Supposedly Diana was leading in the votes for many weeks in the season she was second in the competition, while Fantasia hit the seal. Taylor was the runaway favorite, which upset the producers. They were hoping for Chris to beat him in the end. So neither of them being in the finals was a surprise. Blake getting into the finals was good for Jordin as it would have been a lot harder for her to beat Melinda. |

Agreed. I think Danny Gokey said it best. The show knows who will sell. I don't mind a little pimping and manipulation. Bias will always come into play. The show and judge's will always have their favorites. It was bad last year but this year it did get out of hand and I think that is why there is such a backlash. I think alot has to do with Nigel Lythgoe no longer being a producer with the show. The first year without him and the pimping and manipulation reaches all time highs and the show develops major time issues. I think they should fire whoever replaced him and bring him back because he clearly does a better job controlling things and keeping the pimping and manipulation to a minimum or makes it at least a little subtle and not so blatant. I just want the show to return to what it was before last year. You always knew they had their faves but they gave others a chance too. They would bash even their favorites and gave credit where it was due. They allowed others to build momentum and that allowed for more competition depth and is what provided a little more in the way of shocking eliminations during the course of the season because it wasn't just the judge's favorites who were in contention for the title. Others were too because the show built up their momentum. Therefore, the season as a whole was more entertaining. It seems like the surprise eliminations are all but gone now. Sure, you had Micheal Johns last year but, other then that, the only surprises tend to come during the top 3 week since Daughtry's elimination (Melinda in season 6 and Danny in season 8). If they just lay off the heavy pimping and limit it and the manipulation, they can get the show back in form and make it more entertaining all season rather then having the beginning and end of the season be the best parts while the middle suffers a bit. On another note, Justin Guarini does look awful. He is not aging well at all. I think he is getting married soon too. |

Not surprised about Diana (season 3 was a clusterfuck season full of up and down voting) but I don't recall Taylor being a runaway favorite. Chris and Katherine, who were both the most marketable, seemed like the favorites. Katherine hit a few rough patches and Elliot got some momentum so I think many felt more and more like she would not make it but she and Chris got the most attention early on along with Ace Young and Pickler so you could tell they liked those two. Randy and Paula liked Taylor but Simon didn't and I don't think the show did either. I don't recall him performing last all that much and they never really built him up a whole lot. He did most of it on his own with his "Soul Patrol" stuff. Seasons 3 and 5 were just weird seasons. They were both trainwrecks. They felt more personality-driven then talent driven and the wrong people went home several times. They were just a mess but the one thing I liked about them was it was hard to get a read on who the judges favored at certain times. Sure, Fantasia in season 3 and Chris in season 5 were heavily favored but there were many contenders built up like Diana and LaToya (who got just as much pimping as Fantastia) in season 3 and Katherine, Elliot, and Ace and Pickler (moreso early on for both of them). That is what the show needs to get back too. You can't just limit all the attention and pimping to two people. You have to build up momentum for others so the season is kept wide open and interest will be maintained. You need to give others a chance. Hopefully, they get back to that. Your right too about Blake helping Jordin (he made that a blowout victory for her) but I still think she would've won. She was younger and I think the show would've pimped her up a little more in the finale because I think they knew Melinda would not be HUGE. She would be successful but not as huge as Jordin at her age could be because she was more marketable and more mainstream. Melinda was great but she was a little more mature and it would be hard to make her commercial. She still should've been there. I would've loved to see Melinda and Jordin battle each other, especially since they were such close friends and I loved them both. |

Kenny, this season Kris managed to crack the top two the judges were pushing on us...so this year is actually BETTER than others in that respect. |

LoL, here's a picture of some of the Top 13 rehearsing a performance for this week's finale. They look like they're having, um... fun. Posted Image Also, do you remember Ricky Braddy, Brent Keith and Alex Wagner Trugman? They all made the Top 36 this year, but none of then made the Top 13. Anyway, they've been "tweeting" some pretty interesting stuff lately. Sounds like they're all pretty jealous of Adam, LoL. Got tickets for Wicked on Wednesday. I’m told this might change my career goals. We’ll see 3:05 PM May 11th from web rickybraddy @rickybraddy it’ll make you want to be a witch. Or Adam lambert. 3:17 PM May 11th from TwitterFon in reply to rickybraddy alexWTrugs @alexWTrugs Which would you prefer? 3:24 PM May 11th from TwitterFon in reply to alexWTrugs brentkeith @brentkeith well, the life of a witch feels too full of drama and makeup and high pitched shrieking. So let’s say… Um… Neither. A wizard 4:25 PM May 11th from TwitterFon in reply to brentkeith alexWTrugs |

^That picture of the top 13 rehearsing is funny LOL. I remember that Brent Keith guy. He was an asshole. The guy was so full of himself and incredibly boring to boot! That Alex kid was strange. I remember him making some sort of grunt during his performance. He annoyed me. Ricky Braddy was awesome though. He should've made the top 13. He had a great voice and major potential. |

^Thanks, Angie, That was cool! They all seem to be close knit there. Then again, Kris and Adam are not there so who knows LOL. Danny actually was likable again in that video. I wonder if he just has difficulty adapting to being in the public eye like he is. Loved Alison mocking his dancing again. How cute was she hiding from the camera and then popping up and making that face? LOL. Megan is a nut. I like Alexis but she could've at least turned around for the camera instead of just dancing and looking at herself in the mirror. Poor Jasmine and Jorge seem like an afterthought even in this video. They all seemed to have great personalities in this video. Just seeing Lil sitting there eating Cheetos was funny. Micheal really does have a cool personality. It was cool for him to give his fans an inside look like this during what seems like a break from rehearsal. |

Side Dish: 'American Idol's' Adam Lambert goes to Outback with his 'boyfriend' "American Idol" finalist Adam Lambert wasn't coy about his love life when he and other "AI" contestants got together the other night at Burbank's Outback Steakhouse. Lambert called the dude with him "my boyfriend," says a spy. Also looking cozy at the dinner: Anoop Desai and Megan Joy Corkrey, who sources say are an item. http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2009/05/17/2009-05-17_side_dish_american_idols_adam_lambert_goes_to_outback_with_his_boyfriend.html |

^Wow...talk about love connections LOL. I would've never expected Anoop and Megan. She's crazy and a single mother and he's just...I guess a normal college student. Good for them! His college friends must be impressed LOL. I figured Adam would start to hide things a little less now. He has to be comfortable with the spotlight now and there is no use hiding who he is when everyone pretty much knows so I guess he figures why bother anymore. I'm shocked they went to an Outback. I love them, don't get me wrong, but I expected them to go to someplace a little more fancy out in LA LOL. Then again, if they were paying their own bill and wasn't some Idol sponsored thing, I guess that makes sense. Edited by PhoenixRising05, May 18 2009, 02:19 AM.

Adam is the sort of artist that has always had a place in music and yet nobody is filling that void at the moment. The very idea that nobody is doing this type of glam(ish) rock is exactly what makes him and his style of music marketable. That said, I've always felt that Adam would actually be better off if he didn't win Idol. I think he'll be more successful without the win than he would with it. I like Kris and am glad he's in the final and not Gokey. Though I LOVED Danny's voice in the early episodes, he never really lived up to his hype when the competition kicked in. When Kris nailed something, it was always one of the top performances of that night. When Danny hit it, it never quite made it out of the ballpark. It was like an in the park homerun. And I DEFINITELY think Kris's rendition of 'Heartless' was above and beyond anything Danny did in F3. If he can pull something on that level off again tomorrow night, I say Allen for the win!
I actually think this one could be quite close but word on the Danny sentiments. |

Rumors are swirling that the title of the coronation song written by Kara is "This Is How I Wanna Be." If you do a Google search of that song title and Kara's name, it brings you to this... This Is How I Wanna Be by Kristine Blond (3:42) Music By - Joe Belmaati , Kara DioGuardi , Mich Hedin Hanse Genre: Electronic, Pop Style: Europop, Euro House Kris isn't exactly what I would call a "Europop" artist, LoL. |

Carly Smithson tweeted that she's rehearsing for some sort of finale appearance. At this point, I'm guessing the show will run over by a good hour. Then again, we won't have Kara's yapping to soak up precious minutes, so maybe it'll end on time for once. *SHOCK* |

SFGate Lambert-Allen matchup may be a wacky 'Idol' finale The final "American Idol" performance episode could be the weirdest concert ever televised. In one corner, there's over-the-top Adam Lambert, the dominating presence who transformed Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" into a sitar-infused spectacle and tackled "Whole Lotta Love," the first-ever Led Zeppelin tune performed on Fox's "Idol." From the outset, he's been the ambiguous rocker next door, most comfortable — but not scary — in eyeliner and studded leather. Then, there's Kris Allen, always at home in jeans with his guitar. The only fashion risk he's taken is that smidge of blue nail polish spotted on his thumb during a visit home to Conway, Ark. Allen garnered the most praise with his daring song choices, like singing "Falling Slowing" from indie musical "Once" and reinventing Kanye West's robotic "Heartless" as a wistful singer-songwriter joint. "Kris' appeal is that he has an honesty and a sincerity when he performs, and that he has never tried to change who he is," said judge Kara DioGuardi. "He's like a steady ship in the night. He never changes his clothes because everybody else around him is. He never does a song in a way that is sort of overcooked because everyone else around him is." The mixture of Allen's subtly and Lambert's showiness — only to be broken up with a performance by fourth-season champ Carrie Underwood — will likely make for a kookier-than-usual show Tuesday, especially considering that Allen's slot in the final two has been perceived as a come-from-behind victory for the 23-year-old college student. "It's going to be a strange and interesting juxtaposition on Tuesday night," said Michael Slezak, who blogs about "Idol" for Entertainment Weekly magazine's Web site. "Kris and Adam are so different. Calling them apples and oranges doesn't go far enough. They're almost from different planets. It's like comparing a root vegetable to a sea creature." If there's anything they have in common, it's consistency. The only time the men were in the show's dreaded group of bottom-three vote-getters was after their Rat Pack-themed performances, yet Lambert has long been considered the front-runner. After host Ryan Seacrest revealed last week that only 1 million votes separated Allen from the 27-year-old theater actor, the competition could be closer than expected. "These guys have been doing a great job already, so I don't have much to tell them except to be true to themselves and really engage the home viewers through the cameras," advises sixth season runner-up Blake Lewis. "As far as finale week goes, they just need to stay focused and try to balance themselves through the chaos. It's really stressful." The winner's fate may lie in the dialing fingers of the fans who had been supporting Milwaukee church music director Danny Gokey — and keeping him out of the bottom three until his dismissal last week. DioGuardi believes that Tuesday's episode "will be about forming a connection with the audience, and it's really about who's gonna get those Danny votes." Still, most imagine the "Idol" title is Lambert's for the taking. "I think this is going to be a walk in the park for Adam," said Rickey Yaneza, who blogs about "Idol" at Rickey.org. "Judging from the traffic on my site, everyone is more interested in Adam. Kris simply can't compete with Adam's vocal calisthenics. Kris just has to be himself. Wow. That sounds like something Paula Abdul would say, doesn't it?" |
