Overrated? Hardly. I'll give you boring at times. I can see that judgement, even though I love Kris. Kris and Adam were two very different people. It's apples and oranges. Kris blew Adam out of the water with the votes. Simple as that. I don't care who voted or why, but he won, it's over. If he shocks us and does really well, props. If not, he doesn't. I think it will be a happy medium. Kris, as much as I love him, probably won't be as big as Kelly, Carrie or David, but I don't think he'll fade into oblivion. And everyone's saying this is Ruben/Clay all over again? Well ... Ruben disappeared and Clay had his 15 minutes only to do what now ... that's right Broadway. If Adam is Clay, and Kris is Ruben, then ... neither Kris or Adam will do well! |

But everyone acts like Adam was this amazing performer, which he was, a performer. Truly and honestly I don't think his voice was THAT great, he was good yes, but he wasn't as great as everyone made him out to be. The guy can sing, there's no doubt about that, but he ALWAYS seemed to scream, yell and shriek in all of his songs and it was obnoxious. I can recall maybe one song that he was more mellowed out while performing and he didn't really stand out to me then. I don't even remember which song it was, which only proves my point. If I had actually voted I definitely would have voted for Kris because he's the kind of music I like. I like the Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz sound. |

Adam has more control in his voice than most professionals and a better voice than anyone on this show ever. This is coming from someone who HATED him in the beginning. He really did get the screaming under control as the season progressed. By mid-season, he was flawless. And yes, I do think Kris will fade into oblivion. I don't even feel like he WANTS it. He's just kind of there because he makes teen girls want to bouncey bouncey. And yes, I would say he is overrated. The judges have been obsessed with him all season. I don't see how they tried to taint this in Adam's favor. Kris got stunning reviews EVERY week - and frankly, I don't get it! Edited by King, May 21 2009, 09:05 AM.

Well, when you have people crying and saying Adam was robbed. You have judges pimping Adam from day one, how is Kris supposed to feel? The way everyone is talking they probably make him feel crappy that he won. What would you do? I don't really feel like debating this. Adam is a one-note wonder and maybe Kris will fade into oblivion. I don't really care. Either of them winning would of made me happy and we'll just have to wait and see. You can't really judge now what will happen a year from now. Stranger things have happened, Mike. But, whatever. |

The judges have been pimping Kris too. I don't recall them ever nailing him except for Tuesday night when Simon said he didn't think he deserved it over Danny - which he took back two seconds later. Kris fans are creating this weird situation in their head where Kris has been slammed all season, and it's not true at all. |

He wasn't slammed but he was never given proper credit. Simon never liked him, except once or twice. Paula, I don't even remember that bitch's criticsm. Kara and Randy were the only two to give Kris credit. Kris and Allison were regularly dissed, maybe not criticized, but never given proper credit. Kris was HARDLY pimped. Are you serious Mike? LoL! |

Not as much as Danny and Adam, but compared to Allison, Lil, Anoop, and Matt....yes, very serious. |

Well, I guess we were watching two different shows and will have to agree to disagree. |

Yes, I guess so. I have a bad memory, but I don't ever recall Kris getting slammed. I remember him getting rave reviews. There was the fact that Danny and Adam were called the final two early on by that dumb whore, Paula. Again, I am just going to say that Adam deserved it, and there is no more proof needed than that coming out of Kris' mouth seconds after winning. |

I readily admit to not watching this whole season, though when I did tune in it was Kris that intrigued me every time. But I don't think the issue is that he was slammed so much as was that he was marginalized. The point is that he wasn't a Chosen One, like Danny or Adam, and I recall him getting the backhanded type of, "well, that was ok/good but it wasn't enough to win," whereas normally Danny and Adam, from what I saw, were praised to the skies. |

Well, if people are going to complain about not getting credit from Simon...welcome to American Idol! LOL. I don't know what show you guys have been watching for eight years, but he RARELY gives anyone any credit or the credit they deserve. Edited by King, May 21 2009, 09:47 AM.

I don't know if you were responding to me specifically, but I didn't single out Simon. I think ALL the judges gave Adam and Danny more praise than they deserved--which is different than saying they slammed Kris. The point is that they--not just Simon--praise their favorites lavishly and give backhanded compliments to the the non-chosen ones. I haven't watched every AI season, but my favorites have never been liked by Simon so this isn't a new experience for me at all. I know what Simon is and how he acts so his comments are expected at this point. I vote for people I like, period. If they move me, like Kris did, I get motivated to pick up the phone and vote. If they don't, then I don't. It's that simple. |

LOL. It's just how I feel! Kris was the underdog, but not by the proportions you guys are making him out to be. It's not like last year when David Cook got UNFAIRLY nailed on FINALE night. Kris got rave reviews last night, and the last five or six weeks except rock week from what I can recall. They loved him on Michael Jackson Week. They loved him in the semi-finals. |

I was kind of responding to your post and Shawn's post from a few posts ago simultaneously. LOL. I want to keep debating but I have to go to work! LOL. Yes, they praise their favorites. I rarely agree with them. RARELY. But that is their job...to judge. |

Compared to Anoop and Matt, maybe. I don't agree that he was pimped more than Lil and Allison though. No way! LoL Regarding Lil, she was given pass after pass in the beginning. She gave crappy performances, but because they were amazed with her in Hollywood, they kept giving her feedback that wasn't as negative as it should've been. Plus, she left earlier in the competition so the only reason Kris might've gotten equal attention was because he lasted longer and there were less people to focus on. Compared to Adam though, everyone was ignored. They wanted a Danny/Adam finale from the start and it was obvious. They were doing everything in their power to make that happen, including giving unfair feedback to others (like Kris) who gave better performances. Look no further than Simon giving Danny all the credit in the duet with Kris, even though he sang it terribly and sang the wrong words TWICE. |

LOL . . . I had to go to a pretrial conference so I couldn't keep going either! I agree it's the judge's job to judge, but they have their biases just like everyone else. They're not neutral robots who are listening only for who's perfectly in tune, etc. (And frankly, I imagine every year there are people who could just as easily be up on that stage and who are excellent technical singers but who didn't look pretty/hot enough, didn't have an interesting backstory, whatever, so they got passed over for more "interesting" contestants.) My "job" as an AI viewer is to listen, decide who I think is the most appealing to me, then vote for him or her. The question Simon asks himself is, "who can I make the most money off of?" The question I ask myself is, "Whose music would I buy?" In this season, it was Kris. As for whether Kris will be a giant star, I doubt it. But so what? If he finds a niche doing what he does well good for him. I think they'll both be fine. Or, they could both flame out. Or, one could do really well and the other fade away into obscurity. Who knows? It will take some years before we'll know for sure who's right. And if it's me who's wrong, somehow I'll pick up the shattered pieces of my life and move on, lol. Entertainment Weekly Kris Allen talks Queen, Adam Lambert, and, oh yeah, winning 'American Idol' Posted Image Kris Allen may have looked bone tired at the end of his nearly year-long marathon to take the American Idol crown, but he was nothing but chatty when EW spoke with the champeen one-on-one in the post-finale "Winner's Walk." With his mother and wife patiently waiting on a nearby bench, Allen gamely talked about why he's still surprised he's done as well as he has on the show, when he and Adam Lambert learned they would be rocking out with Queen, how he formed his lasting bond with the glam rocker, and which Oscar winners nearly brought him to tears. You seemed really surprised up there when Ryan announced you won. Always. [Smiles] I'm always surprised, man. For me, making it through each week -- everyone is so talented, and, I don't know, to make it through each week is crazy. People kept referring to you as the dark horse. When you got to the Top 36, we'd barely seen you. Did it add any pressure, or make it easier, being the perpetual underdog? For me, it was kinda nice. That's kinda who I am, and having the spotlight on me would've been weird. That's me. I'm that laid back guy. I stick my head behind everyone else and every once and a while peek out and say, "Hello!" [Chuckles] So you've just won American Idol. You've obviously got tremendous musical talent. You know what kind of artist you want to be. You've got a beautiful wife. You're very good looking. You've got an amazingly supportive family. From all I can tell, you're a really nice guy. I just gotta know, what is wrong with you? [Laughs] Um, I am the biggest procrastinator in the world. Yeah. That, and I'm not the cleanest person in the world. That's just terrible. I know, right? It's unforgivable. Maybe there's other stuff, but I won't say anything. [Grins] What was it like singing with Keith Urban tonight? I got to meet him yesterday for the first time. Great, great guy. It's really nice to meet someone like that who's a huge, huge star, but really down to Earth. He just embraced me and was just like, "Let's just have fun." And that's what we did. We went out there and had fun. And Queen? Oh my gosh. We found out last night that we were going to be singing with Queen. Brian May walks in and my jaw just dropped. I felt like such a frickin' fan. I was just like [in a nasally voice] "Hey, Brian May, can I get your autograph?" So he was like, "Yeah, man, sure." He was such a really, really nice guy. To do that duet with Adam, it just felt like such a celebration. To do it with Queen as well? Whoa. Oh my gosh. Your friendship with Adam has been really great to watch over the course of the season. On paper, you don't necessarily have a lot in common. How did you guys find that common ground? For me, I feel like I relate to a lot of people. And we got to be roommates. It was just like this closeness, you know? I don't know what happened. I think we just felt each other's energy, and it was nice. It just became this really good friendship. Yeah, I adore the guy. I think he's a really great guy. I'm proud of him. Finally, what was one of the best behind-the-scenes highlights for you during the season? You know, the coolest thing was talking to some of the mentors, like, off camera. They would whisper in your ear nice things, like, "Dude, you're awesome, man." Hearing that stuff from, like, Smokey Robinson or Jamie Foxx or Quentin Tarantino or Randy Travis, any one of them -- it's just, like, mind-boggling, you know? I got a gift from [Once stars and songwriters] Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova after I sang "Falling Slowly" [from the film]. They were just like, "Thank you so much. You were great." Like, it almost brought me to tears. They gave me this vinyl of the [Once] album, and they signed it, and wrote this letter to me. That meant so much. |
