Well, I figured that would happen because it's hard to do much with these kind of songs this week, which is why I hated this theme because it usually is boring but somehow most of the performances tonight did not bore me. I think the fact that they picked songs I liked helped but I guess the talent just really made itself known tonight too. Maybe they all just picked great songs and that helped but, for whatever reason, it all worked out tonight on an interest level for me for the most part, surprisingly. I think the trouble Kris will have next week is that if he tries to slow a rock song down a bit, it can end up ruining certain songs. Some songs you can do that with but some you can't. That is the concern for next week for him. That and given how Kris' style usually is, if he tries to suit a rock song to his typical, slowed down style, he could be forgettable with people like Alison and Adam, both of whose specialty is rock stuff. That is the big concern for both him and Danny next week. Sure, Danny may rock the chorus and end of the song but next week the songs being picked will allow for that with everyone so he runs the risk of being predictable too since rock is really the theme for Adam and Alison to shine. Performance order will be key again as will song choice. |

As I mentioned, it was pretty obvious, at least to me, he was using reverse psychology tonight like he's been known to do, most notably in last year's finale. There is no way he would've liked Matt that much based on that performance and the way he picked at Kris and Alison reeked of him trying to get them more votes by bringing them down a few notches and overpraising Matt to make it seem he may be ok so that his fans get complacent in voting for him. I was expecting Matt to be thrown under the bus by all the judges like Lil last week and Castro last year but that did not happen. Simon decided to use the reverse psychology strategy and all indications are that it worked. He probably figured both Kris and Alison needed an additional boost too since they were going early in the night so that may have been why he went with what he did too. It's funny how transparent he's gotten LOL. I mean, you can tell when Simon really likes or hates something and I didn't get the feeling he liked Matt that much for real nor did I get the feeling he meant what he said about Kris and Alison. I love how analyzing the strategies of Simon, the other judges, and the show can sometimes be more interesting then some of the performances LOL. If you start out low on Dialidol once voting opens and don't seem to make your way upward much at all, your usually screwed. Matt has been down there since the beginning and has barely moved while the others have been stable in their positions too but they are in higher positions, which is the important thing. I think Matt is a lock to go home tomorrow though. I feel secure in that now, even though I had a pretty good feeling about this being it for him before tonight. Hell, I knew once he got the save that fans would pull him through to top 5 and the judge's would be nice to him to save face the week after the save and that this week would be his time to go. I like him but the other 4 belong in the top 4 and have earned it. Matt's time is up and it's a shame because he could've been so much better but he's been too inconsistent. The guy is talented though. |

So next week is "Rock" week - Well this should be Allison's week to shine. Adam will come out and do some over the top cheesy song and everyone will think he was awesome. He'll probably come to the stage from a lift or fly in extended from a wire. Adam is all theatrics and it's getting old! I agree that if Kris and Danny are still left it will be a tougher week! |

My boy Danny killed it last night!! WooHoo! I was so happy. He knocked it out of the park! I enjoyed Kris, Allison, and Matt (although, Matt's was a little rough in spots). I absolutely frickin' HATED Adam's performance!!! Just stay in musical theater where you belong! The guy is clearly talented, but MY GOSH. I am SO SICK of his over indulgence!! If he just stood on stage and sang with normal lighting and no theatrics, he would blend in with everyone else. I guess it is smart in a way, to be so over the top, because it gets him attention, but in no way is he the best singer, or the most marketable of the bunch. I swear, every week he gets his song and looks at the pages thinking, "ok, hmm, where can I insert my trademark scream?". Ugh. Sick of him. As much as some of you want Danny to be a shocking elimination (still can't understand why), I want ADAM to be a shocking elimination. Danny doesn't rely on a bunch of cheesy theater tricks, he can just SING. Adam, blah. He pisses me off so much because he will tone it way down one week, and I will actually enjoy him, then the next week he'll go right back to being obnoxious and I hate him more than I did before. Anyway, I'm sad to think that Matt will probably go home tonight, because I really like him, but I see that the others deserve to be there more. Phooey. Oh, and I really liked Jamie as the mentor!! I was so surprised!! |

I was so bored watching this episode. My God... I loved Alison. She was the best, IMO. Kris was good too, but I agree it was a bit safe. Matt was not good and will probably leave. He was way too low and while he was good during high notes, the song as a whole was not good. Danny was rough at the beginning, but was AMAZING when he hit chorus. He is my #2 tonight. Adam was horrible, as always, to me. When the music started and he started walking down the stairs, I kept thinking Chandler's transvestite father from Friends. The arrangement and the moves and the voice were so theatrical and just... no words. And my God, how come his skin doesn't fall off with all that make up?! Dude has more make up on his face than entire Hollywood on an Oscar Night. Judges all annoy me and I don't care what they say anymore. I usually agree with Simon and tonight he annoyed me as well. If it was a tactic, I really don't see how it would work, but whatever.. I remember I was watching bits and pieces of last season and that girl Syesha would get slammed all the time for being too theatrical, but Adam never does. He's God's gift to music. And I would buy Syesha's album much sooner than Adam's. And since there's only 5 of them, wouldn't they stop doing bottom 3 and do a bottom 2 now? In that case, my dream bottom 2 would be Matt and Adam, but I know it will be Matt/Kris or Matt/Alison. If it's any other combination, I will seriously be shocked. They seemed to be ok with Adam being theatrical from the very beginning. They all said he was at his audition, but they thought he was a great singer so they put him through. Just like Simon said to Randy last night about Adam being theatrical the whole time; so for them to complain about it now wouldn't make too much sense. |

But then the judges are hypocrites when they call other contestant indulgent. Adam has a whole lighting crew working on his performances alone. To me less is more! This is a vocal competition not the next American Broadway Star. |

I can see what you are saying. I just don't really pay any attention the lights and stuff since I just love his voice and find him entertaining. The judges show favoritism every season though, so that is nothing new. |

Actually, it's called 'American Idol'. Idols are normally those types of performers who get into magazines like Teen Beat and sell tons of Albums (oh... wait... we don't call them that anymore, do we?) and get all the fans and groupies screaming their heads off and the kids put posters of up in their rooms and crap. If we were really judging on vocal talent alone, only people capable of performing with the Metropolitan Opera would be contenders. It's about being a performer and entertainer as well as a singer. If we were going on singing talent alone, this show would be on PBS and everyone would look incredibly dour. |

I'm watching it now online.... So far I liked Kris and Allison..... Matt and Danny (who's singing as I post this :D ) are two performances I didn't really like. Since I'm not looking at the window with AI playing right now it sounds like Taylor singing. Adam is up next after they critique Danny who's head seems to be getting bigger and bigger on screen as they praise him..... :peek: |

Then they would be looking for the next "teen" idol .... Which Winner of American Idol was a performer and a singer! IYO ? |

Oy that performance of Adam's was something else and being able to watch it kinda close up on the computer screen I noticed spit flying from his mouth area a couple times. He did look like a demonic angel falling down from somewhere last night.... Maybe Taylor and Danny can do a duet tonight.... :roflol: |

Who's won other than Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood? This is season's probably the first time I've ever watched an episode of AI (which also stands for 'Artificial Inteligence'. Coincidence?) and I primarily do it for laughs since most of them are pretty bad and, IMO, it's all just once step above Kareoke night. To be honest, I probably wouldn't buy anything from any of them unless they remixed well (it's the only reason I can even stand to listen to screechy Clarkson. Her club remixes are usually pretty good). |

Neither Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson would have been called "the performers" in their groups! - Carrie was rather reserved next to Bo Brice and Kelly seemed reserved next to Justin. What Carrie and Kelly had was the best voice in the competition. The stage performance that both may have now has been developed - and neither one of them are over the top type performers. Taylor Hicks is the only one who was showy like Adam and he basically flopped. Why because he didn't have a great voice to match his stage persona! Similar to Adam - Adam has a big voice but is it commercial enough to listen to on the radio or i-pod? Take away all that "performance stuff that Adam does can he make it purely on his voice? I don't think so! |

^^I totally diagree. It is Adam's VOICE that I love. Sometimes I don't like it as well if he screeches too much, but overall I just love his voice! The fact that he is a good entertainer just adds to it. He could just sit there in a chair and sing and I would love it. Taylor Hicks isn't similar to Adam at all. Without the dancing and his personality he wouldn't have made it far at all. Taylor does not have a great voice. The only one this season that reminds of Taylor at all is Danny, but Danny is a better singer. |

ITA! I think Adam could have some Tonys in his future, but Grammys? I'm not so sure. |

Don't even joke about that   . Seriously, did you see him yelling out to the crowd his thank yous while Randy was beginning to comment on his performance? It was horrible. He obviously just tunes out the judge's comments most of the time. He just soaks in the cheering for him. He acts like the show is his own concert or something. Ugh. :hmmph: |

I liked the opening but I wonder if the them tossing around the word "shock" (Ryan said it too in the opening) means something. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part LOL. The Ford videos still suck. Simon just proved my theory right. He did the same thing the day after the finale last year. He said after watching it back, it wasn't what he said it was and that he was too hard on David Cook. Now, today he says he watched last night back and EVERYONE was good. He used his reverse psychology again to pimp up Kris and Alison and hurt Matt. He's so transparent LOL. I do agree that it was a good night overall and this top 5 is at least the right top 5 for the season and definitely one of the most talented. Who knows what will happen in the future but, at the moment, all is right overall. The group performance was ok. You could tell none of them liked doing that kind of music as is though. I liked the beginning with Alison coming down the stairs all flirty with the men. The rest was kind of dull because you could tell they weren't into the music until the end of the performance. I don't blame them. I don't like it all that much either, which is why I dreaded the theme this week. It usually depends on the song with this kind of music for me. |
