I was checking out new songs on iTunes for Tuesday. Carrie Underwood has a version of Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home" that is the farewell song this year. Just listened to the preview, not bad. Couldn't find a full version yet, but here the 30 second preview someone put on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWBPq-mM_N4 |

USA Today 'American Idol': Now it gets serious as the finals begin For many fans, the American Idol season begins now. After starting with thousands of hopefuls two months ago, TV's top hit moves into the finals tonight (Fox, 8 ET/PT) with its 13 top competitors, rather than the traditional 12, performing Michael Jackson songs. Idol's brain trust touts the Season 8 class as the most diverse yet in background, personality and singing style. One singer is legally blind, another hails from Puerto Rico. A mother of three saw her home wrecked by a tornado, while one man lost his wife shortly before auditions. "It's the first time in eight seasons we got some of everybody," judge Randy Jackson says. With 13 finalists, one of several changes at least partly meant to spur interest in the long-running show, Idol apparently will have to eliminate two during one week. The particulars will be announced tonight. Executive producer Ken Warwick also promises another surprise tonight or during Wednesday's elimination show (9 p.m. ET/PT), on which Kelly Clarkson and Kanye West will perform. Some have accused Idol of pushing certain singers via their back stories, but Fox reality chief Mike Darnell says that's likely the result of audition profiles meant to help viewers get to know the singers better. Warwick agrees: "Where they've come from and what they've been through is part of the competition. (But) these things don't mean anything unless the kid can really sing." Semifinal changes, including expanding to a top 36 and restructuring eliminations, stimulated interest, Darnell says, pointing to a weekly 10-million-vote increase over last season. Nevertheless, Idol's Tuesday/Wednesday audience (27.2 million viewers on average) is down 10% in viewers and 15% in young adults. Despite the drop, Idol holds a 65% lead in young adults over the closest competitor — its largest yet. With most semifinalists singing just once, it's tougher to gauge the favorites, says Rodney Ho, Idol blogger for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. That's made the competition more intriguing for dedicated fans, but may have put off casual ones. "There's a reasonable depth to this group," he says. "It's not an obvious David-to-David competition," referring to Season 7's Cook and Archuleta. Jackson lays out a long list of contenders, including Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace, Lil Rounds and Allison Iraheta. "At least eight of these could really zing it out," he says. "I don't think anyone can have a bad week this time." ----------------------------------------------------------- Hmm... so they're announcing one of the big surprises tonight or tomorrow. I bet it's a "sing for your safety" sort of thing, where the bottom two have to sing for the judges and then the judges decide who goes home. They're doing that this year on DWTS. |

MJsBigBlog Ryan Seacrest claims to be just figuring out there’s a wee little problem with the phone digits he’ll be giving out later today. He posted via Twitter about at about 8:30 PST: "crap, were gonna have a problem on Idol tonight - just dialed 1-866-IDOLS-13 and its not quite SFW…" A little behind the times, but Ryan’s on the case: "oh man…1-866-IDOLS-00 is dirty too, lol. Just talked to one of the Idol producers and they have a plan…*crossing fingers* - ryan" UPDATE: Ryan confirmed on his radio show that the producers will be giving the 13th contestant a "special" number, due to the phone sex hotline dilemma, LoL. Also, on The View this morning, Elizabeth Hasselbeck said she was going to the broadcast of American Idol tonight to see who the two unannounced guests scheduled for tonight’s show were going to be. (Since the theme is Michael Jackson, I'm guessing him and Janet?) |

Well, Gokey did that somewhat but he didn't really change the song all that much. After reading some of that stuff from the top 13 party, Kara's comments and the comments of the producer support my point that the top 13 was not something they planned. Kara herself admitted she had no idea up until the last moment. It did feel sudden and with Simon hinting several times at how much the judges kept changing their minds on people, it makes sense. I mean, just look at the fact that they don't have another phone number for the 13th contestant. That and the fact that the producers say there is still another surprise coming this week. I bet we are getting the planned surprise this week and the top 13 surprise was last minute, as I said last week, and was done because the judges had a hard time deciding. That and it brings the show more attention. They are clearly all about shocks and drama this year with the "sing-offs" and expanding of contestants from 24 to 36 and now from 12-13. They are trying very hard to upset the applecart, so to speak to avoid being boring. I think they are trying a bit too hard but whatever. I think cubsgirl is right that the surprise may be a "sing-off" for the bottom two but, unlike DWTS, it may end up being every week. DWTS is only doing it for the first elimination (funny how I felt DWTS was ripping off Idol but Idol is ripping them off). I think Idol may do that to prevent anyone who doesn't deserve to advance from advancing. I don't know. I like that idea and kind of don't because people can have bad weeks or can rebound and prove themselves if given a chance. Plus, bias can come into play. We'll see what happens. Maybe they will do what DWTS is doing and just do the "sing-off" for this week or just for the double elimination. They can use it as a way to decide who stays and who goes. Should be interesting. I'm not upset about the double elimination. We all knew it was coming due to time constraints and all. I don't feel it was a waste to do 13 because you don't know who will make it through. The person was still given another chance to shine so that is hardly a waste. How did I guess there would be makeovers? That always seems to happen and I'm fine with it to an extent but, so far, I'm so annoyed with the double standard of wanting these people to be themselves and the judges wanting to know them while, at the same time, they completely change their image and make them uncomfortable by putting them in outfits or things that they don't like. Ugh. It was interesting reading those comments from the Idols and others at the party. I'm very concerned about this Gokey stuff. Should the surprise not be the judges deciding who goes home out of the bottom two, I have a feeling Gokey is going to go home earlier then we think. I think people will get sick of him and, unlike Archie, he can't rely on tweens to bail him out. I feel bad for him but, in a way, I don't because he and the people around him seem to be exploiting it along with the show. he says he isn't but he has the power to stop it if he wants to and he hasn't yet. I expect Adam to go home quite early too. I'm glad he isn't getting too upset by what is out there about him. He reminds me alot of Constantine. He's a "rock-poser" IMO. I do like how Brooke's advice is getting to everyone. They all are afraid to Google themselves LOL. Brooke had it pretty easy though. She was a nice person and I never saw her raked over the coals or anything. Glad Kanye West is not a mentor. That would've been a disaster LOL. I would've liked Kelly to be. I would really like former Idol winners or contestants to come on as mentors. That would be interesting and very helpful to the competing Idols. Oh well. Look forward to Kelly singing tomorrow. It seems there will be less filler with two big musical guest performances tomorrow. I think they should hold the big surprise off for tomorrow as tonight is already going to testing time constraints. So, they do Micheal Jackson theme week right off the bat. Smart idea coming off the two weeks Beatles disaster last year coming out of the gate. Actually, they had the right idea last year but two weeks of it was stupid. Anyway, the season really does start now from a dramatic standpoint so I think starting with this will be good. The songs are known and relevant and I think the Idols can do some interesting things with them. I wonder who will be the mentor or mentors tonight? Elizabeth Hassleback and others seem to be hinting it could be Janet Jackson and maybe Micheal? That would be huge. I'm betting it's Janet and maybe someone else from the Jackson 5. Should be interesting/ I wonder how they are going to fit all this. They will have to setup the top 13 round of competition and explain how they are going to do everything. Everyone will have to be introduced, including the mentors. Then you have the 4 judges (whom I hope will be to the point and will avoid pointless arguing and banter at least until the show is no longer strapped for time) and the performances. This is going to be interesting. I hope they keep the guest mentors a secret all season like they are for tonight. It adds suspense. They can say the themes but just keep the guests on the performance shows a secret. I love that new song of Carrie's. I was wondering what the "goodbye" song would be this year. Glad they used her for it. Awesome! I like them using former Idols for it. I was wondering if Kelly Clarkson may be the one this year but Carrie is just as well. Oh, and the phone line thing is hilarious LOL. I love how worried Ryan seems about it and I'm shocked the show didn't seem to know about it until just now. I also hate that comment in that USA Today article Kenny posted about how predictable it was last season, It was predictable that David vs David would happen because the show made it that way. They could've made it more unpredictable but their bias got in the way and they threw others like Carly, Micheal, etc under the bus. That was their fault and to act like they won't let their bias get in the way this year is just saying that they think we are all stupid. By the time we reach the top 8, you will have some idea of who will be in the finale and at least one slot will be made apparent. It's always been that way. The unpredictable nature is only in shocking eliminations and in the finale if someone really brings it and pulls off an upset. I also hate that comment about how they claim backstories aren't used to pimp certain contestants more then others. The fact they are trying to deny it when the contestants themselves have admitted it is just stupid. I mean, just watching the show, their bias is blatant. They haven't tried to hide it since season 4. The producers need to stop acting like we are fools. Even the judges don't try to hide their bias nor do they deny some of the viewer manipulation that goes on so why the producers work themselves into a tizzy trying to act like it doesn't happen is beyond me. Can't wait for tonight. Should be fun. Edited by PhoenixRising05, Mar 10 2009, 05:08 PM.

^I love it! I never expected this out of her either but I've seen her in concert and she actually has surprised me in some of the songs she sings. She sings "Sweet Child of Mine" alot on her tour and she rocks it. I still remember how on Idol she had alot of problems with songs that were a bit too edgy. The only sort of rock she seemed to be able do to was that song "Alone" by Heart and that is because it played to her strengths with the power vocals. Carrie really has come along after Idol. Her stage presence has grown immensely too. |

What I am missing with Adam that the judges just love. He is current? In all the seasons he is the ONLY performer to be that comfortable on the stage? I don't get it! Please someone explain it to me. |

Well, tonight was... interesting? LoL. Very interesting show. Here are my critiques: Lil Rounds - Loved her. I love her whole vibe. Her vocals aren't anything new. I've heard people like her before. What I find so enjoyable is her personality. Her vibe is so infectious. Kris Allen - Eh... pretty good. I think he could've picked a better song, but he seemed very natural on the stage with a guitar. Overall, a decent but forgettable performance. Allison Iraheta - Enjoyable. Not "out of this world" amazing or anything, but it was enjoyable. Sometimes when she sings, she sounds alot like Gwen Stefani from back in the No Doubt days. Danny Gokey - Definitely one of the best of the night. He has a great stage presence, and I was glad to see a more upbeat side of him rather than something somber and self-important. The dancing was cute too, LoL. Anoop Desai - I actually liked him! I was shocked when the judges tore him to shreds because during his whole performance, I was telling my sister how good I thought he was. He could've chosen a better song, definitely -- but his vocals were great, IMO. His voice sounded much clearer than it did last week. Jorge Nunez - Pretty vocals, but a boring song. Zzzz. One of the most forgettable performances of the night. Jasmine Murray - The song was too big for her voice. She sounds like a little girl trying to imitate a power vocalist. Underwhelming and sleep-inducing. Scott MacIntyre - Zzzzzz. That's all I'm going to say. I hope he goes home, but of course he won't. Michael Sarver - He did better than I thought he would, and he definitely picked the right song. That said, it still wasn't good enough. The performance was very forgettable. Adam Lambert - I can appreciate the guy's vocals and his talent and his ability to work the stage, but he isn't my cup of tea WHATSOEVER. He's very Broadway and very shrill. I couldn't believe it when Paula said that she's never seen a contestant in the entire history of AI who's as good as him, and my jaw hit the floor when she predicted him to win the whole thing. I think she and the other judges are smoking a little too much whacky tobacky. Megan Corkrey - LoL, I LOVED her! She's so quirky and unique and you never know what she's gonna come out there singing. Of all the contestants, she would be the one to sing "Rockin' Robin" and I love her for it. Unfortunately, I think she's in danger of going home. Alexis Grace - She oversang the mess out of that song, and once again she was dressed like a 12-year old hooker. Could that skirt have been any shorter?! I think she's a one trick pony and she doesn't impress me whatsoever. Matt Giraud - His voice is like butter, LoL. Very smoothe, very soulful. I wish he had gone somewhere else with the song to show a little range, but overall... decent. Overall, I think that Danny and Megan were my favorites of the night, with Lil Rounds trailing behind. Least impressive were Scott, Alexis and Jasmine. Everyone else fell someplace in the middle, but overall it was a decent night in terms of performances. It wasn't the trainwreck I was expecting it to be. LoL @ the judges having to cut their critiques short with the last few performances. Obviously they were running over time. As for the big surprise tomorrow, it's pretty apparent what they're doing. Rather than letting America decide who goes home this season, the judges will choose who goes home out of the Bottom 2 (or Bottom 3 for tomorrow). Part of me is happy about it because it should keep some good people from getting screwed over for dumb reasons, but part of me hates it because it allows the judges to keep their "chosen ones" safe week after week. As for tomorrow, I expect Jorge, Jasmine and either Matt G. or Kris Allen to be in the Bottom 3. Not surprisingly, the judges will decide from there who goes home since our votes no longer matter, LoL. |

Oh, and it bugged me how Simon said that Alexis Grace oversang her song (she did) but didn't say a word to Adam Lambert about butchering "Black or White." Adam is the KING of oversinging! Why is it kosher for him but not for others? Gotta love the double standards! ;) |

I couldn't believe it. They both oversang their songs. I think my whole apartment complex heard me yell "WHAT?" when Paula made that comment about never seeing a contestant as good as him. Was she that drugged up last season let alone the previous others to think he is the best ever in the series history? |

Actually... Spoiler: click to toggle I think that may be why they will go with the judges choosing who goes home out of a bottom two or three. This season is wide open, moreso then many of the seasons. The judges have a few faves. I don't think they want to diminish the influence of VotefortheWorst and other sites. I like it and I don't. I know bias will play a role but most times the judges get it right and, despite the way they threw them under the bus last year, if the judges played a role I don't think singers like Carly and Micheal would've gone home that early last season. Same goes with many of the stunning eliminations over time. The judges would've never let that happen and that is a good thing. I think they have concerns because the last two times they had a group like this (lots of personality, a bit wide open competition-wise) was in seasons 3 and 5 and those years were filled with shocking eliminations that left us with crap at the end of the season. They are trying to prevent that, I believe. However, the bad thing is that if the bottom two or three all happens to be good people or maybe someone that had a bad night, you run the risk of penalizing someone a bit unfairly. I get the show is about making every performance count but there is alot that goes along with that. The judges may like it but the public may not and vice versa. There is just alot of other factors here and it's a bit concerning. I'm pretty sure they are doing it though. They made it obvious at the end of the show when they alluded to the surprise and how it would change the format of the show and how the public may not embrace it. They hinted at more judge involvement. Simon looked a big concerned about it but it's one year. If it fails, you go back to the way things were before. We'll see but they basically admitted what the surprise was. |

Ok...here we go... First off, some general notes. I LOVED the way they started the show by introducing the judges and Ryan. That was cool. We never see them on stage like that unless it's Idol Gives Back. They hinted at it and it was obvious it was Simon's idea. He ate all the attention up. Also loved the staircase behind the monitor that Ryan walked down. It looked great and so did the whole set. I also love how the contestants can perform and interact with fans in front of the judges now. They used to go in back of them on that platform thing and I do think that was a bit risky, especially if the girls are wearing high heels. Plus, the judges I would think want to be able to see them so I like this better with the performer remaining in front of them at all times. The judges still went on too long tonight but they did better. They kept the arguing and banter amongst themselves (no need for much of that until we get down to less singers since we will need filler then) more to a minimum too except in the first half-hour which dragged. Seriously, they only had two people sing before we reached the half-hour mark. They got to improve that. I felt bad for Matt and Alexis, especially Matt. They both got rushed critiques and may as well have gotten pushed off the stage. I was pleased the show let the performances run a bit longer then they usually do at this point but the show needs to work on the time issue so they don't have to rush at the end, although I did like the judges hurrying up at the end. Hopefully, Paula and Kara get the message that they both need to get more to the point and they need to do it faster. I was also shocked at Paula. She actually did more then steal critiques off the other judges and she actually made some good points. She's been alot better in recent weeks. Probably feels she needs to actually judge now with Kara there since Kara said right out she would judge harshly now that it's the top 13. I was shocked to hear her tell people their performances weren't good or that they were all wrong. It was refreshing. I actually thought the judges, other then being a bit long-winded, were good as a whole tonight. Yes, they have their favorites and made some stupid comments (Paula especially, I will get to that later) but I didn't hear the traditional "You can sing the phone book" or "that was hot" over and over again. I was disappointed there was no mentor either. Who were the two surprise guests hinted at? That disappointed me. I thought for sure they would at least get someone from the Jackson 5. I guess it was better as they barely had enough time as it is so perhaps time constraints played a role this week in them not using a mentor. Either that or whoever they wanted wouldn't agree. Oh well. I also hated. and I think this happened with Anoop, how Paula said that the song "Beat It" was off limits. As I've said, no song is off limits. You want these contestants to challenge themselves and to be who they are. Well, this may not have been challenging but it fit who Anoop was and I'm sick of the show and it's double standards and inconsistencies. One minute the judges talk about being original and then someone picks an unknown song and tries to make people like it or puts their own spin on something and they catch hell for picking a less known song or changing the melody but if one of the "chosen ones" sings it, it's glorious. Not just that but it's Micheal Jackson night. The show wanted this theme so to hang Anoop out to dry and to tell him that song was off-limits is stupid. It' flies in the face of everything the night is about and it contradicts some of what they told Scott. Randy and Simon suggest to him to pick a more popular song and then Anoop picks a popular song and is told not to touch it. What the hell is one to do? Oh yeah. Be one of the judges "chosen few." This is truly the year of double standards and personality over talent. Now, on to the performances... Lil Rounds: I think she made the right song choice. I always say if you go first or second you either need to do something uptempo and good or something that you can belt and grab viewer attention. I think she did the former and she was ok. Good enough. I was more impressed last week even though she was a bit copy-catish last week. Her personality shined through and that is good. I love her and think she will go very far but I hope she shows us her range of vocals a bit more coming up. I've seen alot of her personality so I want to see a bit more vocals now too. The song also got a bit repetitive too but that is the type of song it is so not her fault. Scott: Well, the good thing is he is back behind his piano where he belongs. He is much more comfortable there and alot better IMO. He was better tonight and he was ok but I agree with Simon in that by picking that song he made a poor choice. It did suit him but picking a less popular song or a less known song means you have to really bring it and make people like the song. He didn't do that because he didn't perform it well enough to do so. He had some of his magic back tonight that I seen a bit earlier on but I just don't see him lasting once we get down to him and the big talent. I think when push comes to shove in regards to keeping him or losing one of the pimped contestants, he will be gone, especially if the judges are involved like we think they will be. Danny: Best of the night for me. I'm going to try to forget all the scandal surrounding him and just try to enjoy him because he's going to be here for awhile. Loved the slow start. Loved his involving the audience and Paula and Kara. He was just great. It was also refreshing to see his intro package focus on his family and not on his wife for once. The only thing I hated was his trying to explain his dancing. This isn't just his thing but I just hate when the contestants talk in between the judges. Wait until they are done. Brooke did that all the time last year and it bugged me. Let the judges talk and then speak your mind. I wish the judges would do this to. Let one judge talk and then interrupt or present a counterpoint, which brings up another point. Paula was nuts to write him in the finale. She did the same for Adam and I hate that. Talk about making the bias even more apparent then usual. I know she mentioned how Simon did the same in season 4 with Carrie and, despite me loving Carrie, I didn't like it then either. It just hurts the show IMO. Micheal: I like him and I've noted why. His intro package tonight said it all. Family man, blue collar guy...etc. I wish they would stop focusing on mentioning his job though. They laid off mentioning Danny's wife tonight. Now they need to lay off Micheal's job. It was nice seeing some of his family life though. He did ok tonight. I think he made a great song choice but made the wrong choices with his voice. He reminds me alot of the lead singer of Rascal Flatts. He can't go too high and I was shocked that he didn't choose to have the song better suit him. He started great and then once he hit the bridge and chorus he let you see him struggle with the big notes and having to range higher. That isn't good and I was shocked the judges didn't mention any of this. As a fan of his, I even noticed it and felt his performance fell apart because of it. His tone and the whole flow of the performance just went south in the second half of the performance so I was disappointed. Jasmine: She impressed me last week, enough for me to see validation in her being here. Good song choice and she did ok but she's just way too generic. Nothing special. Forgettable. She won't last long, sadly. I enjoyed hearing about her family and all. Seems like a nice family and she is a nice girl but the performance and her voice is nothing great, at least not tonight. Kris: I had forgotten about him and his guitar. Like Scott, he definitely seemed more comfortable with it and, so far, unlike last season, the instruments seem more like assistance rather then a crutch for some of these people. That is a good thing because that was why I hated having instruments last year. He was ok. Nothing special. I just loved how his wife gave Simon the look of death when he said he was shocked he told everyone he was married at this stage. I will admit I was shocked too because it does hurt his marketability in that he has the women going crazy for him but he loves his wife and I applaud him for wanting to show her off. She's pretty and he must love her to be married that young. It's wonderful. Alison: Loved her. This girl is definitely a dark horse. She knows who she is and sticks to it like the judges said. I do think Randy is right in that she can sing anything. I would like her to try something else other then rock to show some variety. She's great. I love her personality and her edge. Total rock chick. I also loved her comment to Simon when he said she needed to lighten up. She was like "It's not like I'm cutting or something." She did great. Good song choice on her part and very good performance. Megan: I'm on the fence, which doesn't happen often on this show. The song choice suited her voice and personality, although the song becomes quite repetitive and annoying after awhile. Plus, the song is very old and I don't think it will go over well with alot of viewers. The performance was cute and all but I just feel like she is here for kicks. I am getting sick of that little sway of her's. Very similar to the way Carrie Underwood always use to sway on stage because her stage presence sucked then. I don't know. She doesn't have a chance of hell at winning this. She's cute. I like her personality. I just think the judges like her because she's different and not because she is a credible threat to win it all. It is that reasoning that makes me wonder why I should care? Her voice isn't great. She has little range. She's got the Amy Whinehouse-like vibe but that doesn't really work on this show. Adam: Wow...someone sedate Paula. Again, I noted why I hate Paula or any judge saying that someone is headed to the finale, especially when we are in week one of the finals. I remember she hinted at the same with Constantine, who Adam reminds me of, and he left before top 5. I feel Adam will suffer a similar fate because I think you either like him or hate him. I will admit he was a bit better tonight but, much like last week, he shows range and brilliance on the high notes because he can scream but on everything else, he loses it. He doesn't transition over well from his lower to upper register either. He just does it. I couldn't believe the other judges liked him, especially after Simon basically felt about him last week the same way I did. He's basically a Stephen Tyler wannabe and a "rock poser." He's way too theatrical and over the top IMO. I was also shocked he didn't take on "Thriller." I thought for sure he would as it would be right up his alley with the screeching. The performance was bad overall for me and if Micheal was watching like they all hoped, I would hope he would feel the same LOL but who knows with him. Anoop: Wow...I've never been impressed with him. I've always felt an attitude coming from him too, especially last week. He doesn't have very good vocals. I feel like he is like Megan. Not a chance of hell at winning but he's different and relevant right now and that is why the judges like him. Like Megan, he is an example of why this season puts personality and character over talent. I was shocked he didn't take "Thriller" either as that would've suited him too. I already spoke about my feelings as far as the song choice and the judges. I thought this performance was dreadful. Worst of the night. Simon may have been harsh with his saying that this made him wish they had not went to 13 finalists but I see his point. They've given him chance after chance. The fans didn't vote him through. He never really overwhelms you. He has great stage presence and entertains. Plus, he's not boring. His begging for more chances turned me off big time as well. His time is up IMO. He's had enough chances and he has yet to impress. Jorge: I feel bad for him. He is so likable and rootable. His intro package made him even more likable as his being on Idol has helped his family. He finally got the judges too accept him as is, accent and all. and he had a fantastic performance last week but tonight...not so much. He wasn't horrible. The song choice was ok but he was boring. He did nothing special and it came off forgettable and that is not good with 12 other performances tonight. He played it a bit too safe and I suspect he was in awe a bit of all this, which is no surprise. It's a big difference last week to this week. I feel his time may be up too. I always felt he wouldn't last long despite his vocals and likability and now I know he won't. He just seems like someone who will box himself into one style and will do ok with it but will always play it safe because of that. He made that fact obvious when he mentioned not being able to find a song and felt this suited his voice. He seems confine himself to one style. I also didn't like him trying to make excuses even though he claimed he wasn't. He was and I still like him and I think many do but that is a turn off. Simon called him on it too and I'm glad. Overall, not too good for Jorge. Forgettable. Matt: Pretty good. He seemed more comfortable behind the piano too and, again, it's nice to have instruments complimenting performances and not being used as a crutch. I agree with Kara in that he sounded a bit like Justin Timberlake only his vocals were better. Good song choice and loved the falsetto. I also liked his look with the hat and all. He was great. Reminds me alot of Elliot Yamin too only more versatile. I wish they hadn't practically rushed him off the stage due to the time constraints and that he had a chance to bask in the afterglow and hear more from the judges but whatever. Alexis: I'm a fan of her's and I just have to say again that I hate what the judges have forced her to turn into. I don't feel this look is her at all. Whatever the case, her performance did not impress me tonight. I'm a fan and feel she should be there. I think she can win this thing and I like the attitude but it felt like more attitude and less singing. She did oversing alot and she just seemed to push way too hard to make it edgy to suit the image they forced on her. I want the girl we saw a few weeks ago and I want her to be comfortable in who she is. I hope that happens or that she at least sings the way she did a few weeks ago. I also hated what Simon said about her. implying she had an ego. I didn't see that at all. She seemed open to criticism. If she wasn't, she would not have changed her image based on what they said. Good song choice though. Her intro piece explains why I like her so much in addition to her talent. She has it in her to win but this was not her best, which is rare because usually the person that gets pimped at the end always does well. I'm shocked they put her last and gave her the phone number that they had to come up with given that she is one of the faves this season but no surprise that they would pimp her. Danny and Adam have already gotten pimp slots and so has Lil Rounds. I bet Alison gets one next. Again, I wish Alexis had a chance to hear more from the judges and to adsorb everything but time forced them to rush through the end. Nevertheless, the judges hit the right points and she was ok, not great. Overall, not a bad night and really no one but Anoop was horrible IMO. I already like the start of this tear's finals better then last because the Micheal Jackson theme was much broader and relevant. I felt the show got too old and restricted with the themes last year and this year things seem more open , broader, and more current. The night was solid as a whole and I can't wait until tomorrow. Good start to things and I feel a bit better about what is to come now, even if the surprise is what we all think. As for my overall rankings and who could and should go home, here they are: 1.) Danny 2.) Alison 3.) Matt 4.) Lil Rounds 5.) Scott 6.) Micheal 7.) Jasmine 8.) Kris 9.) Alexis 10.) Megan 11.) Jorge 12.) Adam 13.) Anoop Who SHOULD be in the bottom four (two are going home afterall) and who SHOULD go home: Anoop, Adam, Jorge, and Megan with Anoop and Adam going home (my preference LOL). Who WILL be in the bottom four and who WILL go home (and I'm also factoring in the judges since that appears to be going to happen): Jorge, Alison, Jasmine, and Kris or Megan with Jorge and Jasmine being sent home. |

Currently, DialIdol has... Spoiler: click to toggle This is why I think the judges and the show want to do have the judges involved. Like last year, the results are already showing how close the voting results will likely be and this is how last year was too until we got near the end. They don't want good people going home early like last year because then we get left with a predictable finish and a messy middle to the finals. Last year, we lost Micheal and Carly and the competition was pretty much over. There was no one left to stop the David vs David train and they don't want that this year. They want it to be more wide open and having the judges pick who goes home helps them ensure all that doesn't happen. |
