^^I agree that Danny performed the song very well, but it just reminds me too much of Archie from last season that all he is going to do is sing these message songs. I think it could get boring. Although one thing he does have over Archie is that at least I feel like when he picks these message songs he believes in them so I feel more connected when he performs them for that reason. I have to disagree with Viki about Adam. Sure Simon may not know country music, but one thing Simon does know is WHAT SELLS. And music today is about what sells. Adam isn't marketable in this music market. Maybe back in the 80's when all the big hair bands were out, but not today. Just because you slow a song down and add a different instrument does not make you a creative genius. He completely lost the meaning of the song because you get so distracted by performance aspect of him. And I think that is the same with Megan. She has this classic blues-jazz raspy voice, dresses in these cute dresses and then has the full arm tattoo. The image doesn't go together and you get so distracted by it that you lose the meaning of the song. Way back in season 2 Simon made a comment to Clay Aiken about how he enjoys him much better when his eyes are closed. What that comment said (and I think it could be placed on others this year) is that basically the image of Clay and the voice coming out didn't match. It takes away from the song. Now I didn't agree with it when it came to Clay, but I think it works with both Adam and Megan this year. The music industry is just as much about image as the voice behind it. I mean why do you think Britney Spears is still a huge star. ;) |

I bet Michael goes. I wouldn't mind Scott going. Why do I have a feeling Megan or Allison will go though? |

Oh wow - I hope we lose Megan and not Allison and Alexis! Megan is a one-trick pony...from her voice, to her hand on the hip and the occasional butt shake. |

I missed a couple performances (Adam, thankfully, being one of them) but my favorites for last night were Danny, Kris, and Matt. I still really like Lil and Allison, and even Alexis, but I wasn't overly impressed by any of them. |

Same here. I really liked her when she sang "Alone", but I haven't liked her much the last two weeks. I hope Megan goes tonight though. I don't like her at all. To me she sounds like she is talking most of the time instead of singing and she sounds the same every week. |

I know he didn't like Adam last night, but I still disagree. Simon DOES like Adam and thinks he has a chance at winning. This interview was on Extra last night: http://extratv.warnerbros.com/2009/03/jacko_on_idol.php |

I really hope Megan goes home today..She looks like she's trying to be Amy Winehouse, but she doesn't have the vocals to be anywhere near that...All she's got is her looks... |

I knew I would be bored on country week.. And I was... Kris, Anoop and Matt were the best of the night. Kris totally shocked me! Now I have more reason to cheer for him other than the initial reasons.. :D :D So happy Adam failed.. :D |

Thanks for posting that. I don't know. I think it depends on where the competition is at this point and who is liked more. As I said, it has to be unanimous and while I have no doubt Randy, Paula, or Kara would save him, I have my doubts that Simon would. I think Simon likes some of the others a bit more but we'll see. Obviously, if DialIdol is right (and it's accuracy is always suspect around this stage), tonight could be the key to this whole season. Alexis was being pimped by the show and the judges all loved her. If she is indeed the one leaving, do they save her? If they save her, there goes the one save and if Adam has another incident like last night, there is no safety net. Now, on to my comments about last night. Again, glad they introduced the judges again and I didn't mind the judges talking so much last night because they do have more time now with only 11 left. Plus, the banter between them did not bother me because it was over the contestants and not about something with the judges. I was glad Simon called out Paula That fight was fun. They seemed to make up quick though but it was fun. It was refreshing to see a disagreement over a performance instead of nonsense. Paula needs to cut out the long-winded shit. I've said it before and I will say it again, she should only dance during a performance if she can manage to still think about what she wants to say after it's over. In other words, she shouldn't dance at all because she's proven she can't do two things at once. Plus, what is with her sounding like she is going to cry after every performance? I keep thinking something is wrong with her lately. I also wish they would go back to going right down the line and not switching up the order of the judge's commentary. Sure, it makes Paula look bad (which is funny) because she relies on the others to come up with comments for her to steal but I just prefer they go right down the roll. Randy can get the audience to calm down faster and it speeds the pace a bit and sets up Paula/Simon drama. I know it was Simon's idea so he didn't always have to wait to be least but I prefer it the old way. Glad they had a mentor this week and it worked out better then it would've last week because they had more time. I wanted one last week too but they had limited time. Randy Travis looked awful. Wow. I like him and I was glad that he didn't kiss everyone of the contestant's ass like mentors sometimes do. I don't want someone to come in there and just be ok with everything. I want someone to give criticism and help the contestant and advise. Randy wasn't exactly what Andrew Lloyd Webber was last year but he did good. . Now, to the performances: Micheal: I'm a big fan and expected him to do well this week. I don't get why the judges and Micheal keep saying he is a R&B singer. The guy is more country IMO. He even had the look and blue-collar roots. Paula had a point with that when she said he is suited for country. The minute I heard what he was singing, I knew it wouldn't work out. It's a tough song to sing but you end up focusing way too much on memorizing the words and keeping up with the song. It's a fun song and I agree that when you are the first two to go you should so something either uptempo or memorable but, to me, it came off bad. You just can't showcase your voice on the song. It's fun and you can have a good time with it but it doesn't prove anything and that is what you must do at this stage. I see what Micheal was saying about having fun but he let me down tonight and I was shocked when he talked back to Simon the way he did. He came off a bit smug last night and lost points with me. One of the reasons I liked him was because of who he was and his attitude last night didn't even seem like the guy I've liked all along. Very disappointing. Alison: Good vocal. Excellent song choice. I'm a big fan of her's but I have to agree with King that it's getting boring. You know what to 3expect from her because you know she will sing well and know what kind of song she will sing. She needs to stick with what works but I hope she strives to be memorable. She needs to make choices that not only suit her but that will leave an impression beyond "She was good, as always." She needs to work on the "wow" factor. I like her otherwise but I have to wonder if the show likes her. The judge's say good things but they keep sticking her in horrible slots in the performance order. Putting her second is taking a huge risk if you want to keep her in and I hate how they keep lumping her in with Kris. These two have been performing back to back each time they've been onstage. It's like they are a package deal or something. She did good though. Kris: Wow...I LOVED him. I was shocked because I expected it to be boring as hell and old fashioned when I heard what he was doing. Good song choice but a bit risky (especially singing a ballad so early on in the show) without his guitar but kudos to him because one of my complaints last year was some were using instruments to cover their flaws and get by. He just proved to me he has a voice and I hope he considers varying it up a bit. Use the guitar at times and stick to vocals at times. He should never just stick with one. He's become a darkhorse for sure. I just wish he would work on his personality because he is so bland unless he is singing LOL. I can root for him now and I'm glad that he seems to be doing well despite people knowing he is married. I expected that to hurt his female vote a bit but I guess you can look at it as making him endearing since he isn't hating that fact. Lil Rounds: I knew this would be tough for her but I did think she could be ok if she made a smart choice. She could've picked something and found a way to make it suit her. If she wanted to go with Martina McBride, she could've went with something else to show off her vocals and it could've worked. I don't think she did that. First off, it's hard to slow down "Independence Day" and make it work. I think she made it work to an extent during the second half of the song but the first half was a mess and she looked so out of her element. Plus, again, what is with people backtalking the judges? Don't talk when the judge's talk. Comment after they finished. I always hated when Brooke White did that last year. Granted, she was nice about it but stilll. Lil Rounds came off egotistical last night, like "How can you say that? I'm one of the chosen ones!" Don't explain yourself. Suck it up, comment politely after the judge's talk if Ryan asks you something, and then that's it. I did like Simon's struggling with her name though LOL. Scott: Not bad. I saw both Paula and Simon's points. However, I think Scott feels lost and looks awkward without the piano. If not for his situation, I would agree with Paula that he is using the piano as a crutch. He has sang without the piano and he's done ok. He will never impress you but he can sing. I just think there are better then him in this competition. I also think that he picked a Martina McBride song that is hard to slow down to make it work. The song just loses it's effect but it wasn't too bad. Simon is right that the songs he chooses are far too similar. It's more about that then the piano. He needs to vary things a bit. Adam: I've already said how I felt. Awful. I realize that may not have been his arrangement and that he found it but still. You don't do that to a legendary song. Poor Johnny Cash. I just went from not liking Adam to hating him and now nothing will change that. He had a chance to change my mind but toning things down and going with a softer performance to show off his vocals like he did in the clip posted a few pages back but now I don't care. The fact that 3 out of the 4 judges even tolerated that makes me hate him even more because it's reminding me of Archuleta now. Those 3 won't bash him no matter what. Randy Travis and the woman sitting next to him and Simon had the right idea and I think he turned himself off to alot of people too. Just look at how far he dropped on DiaiIdol off next week. Again, he's reminding me of Constantine from season 4 only he does other things that turn people off to him. I think he will be a goner by the top 4. No way he goes beyond that because people will either like him or hate him and I think many will prefer Danny more. Plus, I think Matt is gaining momentum and his similarities to Justin Timberlake in some ways will only help so I expect Adam to slip through the cracks, so to speak, at some point. Alexis: Good song choice and I liked how she tried to put her own spin on it with the arrangement but she did nothing impressive with it. It felt too safe. The thing I liked is that I felt this was who she really is. She was showing people the true Alexis before the judges forced her to dirty herself up and become edgier. I hated the judges getting on her about losing her edge. I've hated them being on her case with that since they made her change who she was. She is very talented and I just hate them forcing her to something that doesn't seem to her, even if she does make it work. I know she listened to them and promised she would dirty herself up again but I still think it's all wrong. I don't think she likes it and I hate the judge's making her do it when they preach about the contestants showing who they are. I do agree that she was forgettable and that is probably why she lost support. Who knows if DialIdol is right but, if it is, will they save her? I hope so. She is very talented. Danny: Wow, shocking song choice LOL. I would've been shocked if he didn't sing "Jesus, Take The Wheel" or something else similar. I mean, after he sang Mariah Carey's "Hero," I knew he would go with inspirational songs like this. His Christian fanbase will eat it up and the sympathy factor will continue to go through the roof. My problem is, as cubsgirl pointed out, is that he's coming off like Archuleta last year. I want Danny to vary things a bit and go with something other then message songs or inspirational songs just to avoid the same issue. Having said that, despite my issues with Danny, I thought he did fantastic last night. Like King, I got chills. No one doubts his talent but I enjoyed hi much more last night then last week. Anoop: Biggest shock of the night! Wow...what a transformation and big difference from last week! He was the comeback contestant of the year. I appreciate his resilience. I LOVED him last night. He took a risk because he's never done anything like this on stage but I actually hope he continues to vary things a bit. I understand he likes to have energetic performances but it's about singing more then anything else and he got it right last night. Simon said it best. Wherever Kenny is, I hope he reads my post because I'm eating crow. I've been waiting for him to show me something and prove something and he did. Anoop impressed me and showed why he belongs, as Simon said. I hope Anoop continues to do things like this. He needs to show off the vocals he clearly has and stay away from what I feel were indulgent song choices. His performances were too flashy and not enough substance. He came off too egotistical but this week he was a different person. He showed vulnerability and star power. Wardrobe needs to be worked on though because his look did not match the song but very good job for Anoop. Megan: Kudos to her for performing sick with the flu. I was wondering what was up with her because she seemed distant and seemed to be avoiding the others. Poor girl couldn't stop coughing yet I only noticed her sickness in her performance once when he tried to go a bit higher and I heard her voice get scratchy. Otherwise. I enjoyed her. As Simon said, she sounded better sick although I wouldn't recommend getting sick to sing better. No way is she leaving when she is sick, at least I wouldn't think that would happen. Usually people feel sympathetic when your sick and her coughing after the performance was over made it obvious how sick she was. That and the judges mentioning it and her visit to the hospital. She was much better then last week but that was easy since the song choice was better. her stage presence sucks though. The swaying needs to go and I want to see her move around more. She reminds me of Carrie Underwood with the way she just moves from side to side. It bugs me. I also agree with the point about her losing what makes her unique with the dress she wore last night. That was a good point. They are dressing her up too much. They need to stick with her unique look to match her unique performances. I think she is similar to Duffy but I feel she is much better then Amy Winehouse, or that she can be better then Winehouse. I can't stand Amy Winehouse LOL But I like Megan. She won't win but she is talented and can be successful, I think. My concern is that she is on the verge of getting too old-fashioned. She needs to spice things up a bit next week, if she is back Matt: LOVED him. My favorite of the night. I love that song and loved his take on it. I didn't see the Buble comparison. For me, he's similar to Justin Timberlake only the voice is a bit better and he likes to use the Piano. I hope he doesn't use it every week though because then there will be a problem. Unlike Scott, he doesn't have a reason to justify using it every week and it comes off like using it as a crutch. Also, I was shocked that they gave him the pimp slot because I never felt the show was hyping him but I think I felt the tide turn for him last night. I was glad Simon said he wasn't getting enough credit because he isn't. Which brings me to another point. Last night things got interesting. Last week it was about the "chosen ones" (Danny, Adam, Lil, Alexis) and this week it was more about the darkhorses (Anoop, Kris, Matt). There is a balance here and I feel a whole lot better about this season now. Some of these people proved themselves to me and now I'm feeling better about this not ending up like season 3 or 5. Sure, they went more with personalities but some of them are proving themselves and the show is not feeling predictable for the first time in ages. I'm beginning to think no matter who the show or judges pimp, it may not matter. This year could be more wide open then any other year and definitely more wide open then we all thought. Just look at DialIdol last week and now this week. Lots of fluctuation. Some fluctuation is normal this early on but not like this. Things are looking much more interesting now. Another thing I alluded to concerning talking back to the judges...it may not have an effect on voting this week (it usually does though historically, especially talking back to Simon, which is usually the kiss of death for everyone except David Cook very early on last year, who didn't get hurt by it) but it does have an effect on people's feelings toward you. Just look at what it did for me. I was a fan of Micheal and Lil Rounds and now I'm a bit down on both of them. Danny looked like he was nearly ready to talk back but he hesitated and said nothing. That is the way to me. Take your medicine, don't say anything or try to explain yourself, and if Ryan asks say something then but don't do anything that causes issues with the judges or that makes you look bad. It's ok to respectfully disagree but they should be careful with how they say things. I just hope these contestants realize this because I would hate for a trend to develop. Good show last night though. I usually do like Country week but sometimes it can be better then others because some will pick rather obscure songs. I think keeping it to just Opry members and their songs kept things a bit more relevant and made the contestants go with popular artists and more famously known songs. I was glad they showed a clip of Carrie being surprised with a membership into the Opry too because I remember watching that on Youtube and feeling so happy for her. It's an honor to be a member of such a historic organization. I wish Carrie had been a mentor (especially since two of her songs were used) but I've made that point before about using former Idols as mentors so I will leave it at that. It would've been cool to see her reaction to seeing them sung on Idol. I hope they ask for her reaction tonight. I loved when Paula told Danny that Carrie would buy his version of her song and Simon said she wouldn't rush out for it LOL. I look forward to tonight and seeing Carrie sing her duet with Randy Travis and seeing how right Dialidol is. It should be interesting to see if they save Alexis should she be the one going. Sorry I wasn't around last night to post my critiques! LoL I'm here now though, so here goes... Adam Lambert - Terrible. He tried so hard to copy Dilana's version of "Ring of Fire" and it just wasn't good. I hate him. Alexis Grace - Zzzzzzzz. Boring. I hate her. Everything about her. The hair... her voice... so vanilla. Allison Iraheta - Not as good as previous weeks, but I still enjoyed her. One of the better performances of the might. Megan Joy - Not bad, especially for being suck with the flu. I can't imagine getting up there and putting on a show when I feel like death warmed over, LoL. I'm glad she chose a Patsy Cline song. Very good choice for her vocals. Danny Gokey - Predictable song. I knew he would sing it since he's such a Jesus freak. The beginning sucked and it only got decent halfway through. Anoop - LOVED IT! I think he was my favorite of the night. Clear, crisp vocals. A simplistic performance. Just gorgeous. Kris Allen - Meh... decent, but nothing to write him about. I'm not crazy about the song he sang. Matt Giraud - Um, I love him. He was great again. 'Tis all! Scott MacIntyre - OMG, so boring. So middle of the road. Please get off the stage, 'kay? Thanks! Lil Rounds - No. Just no. Terrible song choice, LoL. Michael Sarver - Cute performance, but nothing to write home about. I hate how he constantly tries to push away his "good ol' boy" status ("I'm not country, I'm soul!") but then the moment Opry week rolls around, he's all about embracing his country voice, LoL. Either way, his performance wasn't that great for me. Spoiler: click to toggle Looking forward to Carrie Underwood tonight! I love, love, love the song she'll be singing. |

Her voice has been that way since the day she auditioned. I don't think she tries to impersonate. I think that's just the way she sounds naturally, LoL. I love how unique she is! |

I all ready downloaded Carrie and Randy's song that there going to sing tonight onto my i-pod and listened to it alot today. I really enjoyed it alot. I just love my Carrie. I loved Kris, Anoop and Matt G the best last night and then Danny. Hate Adam and I really liked him alot before that song. I hope next week he'll do a hell lot better so I'll love him again. He does have a really good voice thou. And I think that's why I hate what he did to that song. I liked Allison the best out of the girls last night. Another thing about Adam he sure made my husband notice Idol last night. And my husband does not like idol. But he notice it for the wrong reasons. But he did like Matt G alot. And he liked Lil. Also Kris. |
