Have you noticed that Kris Allen has performed in the first hour every week except one? For whatever reason, they always have him perform early in the show. I think that hurts him quite a bit. It doesn't give him a chance to really be pimped as hard as Danny and Adam.

Nice observation. I thought after giving him the pimp slot last week the show was behind him but I guess not. Then again, that didn't seem to be hurting him until this week as he was doing well voting-wise on DialIdol up until now, really. No surprise though. They gave Matt and Alison both the pimp slot in the past few weeks and then threw them back into the beginning of the show or after Danny and Adam where they can easily be forgotten.

I don't think I've seen Lil anywhere near the end of the show at all. She got the pimp slot during the top 36 round but not at all in the top 13, which is a shock given how much she was pimped.

By the way, I just checked and the judges have until the Top 5 to use the save. Not Top 6. So that buys them an extra week.

“From this point forward, up until the Top 5, the judges can save one contestant from elimination, just once,” Seacrest said. “It has to be unanimous, and once they’ve used the save, they cannot use it again the entire season. The week they use the save, no one will be eliminated. But the next week, two will go.”

^Yeah. I was going to correct you on that earlier but I forgot LOL.

I still think King is right and they are about ready to use it. The show needs a shakeup to draw attention to itself again.

It's just as going to be just as bad when we reach Top 4 and they all sing two songs.

The problem lies with Kara, Paula and the audience.

For one, the audience boos everything that comes out of Simon's mouth. Or when Simon makes a positive statement, they cheer for entirely too long. He ends up having to pause in order to be heard over all the noise.

Then you've got Paula, who not only takes an hour to string five words together, but she also interrupts Simon and makes endless snarky comments to him that aren't even funny. The crayons and coloring book? Stupid.

Finally there's Kara. Good ol' Kara. She goes on and on and on and on and ON. Then even when she promises to keep it short and sweet by saying something like "I've got THREE words for you!" she cheats and makes it four words. Or five. And then she STILL rattles on and on.

Randy is the only one I can stand.

First, Kris better not leave tonight. I'll be so pissed, and the judges better save him!

Second, I'm pissed bc my boyfriend and I watched on delay/DVR and missed Adam's performance completely!!!

Finally, isn't it so funny to look at Paula's face when Kara is talking? She has this "STFU you boring bitch...you're ruining this show and I'm so better than you" face! Seriously, watch everytime almost. She rolls her eyes, gives this look, gives Simon these "you see what I'm talking about" look...everytime Kara speaks.

Anyway - I hope Scott or Anoop go home tonight!

After the last couple of seasons where the final winner wasn't announced until AFTER the time the show was suppose to end, I just automatically add an extra 15 minutes to the show.

Danny, Adam, Allison were all great! Matt and Anook were ok, Lil, Kris and Scott were not so good. Scott was the worst! I'm afraid that Kris may go and he should not be the one going infact Kris should be in the top three/four IMO!

this is how I think it should playout based on talent .... Danny and Adam final top two! Allison and Kris in the top four: Lil and Matt in the top six and Anook and Scott should be the next two to go!

I think that Danny, Adam, Allison and Kris and maybe Matt and Lil could be recording artist. Unfortunately I don't think we have any super stars in the bunch. Adam is too over the top and will end up doing weird theatre, Danny, Kris, Matt and Lil will end up on the Christian charts. Allison I think could produce some good stuff but won't have much of a following because she's not commercial enough. Anoop and Scott have already way past their 15 minutes.

I enjoyed Danny quite a bit, but I don't think he stood out as much as he should have. Kris was kind of blah, which bummed me out but I don't want him to go home! Scott did have some sour notes that I didn't notice until the recap, but I love that song so I was singing along with him, lol. I liked Anoop's performance, but like Danny, I thought it lacked something more that I know he is capable of. Lil. *sigh* Didn't like it, and I am losing interest in her. Matt, wooohooohoo! Loved it! Hot! Loved the hat, loved the attitude, loved the stage presence. Allison was awesome and sang one of my favorite songs, while making it her own, but kept it close enough to the original that I still loved it and sang along. Adam was better tonight because of toning it down again, but it still wasn't worthy of all the damn glory the judges keep giving him.

Matt is so sexy, I love him. Kris too, but I agree his performance was so-so for me.

100% agree although Paula is not the only one to blame. Like last night, was it really necessary to bring up the "piano" argument he and Paula had with Scott weeks ago? They both need to stop tweaking each other. The pointless arguing and judge's banter is fun in moderation but this year it's out of hand. I thought the crayons and coloring was funny but it's also rude to the contestants to. I just watched an interview with Megan (who looks very good in that picture you posted, Kenny) on EW.com and she admitted that she and the other contestants find it rude that the judge's are talking to each other or screwing around (mostly Simon and Paula) while they perform. I'm shocked Simon is doing that because he never used to. He started the shit last year when he and Randy made it more about which one of them was right rather then focusing just on the contestant in front of the,. It almost comes off as him being bored. It's one thing to be playful and to pick on each other a bit but the screwing around and endless banter the judge's, especially Paula and Simon, subject us too really needs to stop. Part of me wonders if Paula starts shit in an effort to waste enough time so Kara won't be able to talk as much.

Speaking of Kara and Paula, I don't buy what Kara is saying. You can tell she and Paula hate each other. Paula is always making mean ass looks at her or turning her chair to her. Plus, I don't think Paula has ever adamantly denied tension with her and Kara.

Both women need to be told to get to the point and to shorten their critiques. The show should not be more about the judge's then the contestants and it is this year. It has to stop. Alot of it with Paula is because she spends too much time dancing and screwing around during some performances so she doesn't think or prepare what she will say when it's her turn. Kara does that a bit too only she pays more attention. Notice how both Randy and Simon don't dance or do anything and they are always quick and to the point with their comments. If the girls can't focus and collect their thoughts while dancing and messing around, then they shouldn't be dancing and messing around. Someone needs to tell the judge's to improve. They all are actually making good points at times and are a bit better then last year, especially Paula who is making some good points and actually being critical at times (maybe to keep up with Kara, perhaps?). Kara makes good points, even if she is repetitive alot of the time. They just need to keep the screwing around to a minimum and just make their points in a quicker manner. It's really that simple and I don't get why they have not grasped this. I'm hoping going several minutes over time last night will help them get the point since I can imagine they got alot of complaints. Hell, it screwed around with Fringe too.

Oh, and this goes for both Idol and DWTS, the audience really needs to just wait until the judge's speak before booing or cheering. I said this last week too because it wastes so much time. The judge can't speak or has to wait and then they try to settle down the audience and it just takes up so much time. I know you can't really control them but maybe Ryan should hold up his hand or do something to calm the audience. He does that when they are on the smaller performance set during top 36. I know it's easier to control the audience in a smaller setting but I think he can at least try to do something to help. The audience really should wait until the commenting is done. Once the judge is done talking, they can react before the next judge begins to speak and so on. That is how it used to be. Now they start reacting right away and the judge can't even talk. It's stupid. These people get paid to judge. LET THEM DO IT!!

Seacoast Online

‘Mad World’ singer Gary Jules calls Adam Lambert’s cover ‘unique and beautiful’

Jules, who’s famous for his own cover of the Tears for Fears song, calls Adam the most interesting contestant ‘Idol’ has ever had.

Gary Jules is a secret “American Idol” fan. So when Adam Lambert sang “Mad World” on Tuesday night’s show, the man who helped make that song famous was watching.

“I was actually sneakily watching it,” Jules told Seacoastonline by phone Wednesday from his home in Asheville, N.C. “I heard the piano line at the beginning — if you’re me, that means ‘time to wake up.’”

Jules didn’t know about the theme of the night — songs from the year the season eight top eight contestants were born. Or that Adam Lambert was born in 1982 and that meant the original Tears for Fears song, “Mad World,” was a possibility.

Still, Jules wasn’t surprised when he heard that piano.

“I said 'I knew he was going to do it.' I knew it! He’s cool and he’s kind of emo-y and has black hair and seems sensitive. That’s who would have that song in their lexicon,” Jules said. “He totally understood the vibe of it and the power of it and delivered it in a unique and beautiful way. ... I think Adam is straight-up the most interesting, for my personal taste, of anyone I’ve ever seen on the show.”

And this from a guy who’s been complimented by judge Simon Cowell — twice — and is practically related to season five contestant Kellie Pickler.

Jules’ cover of the Tears for Fears song was on his 2001 album “Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets” and was featured in the 2001 cult film “Donnie Darko.” His “Mad World,” with an arrangement by his best friend, Michael Andrews, earned the Christmas No. 1 spot on the U.K. charts in 2003.

This isn’t even his first brush with “Idol” fame. Or his second. Jules talked to Simon Cowell twice back in 2003 and the notoriously picky judge told Jules how much he loved his version of "Mad World." Jules didn’t recognize Cowell's name at the time, but six years later the same man would give a standing ovation to Lambert’s live version.

Then there’s the connection closer to home. Jules’ wife is from a very small town in North Carolina. “Of, like, four generations of her family, she’s the only one who ever left,” Jules said, “and her cousin’s best friend is Kellie Pickler.”

Jules met Pickler — who finished sixth on the fifth season of “Idol” — on his son’s first birthday, when she had just tried out for “American Idol.”

“I was thinking to myself, whatever, being from L.A.,” he said. “And then she killed it! And she became the most famous thing in that town. ... Because of that I watched her every night on the show. I was so fascinated by what she must’ve been going through.”

After that, he secretly watched every part of the show.

So when Lambert sang “Mad World” last night, he knew the reaction would be immediate.

“I had 2,400 e-mails in my inbox,” Jules said. He killed off most of them, but when his e-mail renewed there were immediately 400 more. “It was crazy.”

Many of the questions were about Lambert. Do they get along? Did Adam tell Jules he would be doing the song?

“I don’t know what it is, people kind of assume me and Adam Lambert must’ve rubbed elbows before ... (as if) he and I hanging out at Jack Nicholson’s house.”

(For the record, they’ve never met.)

Other questions were of a professional nature. Is this going to turn into something for you?

Jules said he doesn’t think of it that way anymore since the song has had such a long history, but the answer is yes and no.

“When it’s on ‘American Idol,’ if one in 1,000 listen to the rest of the songs on my MySpace and buy a record and cross a bridge into my stuff ... it’s the greatest gift ever.”

Since Jules is something of an Adam Lambert himself, having covered the Tears for Fears version, has he ever heard anything from the original performers?

“It was 2002 when my phone rang, driving down Melrose in Hollywood. I was working every day and night in a new singer/songwriter club and it was (Tears for Fears singer/songwriter) Roland Orzabal. I almost crashed.”

Orzabal told Jules that he and the band’s co-founder, Curt Smith, thought his version was “wonderful” and much closer to what they were thinking about when they wrote it.

“Since then we’ve sort of become friends,” Jules said. “We talk — with all of the new media we manage to stay in touch regularly.”

Jules said he and Mike Andrews, who did the music for “Donnie Darko,” were very much like Curt and Roland. “We got together in a bar in Hollywood, the four of us. It was awesome.”

So what would he say to Adam Lambert, as the latest member of that group?

“First of all, welcome to the club of people who are dealing with the power of that song.”

To Jules, the song sounds like it’s coming from a very alienated, sad person on the outside.

“I think the reason it’s so powerful is everybody from the kid getting beaten up every day, to the gay kid at the high school ... to the cheerleader dating the quarterback ... to the guy in a suit, feels their thing is hard and they feel alone in their experience on the planet. ... Regardless of who’s singing it, if it comes from that place, it can be a really powerful thing. I think Adam sang it from that place.”

Now that Jules is connected to “Idol” once again, he’s going to have to keep (not-so secretly) watching.

“It’s the same thing when I heard Kellie Pickler was on the show,” he said.

Since she’s actually coming back — for tonight’s results episode — the connection is even tighter.

“Are you kidding? I may have to get tickets to the show.”
