily basis. Everyone complained about it, said it was awful, horrible, the worst thing on television.... Discussion boards are great for "discussion," but I don't think the average viewer watches a soap the way we do |

I think I just may frame this or put it in my signature. This is so true. I remember talking to people in the 90's and they said the stories were dumb and the characters were dumb but many watched purely out of entertainment. That is why in the 90's while the soap was getting new fans it was alienating old ones. People rave about that era but many long-time fans were alienated and stopped watching and it seems like that is happening all over again. only now people have boards to voice those frustrations and now it's the reverse. Many of the people who started in the 90's watching the show are angry and turning it off and new fans seem to enjoy it more and some die-hards that stay no matter what (me included LOL). Your right on that average viewers don't watch like we do. That is why I've tried to put myself back in that mindset. I did it with Days a few years ago and this year with all the soaps and let me say I'm enjoying them alot more by putting myself in the mindset of an average fan rather then one that goes online, visits boards, etc. Not saying that is a bad thing but it is interesting because some people act like the 80's and 90's were so perfect and that everyone loved them when you had just as many fans being alienated at times. You just had no way of hearing from them without the internet or message boards outside of the magazines. |

I have old Soap Digests from the 70s and 80s, and viewers then too hated their soaps lol I don't think DAYS is a masterpiece, but I enjoy it for the most part. I think the focus on characters like Nicole, Stephanie, Philip, Chelsea, EJ, Rafe, Brady, Chloe, Sami (ok not so much of her all of the time lol), will ultimately benefit the show. If DAYS can combine that with a healthy does of family (more Maggie, Doug, and Julie please, and a top notch story for Bo and Hope, I think we will have a good 2009. |
