Soaps just don't bump up during the holidays like they used to. Sure, Days is up but last year they had a bad week going on to the holidays I believe. Days has done well all of December so this bump doesn't look like much. Good job considering though. They keep going up but it's clear the youth helped them as they lost in 18-49 and 18-34. Still doing very well though. Friday killed them. They may have gotten a 2.2 if not for that. Good to see everyone up. I really do think many soaps should've just chalked up Friday and made it a special. Pretty much everyone was home from work and the weather seemed good. I doubt anyone stayed home that day or sat down to watch soaps. I know most soaps did ok but it could've been much worse. They lucked out. I wonder what Days and ABC did for the Friday January 2nd episode. I wonder if they will make it a special. I would given it's the same situation as the Friday of December 26th. Very risky. I think CBS was off. Maybe they will think people will tune in from CBS. I still think they would be better off not counting it, just like the 26th should not have been counted. I'm just glad that December was a positive month for most soaps overall. Edited by PhoenixRising05, Jan 6 2009, 01:32 AM.

There is some positives. Everyone was up in total viewers. OLTL did go up a bit in 19-49. They tanked in 18-34 but any pluses are good IMO. |

I don't know the reason but Days is doing better and are consistently doing better over the past few weeks and months. I have no idea why Days is doing better in the younger Demo's but TPTB have to be happy that Days is on the incline rather the decline .... I'm sure people can spin it but the numbers for Days are consistently better. It will be interesting to see what the impact on the ratings will be when J&M are gone! I suppose the Passion guys may have brought over viewers I suppose the younger demo's like Melanie - it is to early to tell on the Stephanie/Phillip s/l since they are just a few weeks into that s/l. I suppose viewers are responding to EJ and Nicole or just Nicole positively (I would hate this but it is what it is) Edited by cjknick, Jan 6 2009, 09:45 AM.

DAYS usually does well in Dec/Jan and is relatively stable in the summer/fall. Feb-April tends to be the show's danger period. ^Your right, Ponz. That seems to be the drop off period and they tend to have up and down summers and stabilize in Fall. Hopefully, they change things this year. |

I think they need to give these Passion boys a bigger part of the story and spice it up a bit ... I think the Passion boys brought with them some fans - best to give them good stories and more screen time before they lose what they have gained. |

The one good thing Tomlin is doing right now is not making any empty promisses. The characters and stories which are on FB will be most likely on FB most of the year. Itīs take or leave, and while I understand a lot people is not happy, IMO itīs better than have S/K or J/M or any other vets appear on almost every day for a month or two, letting people believe they will lead the show again and all the time knew the fantasy will be over as soon as their guarantee is reached. IMO thatīs what hurts the show most because the newer characters never get a chance to be accepted as new lead that way, they are always just a replacement, a filler, something viewers have to survive to see their favorites again. They are led on and next disappointed. Itīs like when the show rehired Tony and Anna. Corday had to know they will never get a frontburner place their fans would want to see them in, it was all about empty promises. And the next thing he does he lets them married offscreen. The show is honest right now. It says those are the characters/stories we want/can afford to use, you can accept the change or move on. And while there are some who really leaves, there is a lot who stays and even starts to enjoy things again, as the stories really are not so bad, and itīs quite nice to care about a story which can evolve logically, show all the points, and is on more than 10 mins. two times per week if you are lucky. That said, Iīm happy with the way Tomlin and co. stabilised the show for now, but I fully expect them to really steam it up after March. They will have the actors they need, no expensive contracts and guarantees stopping them, the behind the stage upheal is hopefully behind us as well, so there will be no excuses anymore. The show needs to do the same thing Langan and Reilly did in 1993, set things up, not matter how painfull, and next dart out and donīt stop. Edited by jane1978, Jan 6 2009, 01:39 PM.

^^ I think you're making some valid points, but I think the other side of the coin is that what the show will likely be left with is a terrible writer and lots of people who can't act. In other words, maybe the show's 'vision' will be more cohesive, but their new vision might be one of a Salem that nobody's interested in. If the show is flooded with new characters, then even if the characters are on consistently, does that mean the audience will all of a sudden start to care about most of them? I really don't think so. To use the example that you cited, when Tony and Anna came back, a lot of viewers did care. But the show dropped the ball with them, and the viewers were left with nothing. When Chloe and Dr. Dan are on every day, 'consistently', do viewers care about them?? imo, no, most viewers don't. Ultimately I think the ratings will determine which of us is correct, but I'm just trying to point out that a cohesive vision won't get the show very far without the necessary acting, writing and production talent behind it. |

good post ... I agree Tomlin needs to make the cuts, balance the budget, stop the bleeing and stabilize and then he can build again on what is left. The fact that the ratings have stopped from free falling is a good sign. I understand that Feb-Apr is the worst time for ratings but if Days can maintain thru those months and bring it in May/June and give us a great summer s/l they maybe able to survive if not on NBC then perhaps another network or cable channel will pick up the slimmer version of DAYS! |

Ok, I just gotta ask. Does no one see the trend with girls 12-17 and men 18+ going up? Chloe/Daniel soft porn? Cleavage everywhere? Guys taking their shirts off every chance they get? I really don't care about the ratings, in fact, I'm becoming enthused about the 23rd just being over, but this just seems so obvious to me. Given the writing of this show, I'm not sure it's not the best way for them to go, assuming the advertisers want this as their target audience. |

I have two daughters one is 15 and the other 22 over Christmas break they were both reading the Twilight books side by side they would not put them down I came in turned on the TV to watch Days they both left the room so they could read their books - then one day same thing they were reading I came in to turn on Days they noticed the Passion boys were on and they put down their books and watched Days. I never really watched Passions much (I thought it was stupid) but apparently my teenage girls did! So perhaps Passion's appealed to a younger audience and now that the Passion boys are on that younger audience is finding Days! Edited by cjknick, Jan 6 2009, 03:47 PM.
