ANOTHER person with a sad story coming up next. They have had so many this season.

They actually had a few decent singers tonight.

I liked the young kid who sang that song by Train. He was completely adorable and very talented, IMO.

Definitely. They were unnecessarily harsh with him, but I think sometimes they do that to drum up sympathy and a fanbase, LoL.

There were two singers tonight (which I have forgotten their names) that I felt like they will end up only have one sound. It was the last girl (whose parents both died) and the girl that was going through a divorce and had the little boy. They both just seemed to me that they sounded good singing the one song they chose, but they won't go beyond that one sound.

The girl whose parents died was named Rose, and I absolutely couldn't stand her. Her voice wasn't very good at all and honestly, I'm just sick of all the sob stories. I know I shouldn't hold that against her, but it's worn very thin by now.

"My home was destroyed by a tornado! I'm blind! I have a deadly disease! I'm a young widow! My penis is too small! My father beats me senseless and my mother's dead!"

OMG. *rips hair out*

I didn't think that girl that lost both parents was very good either. They played it up in the preview like she was going to be really really good.

I am tired of all the sob stories too! I do think some of them get through out of sympathy.

^^Totally agree with that as well. Not only did I think they had the exact same sound, I didn't even think they were that good either. Too am tired of the sob stories. I really hope somethings change during Hollywood because right now there is nothing that I am excited about.

I forgot to comment on the girl who sounded like Amy Winehouse. I thought she was great! Very soulful voice.

Last night's episode was probably the best so far this season. Lots of good talent and much less of the unfunny bad auditions.

Less Strange Means More Singing on 'American Idol'

It was less about the strange and more about the singing as American Idol stopped off in Salt Lake City.

The show hit up the home of David Archuletta Wednesday in hopes of finding the next American Idol. And from what we saw, they very well might have.

Take Megan Corkrey for example. The recently divorced 23-year-old mom has great story, a great personality, a killer voice and — unlike so many others before her — she’s ORIGINAL. Her tattoo sleeve might make mothers everywhere want to cry, but one look at her made-for-a-Huggies-commercial son and even they’ll jump on the bandwagon.

Megan shouldn’t get to confidant though, as Frankie Jordan is sure to give her some stiff competition. Not only was Frankie also a talented 23-year-old single mom (was there a memo we missed?), but thanks to her, no one will ever have to wonder what Amy Winehouse would have been like if she HAD gone to rehab. Considering Frankie could practically pass for a Winehouse clone — in look and in voice — and opted to sing a Winehouse song, I’m not so sure she’s as unique as the judges made her out to be. But I definitely look forward to seeing what else she can do.

With all the talented women around, someone had to represent for the fellas in Salt Lake City, and who better to do that than David Osmond? Not only is he an Osmond but the guy’s basically a walking miracle, having comeback from being in a wheelchair due to his ongoing battle with M.S. And, he can sing!

What was strange about David’s audition though was the undeserved grief the judges gave him before putting him through. Simon basically called him ancient, Paula (yes, Paula) got on his case telling him he doesn’t seem like a frontman and Kara chimed in with, “When you do those runs it doesn’t really show us what kind of artist your are.” Pretty sure nearly everyone that’s made it on the show sang runs in there audition, including (ahem) Miss Kara herself when she decided to have a sing-off with the infamous bikini girl.

Maybe the judges just wanted to make sure David wasn’t planning on trying to sail through on his legacy. If his performance in Salt Lake was any indication, he won’t have to.

Chris Kirkham on the other hand tried just about every thing he could think of to make it through to Hollywood. Instead of bringing a lucky rabbit’s foot, Chris brought a man in a giant rabbit suit. Instead of showering Simon with praise, Chris showed up holding a popsicle stick fan and a t-shirt with his face on them. It’s too bad Chris just couldn’t really sing, but you have to be kind of sad they didn’t vote him through anyway. If this is what he came out with for his first audition just imagine what this kid would have done in Hollywood.

Unfortunately we won’t have to imagine what Austin Sisneros’ Hollywood experience would have been like, because somehow the deluded teen is headed there.

By the way this guy described his role as his senior class president he might think he’s the actual president. And by the way he practically brainwashed his way to Hollywood and claimed to “watch over everyone one” I’m voting him most likely to start a cult. It’s ok, though because Austin was auditioning to “inspire people everywhere to pursue their dreams.” Mission accomplished: We can all now dream that he’s in the next batch of rejects.

Of course, dreams or no dreams, Austin’s not the only one who should be worried right now. Even the best singers should start preparing for heartache as Hollywood looms near. Because without the strange, it’s about to get a lot easier to separate the singers from the stars.

---------------------------

Those last few paragraphs about Austin are just mean! I liked the kid!

Yeah I liked him too. So did my husband and he doesn't even like Idol. And they let alot of really stupid people that can't sing all that well thru.I just think Austin needs to pick better song choices.

I sort of felt the same thing as the article mentioned about David Osmond. It almost did seem that they were a bit harder on him because of his family. He is pretty much the same as other singer they put through who have been trying this all their life and didn't get the big break yet. On top of that he even had the sad story to go with it. He is one that I want to watch in Hollywood.

Last night was the best of the auditions so far. Wonder if the other cities just didn't have that much talent because I know at the end we would only hear about 25 or people getting yellow tickets. It always seems that those numbers were higher.

I agree. 25 people per city seems low, doesn't it?

The promo for tonight's episode looked good, and the announcer said something about they "saved the best for last" or something. I hope they have someone tonight who really blows me away.

Hollywood week looks great!

I loved Salt Lake City! Best audition so far!

I LOVED the young single mom/divorcee.. I also liked that young guy, the class president or something.. Osmond guy was okay too. The last girl was not as good as I thought she would be... also the Amy Winehouse double was good, but I wonder how she'd do with non-Amy songs.

I love how many good ones we've seen today!!

Pretty ho-hum show tonight.

There were a few decent singers, but none that really blew me away. I was quite annoyed at how they told a few people who were actually decent that they weren't good enough for Hollywood, but they gave others a ticket just for being silly and comedic. Stupid!

I can't believe they spent an entire segment on "comedic" auditions, like the iPod guy and the other dude with the weird metallic shirt.

Oh well. Thank God auditions are O-VAH!

yeah I felt that tonight's auditions were ridiculous! There were some auditions that I thought were pretty good that they didn't bring on to Hollywood they they let the freak from New York through because he could sing God Bless America, but his first song sucked!

Well I see why they put the two cities together because Puerto Rico only had 6 people get a golden ticket. I really don't know what it is this year but it doesn't seem like they are putting as many people through as in other years. Either the talent isn't there right now or we just haven't seen the really good ones and they are being saved for Hollywood week. Salt Lake City seemed to be the only place where there were some impressive singers.

There were only 300+ auditioners in Puerto Rico, LoL.

This last audition show was ridiculous. Putting two cities was a bad idea. They couldn't showcase ANY good talent. They focused too much on the "funny" ones.
