Holy delayed reaction novel, Phoenix! LoL!
Not my fault LOL.

I told you all I would be gone a week. This would've been posted Wednesday night if not for my evil cable company  .

Oh, and another thing. While down in Florida, I visited the American Idol Experience attraction and it was AWESOME!! It looked like the real show. They did Ryan's "This is American Idol" intro and everything. We had a female version of Ryan Seacrest who was actually a better host then him. It was great. Carrie Underwood does this video thing to help boost the contestant's confidence. The judges are much better then on the real show too. They actually offered decent insight. The guy playing Randy's role was fantastic. He didn't repeat everything over and over. He actually made intelligent points. The judge playing Paula's role really knew how to play Paula but she offered good commentary too. The guy playing Simon's role was actually named Simon and was like classic Simon being all brutal. For example, to this 14 year old girl he told her "It's a good thing your singing about faith because you will need all the prayers in the world to be voted through."

The funniest part was they did the over the top pimping there too and people reacted against it too! There was just woman who lived in American but was of Irish descent who was very good and she had an interesting backstory helping getting poor people off the street overseas. They hyped that up and she was the only one to get a intro video and everything. She had the biggest crowd reaction and judge's reaction and everyone felt she would win. The third contestant was pretty good but did not pick a good song to showcase herself. She had a large crowd reaction too and fairly good judge's reaction but you could tell she felt she would lose and she ended up winning! The friend I went on vacation with placed a vote for her because he felt bad for her and I think others did too. Ir was so funny considering everything going on LOL.

WHOO! Just got through Phoenix's updates. Glad to see you are back.

Agreed with most of your points, but wanted to add one more thing. I think Kris will have moderate success as a performer. But towards the end and after I got the vibe he might find even more success behind the scenes. He seems to have a knack for picking and arranging songs (both Allison and Adam said they got ideas from him or bounced off ideas with him). Kris is a musician and needed idol to give him that bump to show his talent. I could see Kris being like Richard Marx. He had his big hits in the late 80's/early 90's. Now he is a songwriter/producer/arranger behind the scenes and has made a solid career doing that. Definitely too early to say where Kris is going to end up in the Idol spectrum of success. I think in the long run he is going to be right in the middle.

That is a very good point. I never even thought of that. I remember thinking the same thing about Cook but given he was more of a rock-style singer, I figured he would never need to resort to that. If Kris ends up not doing well enough to get by on singing (or if Idol and the execs screw him over, which could happen a la Taylor Hicks), then he very well could find a promising career behind the scenes. The guy has a good understanding of music and arrangements, on par or perhaps better then Cook did. That is actually a viable option for him to explore at some point, if need be. I hope he never had to resort to that and only has to use that talent on his own albums but, if he has to, he has to I guess. I think he will wind up somewhere in the middle too but who knows. He could end up surprising everyone too or just flopping completely. His success is very much hard to predict and until his album comes out we have no idea how well he will do. He has to be the first Idol winner to have so much unpredictability to him in terms of how well he will do. Normally, we can at least say that the winner will find a niche and find some success, even if it's minimal. It's not so certain with Kris so I guess we'll see.

Allison Iraheta Signs a Record Deal

After making it to the top 4 of American Idol, Allison Iraheta has signed a record deal with 19 Recordings and Jive Records.

“I think I’m still in shock that this is happening,” Iraheta, now 17, who is the show’s youngest contestant to make the top 12, said in a statement. “Getting to record my first album and this whole awesome experience is a dream come true!”

Idol’s creator and executive producer, Simon Fuller, said, “Allison is an incredible young singer. She is without a doubt one of the best teenage singers American Idol has ever discovered. We all watched Allison grow in confidence and stature as she performed each week on the show and we can only imagine how far this special girl can continue to blossom in the years ahead.”

Barry Weiss, the CEO of RCA/Jive label group also commented on Iraheta, who is the daughter of Salvadoran immigrants and lives in Downey, Calif. “Her bluesy, powerful voice, spunky attitude, and edgy star power immediately captivated us and it didn’t matter where she ranked on Idol,” he said in the statement, “we knew we wanted her to join our amazing crop of young talent at Jive.”

Iraheta will join American Idol winner Kris Allen, runner-up Adam Lambert — who both also announced record deals this week — and the rest of the show’s finalists on the Idols Live Tour, which kicks off July 5 in Portland, Ore.

Her debut album is expected in the fall.

Damn! Kris, Adam and Alison all releasing CD's in the fall.

Poor Danny Gokey, finishes third and we've heard nothing about a deal for him yet.

It seems like being the winner of Idol is no longer a big deal. If you make the Top 10 and your good you have a very god chance of getting a record deal.

Off topic, kind of, but there was a little blurb with Kellie Pickler in TV Guide in which she said that Idol told her to play the small down dumb blonde and she's not really like that in real life. "They wanted us all to play a part because it's a TV show. But I can't complain, it is what is is"

I haven't seen any evidence that Kellie isn't like that in real life. She always seems so ditzy!

I agree. I doubt she was playing a part. I love Kellie but sounds like a state of denial on her part LOL.

Glad Alison got signed to a deal. I'm still pissed Gokey stayed over her. It's great how the Three Musketeers (Kris, Adam, and Alison) all got signed to the same label. They are all three so close. Good for them.

As for Danny, whatever LOL. He deserves a deal though.

This really was the most talented top 5 so to see 3 of them getting signed is no shock. I'm shocked 19 signed Alison though. I expected her to get signed but I wasn't sure how Idol felt about her. Glad they saw her talent. Just wish they supported her a bit more on the show. Maybe Adam put in a good word for her with 19. I wouldn't be surprised.

Really? I read somewhere it was 19. Granted, it wasn't on a very reliable site.

Isn't RCA and 19 linked somehow? Clive is RCA so I think they are linked in a way.

Just researched and the way I understand it is...

19 Entertainment has first dibs on signing the Idols. When they sign them, they pimp them out to other labels. Kris and Alison went to Jive and Adam went to RCA

So basically 19 makes sure they get a nice chuck of royalties by licensing them to other labels.

Ah, I see.

I knew it was all linked so, technically, they all three are under the "same tree," so to speak.

Sony BMG owns...

Arista Records
Columbia Records
Epic Records
J Records
Jive Records
RCA Victor Records
RCA Records
RCA Legacy
Zomba Records

19 Entertainment is whole different company completely. Before even going on the show the Idols sign a contract stating they will go through 19 Entertainment to get their record deals. (Fuller has to make money off them) If 19 doesn't want them (Doolittle, Bennett, Overmyer etc) they are free to sign with any label they choose.

Their orders were a bitch to produce at the CD factory where I used to work. What a bunch of picky bastards!
