This season isn't exciting me that much at all.....

It's like they went from picking people with talent last year, to this season they just fucked with everything and we ended up with these hot mess results.

Maybe they should have capped this show after last season.
I agree with you. I am still not really excited about this season. I will end up watching it out of habit and OF COURSE to chat with everyone here about it. Otherwise I am not looking to forward. Even though she is crazy, Tatiana would have at least given me some entertainment.

I agree about Alison sneaking in there. She seems like someone who's not that noticed early on but somehow gets to the end. It's usually the case with AI.

Kelly came out of nowhere in S1. I don't exactly think Ruben was the major favorite in S2 (Clay was). Fantasia and Diana were pretty close in S3. S4 was a toss up but I felt for a while it was Carrie's to lose. S5 was a hot mess. I choose to ignore it. S6, Jordin came from behind for sure and S7, I don't think David Cook was always the frontrunner.
Exactly although I remember Ruben being the favorite. I don't recall a bad thing being said about him.

This could end up being a bad year but, if so, whatever. Shows go through them. It happens. Season 3 was a mess. Season 5 was a mess. Coincidentally, I recall the focus on those years being on personality. It seems the show does this alot. It goes through periods where it focuses more on personality then singing and more on singing then personality. The years where it's been more about singing are the years I liked the best and the years that ended up with the best and most successful winners so, hopefully, they will realize that and go back to that next year. They will have to realize that if this season doesn't go so well going forward.

LoL, I've pretty much given up on expecting to enjoy this season in a legitimate way. I'm just gonna sit back and laugh at the disasters that are bound to take place after this week.

I think Tatiana is too emotionally fucked up to be on this show. I don't think she would be able to handle it. They all even made sure to say really nice things to her after they told her she didn't make it. I think she could go off the deep end real easy.
I agree. She went from being entertaining to downright disturbing. I think she really has problems and the fact that Paula and Kara tried to comfort her speaks volumes. I was glad Simon told her off a bit but I do fear what this girl may or may not do going forward.

I feel like alot of it is for show, LoL. I mean, sure, she's a little off her rocker. But more than anything, she's a fame chaser She wants fame so bad she can taste it, and she knows that the crazier she acts, the more people will talk about her. Even Paula made a comment about how Tatiana's an actress.

Lord knows she's gonna be all over the media tomorrow with people talking about her behavior in tonight's episode.

I agree Tim. This season could mirror Season 3 and 5 with being a HOT mess. LoL. Personality seems to be THE key this season for some reason. Um, this isn't America's Got Talent. It's AMERICAN IDOL. It's about SINGING.

Maybe Simon has his shows confused LOL.

It seems to be a ebb and flow. They are in a personality period right now and, if this year fails to produce good winner or ends up being a mess, they will go back to the focus being singing. It seems to go back and forth. I guess it keeps things fresh but it annoys the hell out of me. We'll see what happens.

I used to think Tatiana did what she did just to be known and for fame but I don't know. She's very emotional. She knows people on the show and off hate her. It's just getting a bit too much. She's had 3 significant changes to her personality thus far that we've seen and, for me, that just screams there is more to it then fame. I mean, her lying and pulling shit out of her ass like how she is like Jorge and all...sure. But her being a different person everytime she shows up...I don't know. She seems to be a attention-hog with issues so I guess you can go both ways with this.

Looking on the bright side, I actually AM really happy with Megan Corkrey, Anoop and Matt Giraud. They're very distinct and interesting to watch. I knew going into this episode that they were going to cut people I really liked *ahemRickyandVonahem* so I can't be too disappointed.

I think it'll be really interesting to watch Megan Corkrey from this point on.

She has such a unique, distinct voice. Some performances will be amazing and others will be complete disasters, simply because of how different her vocal style is. I'm intrigued to see what she can do in the coming weeks.

I'm still confused about next week. Kelly Clarkson and Kanye West will be on. Surely they aren't both performing. So which is the performer and which is the mentor/theme?

Well it doesn't help the way they screw with her. They always eliminate her in the most cruel ways. During Week 1, they saved her for the very end, putting her head to head with Danny Gokey. Then tonight they had her up against Megan. They never just let her stand alone and deliver the bad news that way, LoL.

I think Megan is a good singer, but she bugs me. I am not liking the ugly clothing, tattooed arm and the way she dances. I do think she is pretty though!

I was just watching the show back and I noticed they did not have a 13th stool out there, not that they would anyway to avoid killing the surprise. However, the way Simon said it and his reaction sounded like it was something that just was decided on. Even Ryan was sending Anoop off stage and Simon had to tell him to stop so he could say something to Anoop. I would love for the show to come out and address whether this was their plan or not because I don't think it was. I think they went with this because it was hard to choose and that the show had a different twist in mind a few weeks ago. We'll see. I doubt they will come out and admit if it was actually something they just came up with.

One thing is for sure. If this season from here on out continues to be a hot mess, it will be different then season 5 because season 5 did not have a wild card. The people voted all those people through so they were at fault LOL.. Season 3 had a wild card (Jennifer Hudson was one of the wild cards) and now season 8 has had it so both seasons will have both judge and people influence as far as selections so there will be shared blame LOL.

I'm pretty sure this was decided weeks ago.

Almost everyone on the AI boards had already guessed Top 13. Amello guessed it here. These things are usually predictable, LoL. Besides, I sincerely doubt that the four judges were actually able to come up with something like this over the span of a 2 1/2 minute commercial break, considering that it affects so many other things -- such as the number of weeks the show will run, etc.

^Oh, I'm sure it wasn't over the commercial break LOL. My thinking was they had it in mind and toyed with it maybe over the last week or so. I mean, looking at this last group of 12 that performed Tuesday night, it as filled with talent so I think they saw things like that and toyed with the idea. Also, the show went like 5 minutes overtime. I know this has happened before numerous times but, ever since the finale in which Jordin won, they have always had it listed when they are to go overtime because of how many who DVR'ed and taped the show missed Jordin winning because of going overtime. It just came off very sudden and unplanned to me.

I know many guessed it could happen but I don't think it was predictable. The "judges pick who goes home" theory seemed more prevalent on many of the boards I visit and many of the people I know that watch thought it could be that too. I don't know. Watching tonight back twice, it all seemed a bit too unplanned IMO. Not saying they just came up with it but I'm willing to believe Simon that they just came up with it recently.

Your probably right but something didn't ring true for me. It kind of had the feel of "Oh, let's do this." It didn't come off like they had for sure wanted to do it since the beginning IMO.

So what will they do? Have two voted off or three however it works to make it like it should be?
I like Meghan's appearance anf voice, but her quirky, jerky meaningless motions ruin all the good things....for me.

Jasmine is a cutie with real talent but destined to be one of te first eliminated along with Michael Sarver.

Matt wasn't my favorite, but he is good.

This will be a pretty interesting season to watch. I'm still betting (figuratively speaking) on Lil though.

Why in the hell the judges brought back Tatiana and didn't bring back Felicia Barton is beyond me? Tatiana needs pyschological help. She's fairly talented and is cute, but damn that woman irritates the living hell out of me. I could slap the hell out of all the judges for giving her more airtime. Felicia was really good and should've been given another shot.

Glad Jasmine shined tonight and glad Matt made it too, sorta Anoop too. I wish Von Smith hadn't got so nervous, I really liked him.

My favorites are Adam, Alexis, Lil, Matt, Jasmine & Kris. I think with the right song Megan would be very good. I do like Danny and Allison too. I wish Jorge and Michael hadn't made it and I look for them to be the first 2 out, with maybe Anoop next and if Megan doesn't pick the right songs, then her.

VoteForTheWorst

Because the producers did not put Tatiana through as a Wild Card, we've decided to spoil some of the secrets of the upcoming season to piss them off. The producers want to make sure this information is not leaked to the media. Oops!

One of our always reliable sources tells us that three of the theme weeks currently being planned are Michael Jackson week, Motown week, and Grand Ole Opry week. The Grand Ole Opry week includes only artists that are a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Want to know who those artists are? Well we have the initial list of songs that the Idols were given today to pick from. In case you didn't know, most weeks the Idols are given a list of songs to choose from. The list is expected to expand slightly in the future, but never before have you been able to see the songs the contestants are chosing from... until now.

Alan Jackson - Don't Rock the Jukebox
Alan Jackson - Summertime Blues
Alan Jackson - Chattahoochee
Alison Krauss - When You Say Nothing At All
Alison Krauss - Baby Now That I've Found You
Barbara Mandrell - If Loving You Is Wrong I Don't Want to Be Right
Brad Paisley - Celebrity
Brad Paisley - Mud on the Tires
Brad Paisley - When I Get Where I'm Going
Carrie Underwood - Jesus Take the Wheel
Carrie Underwood - Before He Cheats
Carrie Underwood - Wasted
Carrie Underwood - So Small
Carrie Underwood - All-American Girl
Carrie Underwood - Last Name
Diamond Rio - Beautiful Mess

Dierks Bentley - Come A Little Closer
Dierks Bentley - Every Mile a Memory
Dierks Bentley - Feel That Fire
Dolly Parton - Jolene

Dolly Parton - 9 to 5

Josh Turner - Firecracker
Lorrie Morgan - Watch Me
Martina McBride - Wild Angels
Martina McBride - A Broken Wing
Martina McBride - Anyway
Pam Tillis - Cleopatra, Queen of Denial
Pam Tillis - Maybe It Was Memphis
Patsy Cline - Walkin' After Midnight
Patsy Cline - I Fall to Pieces
Patsy Cline - Crazy
Patty Loveless - Blame On Your Heart
Randy Travis - Forever And Ever Amen
Reba McEntire - Fancy
Reba McEntire - Why Haven't I Heard From You
Ronnie Milsap - It Was Almost Like a Song
Tammy Wynette - Stand By Your Man
Terri Clark - Poor Poor Pitiful Me

Travis Tritt - I'm Gonna Be Somebody
Travis Tritt - T-R-O-U-B-L-E

Trisha Yearwood - She's In Love With The Boy
Trisha Yearwood - Walkaway Joe
Trisha Yearwood - How Do I Live

---------------------------------------------------

How stupid. They're putting together a Michael Jackson week after specifically telling the contestants what a mistake it is to sing any of his songs.

^Wow, I didn't realize VFTW actually had access to leaked info. Hopefully, they leak some more stuff. LOL at them being pissed about Tatiana.

I do agree with you, Kenny, but they always say stuff like that. It goes back to what you said earlier. They bitch about Tatiana singing the same song she did before but Anoop does it and he's fine. If your a fave of the show or judges, then they could care less as long as you perform it at least decently. I, personally, hate when they say any song is off limits. I don't think any song should be. They always want people to take risks and that is taking a risk. Taking on Whitney or Micheal or whomever is a risk. Trying to make it your own is a risk. if it fails, it fails but the mentality that they should stay away from any song they are allowed to use on the show is dumb. I've never understood the judges saying that while also saying they want them to take risks and be challenged. More doubt standards. Ugh. I think them saying that is why you get so many of the same songs over and over again (not that I mind but still) on this show because the judges make the singers shy away from many songs.

Oh, and another thing...remember how for years we heard them say not to touch Mariah Carey songs? Well, last year they had a Mariah Carey week so the fact that they said the same about Micheal Jackson and now they are doing a theme week for him is nothing unprecedented. The person that chose Micheal Jackson was Kris and he made it through and they didn't really all out bash him. They just thought the choice of song was odd for him so it's not like what they did with Mariah Carey where for years they would tell people not to touch those songs if they didn't feel the singer couldn't handle them. I think this is a bit easier to swallow then the Mariah theme, given what they had said for years.

Actually, most of those themes sound interesting and relevant. That was one change I was a proponent of. Making the themes relevant. Last year they were too old-fashioned. They also needed to be more broader like they were in past seasons and they seem to be. Motown is week is one they always used to do. Good to see it back. The Grand Ole Opry week (or Country week) looks good. I like that song list. Maybe they bring Carrie Underwood back for that? That would be cool. I would like to see former winners and contestants as mentors. I wish we had song lists for all the themes. It would be fun to pick songs that we think each singer should choose. Looking at that list for that particular theme, I don't know. That is what is so frustrating. I feel like I know who the singers are personally but not musically and it's supposed to be the other way around on this show. Ugh. Let's focus back in music, please.

Actually, I think Alison could do well with "Before He Cheats." It's a song with edge. Alexis needs a song where she can be soulful. If Micheal is still around, he will do well with a country theme. Anoop may not though LOL. I can see Danny doing something from Garth Brooks. As they said, the list will likely expand so we shall see.

Someone made mention of Megan's dancing too and I have to agree. She reminds me of when Carrie Underwood was on Idol and she used to sway all the time because she had like no stage presence at all other then the look she had on her face when she sang. I think her presence will improve in time. God knows Carrie's did.

None of these people are country singers. I can't believe they're doing an Opry week, LoL. Anyway, assuming that next week's theme is in fact Opry, here's what I predict everyone will sing...

* Jasmine Murray - "How Do I Live" by Trisha Yearwood

* Megan Joy Corkrey - "Jolene" by Dolly Parton or "Crazy" by Patsy Cline

* Matt Giraud - "I Still Believe In You" by Vince Gill

* Anoop Desai - "Shameless" by Garth Brooks

* Alexis Grace - "9 to 5" by Dolly Parton

* Michael Sarver - "Your Man" by Josh Turner

* Danny Gokey - "When I Get Where I'm Going" by Brad Paisley (it's about Jesus) or "Tell Me I Was Dreaming" by Travis Tritt (very dead wife-ish)

* Lil Rounds - "Crazy" by Patsy Cline or "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton

* Jorge Nunez - "The Dance" by Garth Brooks

* Scott MacIntyre - "When You Say Nothing At All" by Allison Krauss

* Allison Iraheta - "Fancy" by Reba McEntire

* Adam Lambert - "TROUBLE" by Travis Tritt

* Kris Allen - "Forever & Ever Amen" by Randy Travis

Here's the dead wife song for Gokey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hLpVJxmDpc

I think Lambert could do well with "T-R-O-U-B-L-E."

There is no way next week is Country week. First off, if Kanye West or Kelly Clarkson is involved in a mentor role, there is no correlation there with country and they never go with country first. They usually do it once it gets done anywhere from 7-9 singers. I think they wait a bit since Simon hates country LOL so they don't want to start things off on the wrong foot.

They will always do a Country-themed week regardless of the people they have in the competition because it's a broad genre and popular like Motown, Billboard top 100 (which is essentially Pop), etc. I think any of the singers left can sing country. Who would've ever thought David Cook could sing Mariah Carey? He changed it up and made it work. That is what some will have to do or they can always find ways around it. Somone can always do "I Will Always Love You" and try to stick with the pop version. Someone did that last year. I think it was Syesha. I'm sure there are other songs like that where the singer can stick with a different version of the song or just make it their own by putting a unique spin on it a la David Cook, as I mentioned. All that being said, there is a variety of country songs that can suit any number of voices. Micheal IMO can do country very well so he should do good once this theme comes into play, providing he is still around.

Those are some good picks as far as what they all may pick. I can;t see Allison doing Reba's "Fancy" though. Not at all.

That is also a nice pic of the top 13 (I keep wanting to say top 12 and likely will keep doing so LOL). You can see how vibrant they are personality-wise so I guess the judges got their wish. Reminds me somewhat of the season 1 cast.
