I think Danny's horrible scream at the end of the song was enough to ruin the whole performance, but it was no where near enough to cancel out his consistently strong performances throughout the whole season. No way does he deserve to go home tonight. |

I totally agree. I am just scared his fans will do what Adam's fans did last week and not vote! |

ITA agree Danny apparently hits one bad note this whole season and he's a goner - interesting! Danny apparently has one shrieky moment to Adams 20 and he gets nailed for it - interesting! Adam gets a pompus over the top entrance and everyone is like wow and Danny gets bashed for attitude. Edited by coffeelover, May 6 2009, 01:12 PM.

First off, Danny has hit more then one bad note this season. Most of his performances in the middle part of this season were mediocre at best. Adam's pompous moments usually come within the performance because he is trying to do TOO MUCH. I'm not a HUGE Adam fan but I don't mind him. Danny's, on the other hand, attitude has nothing to do with his performance. He can't seem to control his smugness since he's reached the top 12. It was bad enough before when he participated in the show's exploitation of his wife's death. Then, his smugness took over. Hell, half the time he ignores what the judge's have to say. There was even one week where he completely disregarded what a mentor advised him to do. Even last night when the judges said it sucked, he said he may have sucked but HE would have to go back and check to be sure. Then you have the fact that his lower register sucks. He only sounds good when he goes into his upper register and when he points and moves around like a buffoon all I see is Taylor Hicks: Version 2.0. Those that like him...that's great. However, comparing what Adam does within a performance to what Danny does is just unfair and does not compute IMO. Edited by PhoenixRising05, May 6 2009, 01:19 PM.

I started picking up American Idol again a couple weeks ago because I heard Jennifer Hudson would be singing, and the show drew me in so I've begun watching regularly again...the last time I watched the show was YEARS ago....maybe the third or fourth Season. And wow, one thing I have to say is that Simon has changed. Well, he's still Simon, but he really praises people ALOT more now(Adam) and while he still bashes some(Alison), I just remember him being SO critical of EVERYONE back in the day...its kinda weird. Randy and Paula are just the same old same old....I like Kara but from what I've seen she doesn't bring anything interesting to the judges table. Now, onto the contestants....first off, I'll say I love Adam, and I love Alison. I'm not a punk rock-type person like the look they always have, but I LOVE both of their singing....Adam's been good and so has she. I definitely think that they may be the final 2, like others have been saying. Because I've only been tuning in for a few weeks now, while its been enough time for me to gather an opinion on some of them, Kris comes off as sort of...meh to me. I mean, I like him, but I don't think he's had anything to shine with...so I don't really care what happens to him. I liked Danny, I REALLY did....until last night. And originally, I was thinking that Danny and Adam would be the final two, but last night blew all that to hell. I mean...I kind of liked the song he sang alone, but then there was that absolutely horrifying scream...and the duet was just bad. So I hope he's the one who goes home tonight...I just hated that singing last night, I really did. I laughed at Paula dancing like that, though. :P |

Whatever happens, I do think this has been the most talented final four (final five even) in the show's history. |

I happen to think that Danny is doing a wonderful thing in setting up his wife's foundation. She loved children and she wanted a big family and Danny in her loving memory is helping children. I find it heart warming! |

I didn't like him in the beginning because of the wife stuff, but I really think he has toned it down. |

It is not necessarily the contestants fault what the producers are going to play up ... Remember Fantasia - and her story about being a single mom and then Chris Daughtry he gave up his dream to marry a single mom and became a father to her children and instead of following his dream he worked at a building supply store... Then we had Scott this year with his blindness and remember Elliot they told a story about his mother and played that up too. Remember Anthony Fedorov he was not even supposed to talk let alone sing. Carrie Underwood was from a small town and never had been on a plane before. Kelly Clarkson had to sleep in her car and had to go home because she was broke and then the most famous story of all was Kelly Pickler and how her grandparents raised her because her mom left and her dad was in jail.... Wow, no wonder Paula's been hinting at leaving the show. I just read on Perez/MJ's that she only makes $2 Million a year compared to Simon Cowell's $36 Million. |

That isn't what I'm talking about. That is wonderful, yes. The exploitation has not been toned down. Sure, we go a week or two without hearing about it but then we hear it alluded to. It's prevalent in many of his song choices. Most of his song choices this year have made subtle hints at the tragedy he has been through. Hell, a few weeks ago, he sang "What Hurts The Most," for heaven's sake. The judges also allude to it at times too. Sure, that is not his fault and I'm not blaming him for starting it but I am blaming him for going along with it, which he has. He could've blatantly rejected it in his interviews (the show and judges love him so they would likely cave to whatever he wants) or he could've picked different songs that don't keep emphasizing the same thing all the time. It's not even just the wife issue anymore. It's the smugness. It's the feeling I and many others get everytime he stops performing when he just stands there with a smug 'I'm better then everyone else and I know it" face. That's the same look he shows week after week when he is declared safe too. It's one thing to be confident. It's another thing to be smug and to show other people up and that is exactly what he tried to do last night. I won't even get into his annoying mannerisms while he sings. Taylor Hicks II is all I will say about that. Having said that, King is right. This is definitely the best top 4 ever, especially in terms of talent. Anything can still happen and tonight should be great! |

Yep. I knew she would be difficult about her contract next time around. I expect Randy to push for a raise too. That really is a big discrepancy though. Fox said they want everyone to stay so I expect them to make a good offer to Paula. Whether she seems it enough is another story. Part of me thinks she will stick around because at least this is a sure thing. Her music career is far from that, as is her jewelry line. |

Do you know Danny personally or something? How can you judge this guy based on a few apperances on a TV show? I think it is terrible that you are slamming a guy who loved his wife, lost her and is doing things in her memory. If my husband were to die I would be still think about him 24/7 it would be like a part of me was ripped out of me. I would move on of course but pretty much all my thoughts would be of him. It is really painful to lose someone you love - but you pick up he piece and make do. And as far as smugness - Danny is dealing with Simon and he isn't intimidated I think it's a good thing. Danny could be the nicest guy around for all you know! |

Listen, I feel bad for Danny and what happened to his wife and, regardless of my feelings about him, I can appreciate his strength and how far he has come. However, I and others have a right to judge him on what we see, even if we've never sat down and had coffee with the guy or something. I will not hold back just because the guy suffered a horrific tragedy. I treat him as equal to everyone else. If I end up being wrong down the road, fine. That's happened before. However, after seeing this guy week after week and hearing and reading interviews with him, I feel like a I get a general sense of the guy and certainly enough to be able to see what he's like. Just like I'm sure you and others make comments about the other contestants. Just like David Cook last year. He was very arrogant early on and I remember being hard on him too but, over the course of the competition, I came to like him and even admitted I was wrong about him once I realized how great of a guy he was. If that same thing happens with Danny, then I will happily admit I was wrong. Perhaps you should look back in the thread too because last week I actually acknowledged that Danny came off likable to me last week in his interactions with Alison, particularly during the good fight. I also mentioned last week that I liked his performance for the first time since the top 12 started so I do give credit where credit is due. I comment on what I see and one does not have to visit the guy's home or hang out with the guy to get a sense of who he is. His behavior on the show and performances speak for themselves and, I can assure you, people are saying much worse then me, even on this very board, so I don't understand why my comments are singled out anymore then anyone else's. I still have yet to see this smugness that is mentioned so frequently. If standing still, smiling, and quietly taking the judges criticism is smugness, then ok. That is what I see. He even mentioned last week (or the week before, I forget) that he reviews the tapes of the judges comments so he can apply them and try to make the changes that they suggest. If he were smug he would stand there and say, "I don't care whatthey think", like Megan did. But he clearly does care what they think, just not enough to let it get to him to the point where he will stop smiling and being positive and happy to be there. That's the sense that I get from him. On the other hand, I feel like Adam's humility is a complete act. I think his "surprise" at all his praise is bullshit, and I think that was proven when he put himself with the top group of Danny and Allison, and turned beat red upon discovering that he was actually in the bottom. Talk about arrogance? That's where I see the arrogance. |

Gotta love the intense video intros LOL. As if top 4 week isn't intense enough. Slash was too nonchalant for that video intro. Kind of ruined the energy LOL. Paula and Kara look GREAT tonight. Love the bangs on Kara. Alison looks GREAT too. Totally rocking the rock look. LOL to Ryan's joke about Randy being the one to perform. I love cheesy jokes on this show. Finally a decent Ford video. Only the second time this season I've liked one. Maybe it's because I liked the song playing during it but it was pretty cool and creative. That group performance had some issues at the beginning. The microphone screeched a bit at one point and of course Kris and Dannyj ust coudn't pull off his solo vocals. Once they all came together and sang together, it worked out well. Adam and Kris rocked their solos and Alison hitting Danny was hilarious! I saw the WTF look on Danny's face and could tell she hit him too hard and he was surprised by it. I wasn't surprised when Ryan asked Alison about it and she said she got carried away LOL. I love Alison getting all aggressive and feisty last night and tonight. Slash performing with them was pretty cool. I figure it's because of time constraints since they have a packed night but still pretty cool. Sounds like he lost his voice a bit as he could hardly talk after the performance. Would've liked to see his eyes though. That album he talked about sounds cool. Watching this interview right now, Kris sounds like he is already resigned to leaving. How did I guess Ryan would ask Simon about that attitude of Kris's? Hated Simon's comment about not wanting humble right now. That must be why they want Danny. I have to give Danny credit though for admitting how horrible and funny it was what he did last night. That showed a little humility but, judging from Simon's reactions, it seems to have made the judges like him more. Danny seems to know how talked about he was after last night though. Who the hell would make that scream a ringtone? LMAO I like how Alison said that Simon was asking for it. Keep that fiestiness going, girl! I remember Paula taping a performance that was shown on Idol early on last year so I really don't understand Ryan hyping her first big performance on Idol, especially when this one was clearly taped too. You could tell. The judges and contestants were not around and they pulled Paula from the table just to create the illusion it was live. With all the props and other junk she used on stage, there was no room for the contestants on stage anyway so it was pretty obvious. Maybe it was all that pyro and shit that caused all the accidents yesterday. Kudos to Paula walking down that big staircase in those heels. That had to be terrifying! The performance wasn't bad. It was her typical sort of stuff. I did like the poster of Simon vs Paula being torn up and liked the end of it with the reporters asking her about all the scandals like her leaving and all and all she says is "She is here for the music." Between that and her interview right now with Ryan, it makes it sound like she is trying to put the kibosh on all the rumors for now. It did sound like Ryan was trying to ask her about her staying without actually asking her though. I am shocked it's taken her this long to perform on Idol because she's always seemed happy. I do have to admit there are hints of her wanting to leave and just focus on music but I just can't see her leaving a sure thing. Gwen Stefani is so much better with No Doubt IMO. I've always loved them. Pretty cool performance, especially Gwen's awkward body movements on the landing behind the judge's. This performance seems taped too, although Ryan alluded to this week's accident and the audience seems to be the same as earlier tonight. Hmm..but the judges are gone and the contestants are gone. Who knows. The last few weeks of live performances has been so much better then the taped stuff. i hope next year they try their best to avoid it because live is so much better. I understand it's tough with scheduling and it seems like the performers tonight are using alot of props and stuff but it can be worked out. So, No Doubt is touring without an album but Gwen says this will buildup to an album? Talk about backwards LOL. I know she was busy but they should've just delayed the tour until next summer and worked on the album so they would have new stuff. Sure, it puts them back in the spotlight and could help the album alot but putting out an album ahead usually is guaranteed the way to go, especially when you are trying to resurrect a band or career. It's not like there was a loud uproar for Gwen and No Doubt to reunite so they could've worked on the album and put things off. Whatever...now we can get to some results and Daughtry. The best parts are still left to come. The show has done good with time tonight despite all the stuff going on tonight. |
