Kara DioGuardi: I May Not Be Back on Idol Next Season

May 1, 2009

Though she’s only appeared on one season of American Idol, judge Kara DioGuardi says it may be her last.

“I’m only here for one season,” DioGuardi told TV Guide Magazine. “That’s what we’ve discussed. So we’ll see what happens.”

Still, the songwriter has nothing but positive things to say about the show, and is hopeful that they’ll keep her on in the future.

“My life has become extremely exciting and I am so excited for this opportunity,” she says. “I feel grateful to America that they let me grow and they let me find my groove on the show and that they were patient. And hopefully I haven’t disappointed them. It’s been a scary experience at times.”

Fellow judge Simon Cowell told the magazine that he thought that she’d be back, but admitted he wasn’t sure.

“The only say I have is about Ryan, Randy and Paula,” he said. “I’ve always made it clear that I wouldn’t like to do the show without them. So that’s all I’m really concerned about.”

For now, DioGuardi, who has more than 100 hit singles to her name, has more pressing things to think about: whether the song she wrote for the winner to sing will be picked! –Lesley Messer

I think doing duets next week is the show's way of allowing everyone to perform two songs without running overtime. Obviously the judges (ahem -- Kara) still haven't learned how to shut their mouths long enough to keep the show from running long.

I pray to God they go back to three judges only next year.

Next week's mentor (Slash) has posted this on his MySpace:

"Hey all, as you may or may not know, the producers for American Idol have asked me to be the mentor for 'Rock Week' next week. I was reluctant at 1st, but they offered me the freedom to do it however I wanted.

More importantly, there are a few singers this year who are really impressive. Its the 1st time any AI line-up has really caught my attention.

The approach I'm taking is different than usual on the show, & I'm going to make this as Rock & Roll an American Idol as possible, wish me luck!"

He also Twittered this:

"The contestants from AI picked some really cool songs for next week, thank god!"

I just caught up this week - and OMG! I couldn't believe that Kris and Adam were in the bottom 2!

I'm sooooo over Danny Gokey. I hope he goes next - I would love to see Kris, Adam, and Alison in the Top 3! I think those 3 are artists - Danny is just a singer.

I still love Kara. Sure, she annoys me sometimes with her comments, but which judge doesn't annoy me? lol Though, I would like to go back to 3 judges next year, simply because this is taking up more time.

And I love the duets idea. We will see how they harmonize and stuff.. Should be really good or just horribly bad :D

Nigel Lythgoe Says that Idol Can Change the "Bottom 3" if They Want

Now that Nigel Lythgoe has been kicked to the curb by Idol, the former Executive Producer has no problem spilling secrets every now and then. And he just spilled one that definitely questions the show's legitimacy. Nigel tells the New York Post that Telescope, the company that coutns Idol votes, just lets the producers know the "bottom 3" but that they don't actually say who had the second or third lowest vote count. It's just a group thing along with who is going home. Nigel says that because of this, the producers can have a contestant declared safe first, but that they may not have had more votes than the two people standing in danger.

"It doesn't mean the show won't take some liberty with the order that the other two low-vote receiving contestants are told to sit down. Since 'Idol' never specifically states who the second and third lowest vote-getters are, any conclusions that the audience draws from the order that they're sent to the safe stand is purely up to the public at home."

We call bullshit. If Idol can easily manipulate the bottom 3 like that, there's no way the show doesn't manipulate everything else. So the Adam Lambert in the bottom 2 scenario was just to scare people into voting him for the win of course. Keep spilling those secrets, Nigel. We'll eventually prove that this show is a joke.

In the entire history of the show, has anyone ever sung a song completely acapella, with no music whatsoever? That might be a good idea this week for Kris or Allison. They're the underdogs and they need to do something completely unexpected and new to steal some of the shine away from Danny and Adam. An acapella song would definitely win votes (as long as they have the vocals to back it up).

Not really surprised they manipulate the results on who is actually in the bottom 3. Simply because we never know how may actual votes the bottom people get. They probably see who is in the bottom and then arrange the other two to make it a bit shocking.

Just saw it on E! television on their news scroll. Very sad news. It is nice that David was able to spend some time with him to say goodbye. It said his brother had been fighting this for 11 years. I think that is just amazing that he was able to fight as long as he did.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Cook family.
