I did hear hoarseness in Danny's voice too. The judges noted it but thought it made the performance better LOL. Even the issues Danny has are praised. |

Yep Kris gets bashed because he didn't "make it his own". Yet let's go back to last week because I don't any of them have ever heard Robert Plant sing his lead vocals on "Who Lotta Love". That was basically the same version as the original. Just the double standards again. I liked Kris. But I don't think anything he does will get him that A for effort. |

My thoughts exactly.... I liked it too and you can tell both Danny and Kris's voices are worn out due to all the singing they did during the hometown stuff. Of course Danny gets a better song to disguise the voice issues. |

Woah....Simon calling Kara out! Honestly, Simon is wrong. Why should Kara and Randy have to tell Kris how to do the song? That was stupid. Kris did what he wanted to do. Since when do the judges ever work out the arrangment? Simon was all wrong on that. I was glad Kara put her hands over his mouth. Hilarious! I think you can tell the judges are ok with each other now because a few weeks ago Kara would've gotten upset and you would not see her putting her hands over Simon's mouth like that. I thought Kris was good but not great. Kara was right. That was too close to the original and I'm shocked because Kris always does something different. I expected him to use the guitar or to do something else. The piano just sets it up to be too copy-cat like. It wasn't bad. In fact, I felt it was just as good as the original, even with the bad note, which Paula pointed out rightfully. It was not as bad as Simon said. It was a good song choice on Kara and Randy's part. I just expected more. They aren't throwing him under the bus but they are basically giving him the "it's great your here" and "you should be proud" junk. You can tell they are being nice just so they don't piss off Kris's fans so they don't beat out Danny's. |

Good point. The story of the past few seasons, sadly. |

Kris was good, but not excellent.....I liked the banter between Kara and Simon, though. :P And Adam is AMAZING, as usual!!!! |

I wish Adam would have kept the tone he started the song with even when it sped up. Not every song has to have that high pitch to it. I really like him when he isn't "the rocker". I think he was the best of the three but I just didn't like the second half of the song. I think he could have picked up the beat of the song without raising the octave of his voice that much to require a scream. Simon does usually do the best with picking songs. He always challenges the contestant. He did it last year with Cook as well. Edited by cubsgirl, May 12 2009, 07:30 PM.

I would like to like Adam, because he seems genuinely sweet and he is clearly talented. I wouldn't ever buy his music, but I find him to be a charming and gifted young man. HOWEVER, the pimping absolutely makes me insane. Insane. Definitely voting for Kris. |

I was liking Adam's performance until the screaming began, as cubsgirl mentioned if he had kept the pitch he started out with I would have liked it a lot better. |

I think Adam was the best, but I think he could have come out there and forgot every word and he would have gotten great comments. But I too am bothered by the pimping. He always gets the special lighting and stuff. It is getting really old. |

LOL to Simon making himself even more important then he really is. So he had to call Bono for permission. The show always has to do that kind of stuff. Simon only had to do it because he chose it for Adam. I can see why he picked it. It's a great song and Adam could have a moment here. And...right on cue... ADAM IS HAVING A MOMENT! That was very, very good. I got exactly what I was expecting from him and more. I see Randy and Simon are back to the same shit they did last year on top 3 week....nitpicking and bashing each other's contestant that is singing whatever song they each chose. Childish. LOL to Kara talking in a British accent and telling Simon that Adam proved her point. Simon didn't know what to say. This is what I expected from Kara all season. I wanted her to get snarky with Simon. You can tell she is comfortable now. It was funny when Adam told Paula to hit Simon again for gloating. I guess Simon did help Adam as they both acknowledged it but I've heard of the judges helping out on arrangements before. I don't think Adam would need much help anyway but maybe Simon just wanted to make sure the song was handled in a classy way since Adam did butcher "Ring of Fire" earlier this season. Adam seems so at peace. He's just having fun. He doesn't look worried at all and the judges are right. If he is not around next week, that would be them most shocking upset ever. Adam looks different tonight. I don't think he is wearing as much makeup as he usually does. Oh, and one more thing, I liked Simon's little jab at "So You Think You Can Dance" while commenting on Danny's performance. While it is Idol's spinoff, I'm sure Simon and Nigel Lythogoe, who is a judge on SYTYCD and used to be a producer on Idol, still talk and I'm sure it was playful. Pretty funny. |

I agree. Simon is annoying me this year but he picks the best songs. I wouldn't blame Adam for the lighting. He doesn't control that. He just controls the songs and what he does on stage. The production team then works off that. He doesn't control the pimping either. The only time the pimping bothers me is when the contestant completely sucks and still gets praised, examples being Archie from last year and Danny from this year. I was shocked to see Carrie. That was a nice surprise. I think Idol Gives Back returns next year. They said every other year they would do it now. I'm shocked they bothered to mention it this year. It was nice to hear about but they should've did it tomorrow night. They would've had time even with everything going on. They just wasted time. I guess I shouldn't be surprised as the show was running well ahead of schedule so they just have to waste time so it goes overtime LOL. LMAO to Ryan mentioning the "Battle of the Egos" with the judge's choices. Edited by PhoenixRising05, May 12 2009, 07:41 PM.

Exactly! None of that is Adam's doing or fault. I don't get why people hold that against him. |

I know what I said came off wrong. I don't actually blame Adam for it. I know it is all TPTB making these decisions and not Adam. That is why I can enjoy him at times because I know this pimping isn't him. |

I didn't say it was fair to hold those things against Adam--but that's the way it works. Kobe Bryant and LeBron James are two of the very best basketball players ever and I still hate it when the commentators go on and on and on about how marvelously incredible they are. I would prefer to let the game--and in this case, the music--speak for itself. I don't mind the judges saying a good performance was good. I mind them acting like nobody else has ever been this incredible or could ever be. The hyperbole irritates me and, admittedly unfairly, it can create a backlash against the pimpee. |

Ugh. So they have to go and waste more time doing one of those stupid Coca Cola interview segments with Gokey of all people? Ugh. Then I have to listen to him explain his selection process. I'm sufficiently annoyed. The sad part is I loved the song he sang and he ruined the first half of it despite it being a decent song choice for him. That breathing problem he has showed up again (Archie had the same problem at times last year). The singing was way too nasally. He has like no lower register and, as usual, the upper register saved him again. That must be the "he brought it to the church" part alluded to in the spoilers. Once he got to go high with it, he did much better but then he botched the end a little. So, as usual, very much hit or miss. Oh, God...shutup Randy. Mad vocals, my ass! Now Kara is on the bandwagon. I've been waiting for it all night and here it is. Vocal master class?! My God... Ryan asked if he earned it...not to me he didn't. Then we have to listen to him explain his mindset today and how he just had to buckle down and pick a song and not worry about opinions, etc. Guess he is trying to block out the negative press last week. Why are they letting him talk so much now the past few weeks? Ugh. Then they stick Kris right after him so he will be forgotten. I hate this show tonight. |
