With Megan, I've noticed that when they show the clip of her practicing her song next to the piano, she always sounds really good. But then the moment she gets on stage, it's like she tries singing too "strong" and ends up straining her voice, whereas in the practice clip she sings much softer and and with more falsetto. |

ADAM WAS AWFUL! OMG! The judges are on crack!! LOL! Megan, girl, why did you pick that! She should have picked some Annie DiFranco. She could have rocked that. I loved Matt. Totally Disagree with the judges. I hated Scott. LOL. It was good, but again. Do something ELSE! Lil Rounds is really disappointing me. LOVED Gokey! |

I want to like Adam, I really do, but something really rubs me the wrong way about him, as if he's not really being genuine with any of his performances. The screaming or whatever that he does to hit a high note really annoys me. Meanwhile with Kris, it's completely the opposite, I get a Kelly vibe from him. The guy deserves to win IMO. So would Matt too, but I dunno after tonite's performance. I liked it, but I kinda get a feeling he wasn't really trying to be himself with his performance. Tonite was the first time I saw Lil Rounds perform, and I wanted to like her, but couldn't. She seems to have an awesome persona, but the song choice just didn't give her any justice. I've noticed that thing with Megan too, Kenny. Good point. Maybe it's just the pressure or her wanting to try to hard. The week she was sick she actually was her best IMO so maybe being sick forced her not to dwell too much on things. I would normally do a long-ass post but since I commented enough as we went, I will just do a synopsis: Anoop: Bad song choice, indulgent, a total Usher ripoff, arrogant...in danger tomorrow night, especially performing so early. Everytime he picks a song like this he comes off horribly like he did tonight and he always acts cocky afterwards too when he does songs like this. Maybe he should just stick to ballads because I like him when he does things like that. I did like how he opened the performance having the background singers in front of him and then breaking off into different directions, although that looked a bit indulgent since he isn't exactly a star and it came off like he thought he already was or something. Those friends of his in the audience were annoying too. Maybe the judges were right and they were frat boys who pushed him into singing that. He made a mistake talking back though. A big one. Ryan mentioned how he was biting his tongue and clenching his jaw but apparently he wasn't doing it enough. I just wonder why he singled Kara out and didn't direct his frustration at the other judges. It came off like he targeted her. In fact, there seemed to be alot of people against Kara tonight. The audience, Simon yelled at her for lashing out at the audience (big mistake because many people already dislike her it seems and people will boo...just deal with it), and Anoop went after her. The audience does need to save the reactions for after the judge's are done talking. Their commenting takes forever as it is and it's more respectful to do that but it's hard to control people and getting them to do things at certain times is impossible. I also hate that he talked back to Kara about the wrong shit. The song was not necessarily the issue. It was the fact that it lacked anything special and he showed no originality. It was a ripoff. I'm sure Ryan will focus a bit on the Kara and Anoop drama tomorrow. Should be interesting. Megan: Boring and awful for the most part Song choice was ok but, as Randy said, it didn't do her many favors and liking it isn't enough reason to sing it. I liked how Simon made the point about how Megan says every week she likes the song but she will do better next week. That was funny. Her unique style requires the right song and right balance. She only did well the week she was sick. Going second tonight won't help her. She is in danger and will likely leave tomorrow. Danny: Good vocals. Just don't like him and the song choice was so predictable in terms of the type of song. I do love the song though. I was happy he didn't exploit the tragedy in his life and that the show didn't either. I also was happy that he wasn't as arrogant as he was last week. He was still arrogant (especially in his intro video and when talking about his disagreement with Simon last week) but he at least seemed to listen to the judges this week or acted like it. Alison: The look was weird but whatever. Liked the hair though. The judges comments were funny but it was hilarious how Paula said she was going all the way to the finish line when a few weeks ago she locked Danny and Adam in for the finale. It's not about the look or what she is wearing though. It's about the singing. Not her best. She rushed a little bit, especially early on, but the vocals were there (I don't think she was shouting at all) and the guitar was a nice touch. I think she may have been better off either using it the whole performance or not using it at all though because I think having to adjust to being without it midway through the performance kind of messed with her focus a bit but not bad. Good song choice. Love the song. Scott: Much better this week. Good song choice, even if it was predictable. He is what he is. He can't really do much else. I don't think he needs to change things up. Just sing well and try to do something that makes people remember him and tonight he did that. I liked his performing without the orchestra. I think that helps because it's one less thing for him to worry about as he doesn't have to keep up with everyone. He showed the range he does have, limited as it is, it wasn't boring despite being a slow song. His new look is a bit awkward but he had to shake things up, I guess. I just wish Simon and Paula would stop arguing while he is up there and the piano argument is two weeks old...let it go LOL. Matt: I see what the judges were saying because it was awfully similar to the lead singer of The Fray and he didn't seem like he was himself (he went a bit over the top in parts and the whole "gravel" tone he brought out a few times in the performance was so not him and not authentic) but I still find myself cringing after hearing their comments. I already explained why but it still irks me. I love the song and The Fray so that may be why I liked the performance. It wasn't his best but it wasn't bad and I liked his performing amidst the audience. I wish the judges had made note of that as it was unique. I do think what the judges suggested about Matt singing One Republic was a good point. It would've suited him but I would worry about that being a copycat performance too because he sounds so much like One Republic. Not bad though for Matt tonight. Lil: I felt the song was too big for her but she did ok with it. I almost feel like she struggled and forced her way through but somehow still worked it out. I do like her look. Very similar to Syesha from last season and her transformation. I already expressed by displeasure with the obvious ploy for sympathy with her kids and my anger at the judges for continuing the comparison's to Mary J. Blige. I hate how they keep reiterating the same comparisons with these people. They say shit like that and when the person sings something by that artist they complain they are a copycat. Ugh. Not bad for Lil this week though. I just wish we could see her so some stuff that suits her and shows off her dynamic personality too. I just think she is forcing things and not picking songs that fit her and allow herself to just be natural and perform. Adam: I like his hair the past few weeks. He looks much better. I appreciated the nod to the band and it's nice that he doesn't come off as cocky as Danny does. Adam's performances are rather indulgent but I think that is his style. He wants attention. Did not like him as much this week as last and I'm not on his bandwagon yet but it wasn't bad. Odd song choice though and a bit corny with the dancing and all but his screaming and screeching actually worked well within the song and he transitioned over to it from the more softer vocals much better then he did earlier in the competition. I still would like to see him do more of what he did last week though. I actually felt he was genuine last week and he struck a chord with me. He didn't quite do that this week but still not horrible. Kris: Good song choice. Good vocals. Very original and creative. I liked him on the piano. He's showing his versatility. We've seen him with and without the guitar and now he's performed with a piano. He;s picked songs from various genres, some of which are very old, and made them work and made them contemporary. He is showing more personality and confidence. He has grown alot and improves every week. I've really come to like him and I hope he continues to open up more and improve. He's definitely the one whose come the farthest in this competition. He seems to be establishing a fanbase and he could really go far if he continues this momentum he's had since the top 12 began. All in all, a pretty bad night with bad song choices and alot of huffy people early on between Anoop, the audience, and Kara. I did like the little video in the beginning with the contestants going to Ryan's radio show. That's a nice studio that Ryan looks in. I've seen some radio studios and many are so small and awful looking. I also liked how Ryan asked Paula if she had any props under the table this week and she actually checked LOL. Good stuff. Adam just reminds me of Fantasia and David Archuleta at this point. I think he is horrible. The judges and America love him. He's going to the final two. |

^Not sure about that yet, King. Unlike Danny, Adam has shown some cracks in his level of support. Simon has totally bashed him a couple of times and seemed to be laughing more at him then praising him tonight. A few weeks ago, his awful performance resulted in him dropping down in support it seems. He's unique and he has this "you either love him or hate him" sense to him and that is not a good thing. That isn't to say he will make it but I get this sense that both him and Danny won't make it there and I think Adam is more vulnerable. Danny has been loved by everyone pretty much every week and is always at the top. The worse Simon ever said about him was calling him "clumsy." I also think, despite the pimping, that the show does not want another all-male final like last year. Paula is really the only one who seems to think Danny/Adam is set in stone and even she tonight told Alison she could go all the way. I have a feeling Lil is being pushed to be in the final too. I think the show and judges will be fine providing it's at least one of them (Danny or Adam) and Lil/Alison because they are all commercial and relevant, although I think they aren't pimping Alison as much as the other three quite yet. Did anyone notice tonight how Kara got caught off just as she was saying that Matt did not deserve to go home? I think the show could care less if he leaves. That much is clear now. I think Kris's ascension to major contender has kind of made Matt expendable to them. I've been reading some other forums and there are some interesting things I've read. I'm starting to get the feeling the feeling that Kris could be a real spoiler in this for Danny. I think Matt/Danny/Kris appeal to the same group of people and, while I think Matt is losing ground, I think Kris gaining ground could hurt Danny, especially if he continues to do well. Once we get down to less then 5-6 people, anything can happen. We've all seen it. I just don't see both Danny and Adam getting there. Some people on the DialIdol foruns talked about there being "The Stealth Chosen One" or the "TSCS" (meaning the secret fave of the show and judges that kind of sneaks up on people and starts as the undergo and ends up as the actual "chosen one"), "The False Chosen One" or "TFCO" (person who is pimped, takes the backlash from fans), and "The Chosen Runner-Up" or "TCRU" (person who ends up getting pimped but becomes the sacrificial lamb for the "TSCS"). I actually think they made alot of sense, especially looking at past seasons. Look at season 6 for example. Lakisha got pimped out of the gate and then Melinda got pimped as well. All of a sudden, Jordin comes out of nowhere and goes on a roll and becomes a favorite while both Lakisha and Melinda got knocked out prior to the finale. Then you have last year where Archie and Carly were pimped big time prior to the top 12 but then Cook performs 'Hello" and, once we reach the top 12, Carly no longer gets pimped and hardly gets any praise from the judges and Archie continues too while Cook continues to sneak up on people and becomes the favorite. Meanwhile, Archie takes all the backlash and ends up losing. There is definitely something to this and seeing Kris get the pimp slot tonight after a few weeks of good performances makes me wonder if he may be the new fave, the underdog who has come on to become TSCO. I also think either Danny or Adam will be TCRU and the other will end up in the finale unless there is some sort of dramatic shift. We'll see but I'm going to start using these abbreviations in my commentary because I really think they fit what happens with the show LOL. Edited by PhoenixRising05, Apr 1 2009, 12:52 AM.

I think Megan is gone for sure. There is a good distance between her and Alison on DialIdol and she did go second tonight and sang a boring song. I think Alison in the bottom can help a bit. It will likely lead to a surge in voting for her next week. That seems to be the thing this year for some of these contestants. One week your in the bottom and then the next week you see a gain in voting (especially if the show gives you a good slot in the performance order), that is if you survive. Hopefully, Alison does but I think she will. Edited by PhoenixRising05, Apr 1 2009, 02:28 AM.

The final DialIdol numbers are in, and it's showing Anoop, Allison and Megan in the Bottom 3. Megan is dead last, followed by Allison and then Anoop. Megan and Allison's scores are very close -- pretty much too close to call. Also, when you look at the graph of busy percentages, it actually shows that Megan had more busy signals than Allison. At this point, it could be either one of those two going home, IMO. |

This is the deal IMO Danny should win this thing if he wants it. Winning isn't always the best thing Why because you get hyper managed. I think that Adam could win it if he would stop with the screaming crap. I agree with many that Kris could be the one who turns it on at the end and surprises everyone. I thought Matt in the beginning could be the one to surprise us but it turns at that Kris is that guy. I think the ladies are being out matched by the guys and I think we will have three guys in the top three: Danny, Adam and Kris. |

So I missed the first half of the show because I was finishing up a paper, so I missed Danny :( and Anoop and Allison ... who are a few of my favorites. The clips at the end showed me that Danny did really well and Anoop and Allison were kind of so-so. That's too bad. I hope neither of them go tonight. I turned it on just as Matt was finishing up, and I think he did ok. It wasn't a BAD performance, but it wasn't really great either. Seriously, please get rid of Kara. Just please. Really, the only stand out to me, from what I got to see, was Kris. WOW! He did such an amazing job! He said he wanted to create a moment, and I think he did. Oh, and I hate Adam again. Shoot, I don't have anything against him personally, I mean, he actually seems really sincere in his appreciation of praise and stuff but UUUUUGGGGGGHHHHH. I just hate his singing style. I loved what he did last week, and then he turns around this week and goes right back to screeching. Oh, and I missed Megan, but the clip at the end wigged me out. I just find her kind of creepy. I don't know what it is, her style used to be cool and jazzy and now it is just freaky and weird. And I still honestly do not get the Danny hate here. I really do not see what there is to hate so much about him. I never see him being preachy or arrogant or any of the things several of you talk about. Maybe I'm biased because I like him, but usually if someone is like that it turns me off of them, and that has noot happened for me at all. It is starting to kind of happen for me with Lil. Although I can understand why some contestants seem like they are getting a bit of an attitude about stuff since the judges are on crack and don't make any sense. Let me just say it one more time: Please get rid of Kara. I HATE her. If they keep her next season, I might need to just record the show and watch it later just so that I can FF through all of her comments. |

I noticed that but if you look at the first week of the top 13 and the week Alexis left, the same thing happened. Alison had less busy signals then Jasmine, who ended up leaving. She also had less then Alexis, who ended up leaving. I do agree it's close but the first graph is usually the one that hits it right and it has Megan below Alison a decent amount so I think she will survive this week. It just makes me wonder if they would use the save on Alison if she was the one. The judges always commend her and didn't think she was bad last night so it's an interesting thing to think about. Kara is the one who said herself that Alison shouldn't have been in the bottom 3 last week and that people should be voting for her. I think they would save her without a doubt around the top 5 or 6 since it's the point where the save is nearly out of play but saving her now...I just wonder. Okay, Kris Allen just KILLED them! He was the best of the night! He totally surprises me EVERY week! I never expect much, but I get A LOT! I'm not saying he has the best voice ever, but what he does with his voice impresses me so much. He knows how to pick a song and make it sound awesome! It's amazing! Love him! Danny was good tonight as well. Everyone else was pretty bad, IMO. I was surprised by the arrangement in Adam's song, cause it did sound fresh, but then he said it was Ricky that did the arrangement, so I lost all good thoughts I had about the performance. I just can't stand his screaming. That's not even singing. It's screaming. Plain and simple. Matt I thought would be good, but he just wasn't. I love Fray and I love "You found me", but it wasn't good. Apologize would have been amazing, I'm sure. Alison rushed through it and it just turned out to be boring. Oh and wasn't it funny when she said she grew up on that song? I mean, she's 16... Don't speak came out in 1997.. which is 12 years ago (OMG, 12 YEARS?! I'm old...), so she was 4 back then.. lol Anoop sounded like Usher to me, but I just wasn't interested. Megan was baaaaad. Scott's vocals were good, but I was bored. Lil has been amazing, but it really was an oldfashioned song, which made her performance boring. So as long as it isn't Kris, I really don't care who goes. |

During last night's show, Megan's brother (CJ) shouted "broken record" while Kara was giving feedback to Megan's performance. I didn't hear it, but many others did. Anyway, here's a writeup on EW.com about what went down when the cameras weren't on... Just as I'd finished hooting with laughter at the brilliant cruelty of Kara opening with "I really like you, but" -- you know it's bad when they skip the outfit and go straight for the heart -- a voice interrupted the DioGuarbot with "Broken record!" The voice seemed to come from Megan's family, and sure enough, her brother CJ was more than happy to raise his hand and take responsibility. Kara ran off the rails and handed her flaming caboose to Paula... Once the cameras were pointed elsewhere, Kara made mocking faces to Paula and Simon, presumably in reference to CJ talking back while she was trying to be authoritative. Paula and Simon ignored her... On her way out for break, Kara and her burly bodyguards stomped over to Megan's family to have a little chat. Kara did not look happy... On our way to the Grove parking structure, two of my journalist buddies and I ran into Megan's brother CJ... we asked him what Kara wanted when she came stomping over to them. CJ said she seemed mad, and wanted to know what he meant by "broken record." He responded with "'Package artist' is your package phrase," which made her stomp away. |

I figured that theme would be coming up. They seem to do it every year. Lot of good 80's songs to choose from! |
