YES!

I really loved DAYS over the holidays this year. It has been exciting and fun. I love the Days of Nicole's Life. LOL. And I love me some Melanie too. I have just really been enjoying the show more in the last month than I did the majority of 2008 and pretty much all of 2007. I am glad the show got a boost.

It's a tough time for the show, But I think it's handling it well. I love it all except for BOPE.

Good job, DAYS!

Congrats, DAYS. I don't think you deserve it in the least, but congrats, regardless.

I honestly think it's starting to pick up b/c it is the last few weeks of John and Marlena. DaytimeConfidential.com predicted the ratings would spike in the last few weeks that they are on. I guess we will see after they depart.

I really think the Nicole storyline is getting viewers to tune into the show and keeping them around..It really is the first big story they've done on the show that will have longlasting effects in like forever...Granted it has flaws and is a little overexposed...Its actually pretty interesting..I just wish Dena and Whitsell could make the other storylines as interesting..

I think the reason DAYS is succesfull in the ratings right now (or atleast was during holidays) is the simplicity of the stories. I finally downloaded some OLTL episodes during holidays to check what are you so excited about, but except the Todd/Marty part I knew something from here, it was totally impossible for me to get into the show, understand how the characters are linked and who is who.

On the other side, Tomlin makes sure everything is crystal clear even before the main theme. Here are Phillip/Stephanie and here is Melanie, who wants to split them. Here is Lucas looking for his fiance and look, here is his fiance about to kiss with some older doc. Here is a pregnant woman arguing with her doctor, oh I see, so she isnīt really pregnant she is just pretending to be and wants the doctor to get her a new baby. Etc, Etc.

You donīt have to know anything about the 40 years history of the show or how complicated is the past between some characters. You immediately understand what the story is about and can start watch.

When I saw that the ratings were based on 4 days the first thing I thought of was that if the numbers had gone down Corday would have issued a statement stating they didn't count because it was only for 4 days but since they went up, all is good..........lol.

Seriously though, congrats to Days.

They didnīt count Wednesday and it was one of the strongest day for them, so I donīt think thatīs the case. There are probably some clear rules what days are counted and what not, no matter what the network wants.

There is no doubt in my mind that the increase in ratings is due to the passion boys coming to Days - that 12 to 17 demo #1 I think proves it. For some reason girls in that age range liked Passion's .. i for one have only watched that show a couple of times and that's because my teenage girls were watching it.

I think you're reading far too much into a holiday spike. Look up the last 10 years and DAYS has always gained at least .2 over the X-mas/New Year period. It's all very well gaining among teen girls/men/working women but most of these viewers will be unavailable come sweeps month. I'd wait for the late Jan/early Feb numbers before making these kinds of inferences.

Definitely. But you cannot deny there is a clear upswing trend the last few months. The show first stabilized sometime around sweeps and eventually started slowly gain. And I think this holiday uspwing is clearly indicating the show is friendly towards new and/or casual viewer right now because otherwise they would change the channel. And itīs not vet nostalgy either as the numbers for the vet heavy christmas shows had much worse numbers than new year eve stuff, which was very plot driven this year and featured the usual combination of the three main stories.

Gaining .1 over 15 weeks doesn't really qualify as an "upswing". As I said, if they sustain December's 2.1-2.3 range into Feb (and more importantly- March Sweeps), then we can talk about substantive gains. I'm not disputing your argument per se but just feel it doesn't (yet) have statistical support.

EXACTLY, Jane.
My mom and I watched over the holidays and she was hooked on it...and she hasn't watched in years. She caught on really quickly because of just what you said.
She immediately figured out Nicole and was hooked on what will happen. She also likes Chloe betraying Lucas with the doctor.

I am so happy for Days and the bump in ratings! I am curious however, to see how this week does in the ratings.

I think the story is in the demographics - plus Days is the only soap that did not lose viewer's last year. Days is holding steady and strong in those key demographics that daytime advertiser's like. Day's is kicking butt against the ABC soaps. No wonder ABC was thinking about dropping AMC and replacing it with Days. That threat alone may have kept Days at NBC for awhile.

I don't think the spike has to do with John and Marlena. I think it just has to do with a combo of the holidays, what Kev said, and what Jane said.

- People were home so they were able to watch.
- This Nicole storyline is actually a big, good storyline like Kev said
- The show is a lot more focused lately like jane said

John and Marlena weren't even featured a lot this week.

I've always assumed PASSIONS and DAYS shared the same viewers. Or at least they did in the beginning.

Very true that you can't necessarily call it an "upswing." However, I think the key issue for me here is that many have been expecting the show to drop in the ratings, not stablize and hold in the 2.0 area. Speaking only for myself, the only story/couple that interests me right now is EJ and Nicole. The show has so many flaws right now that it's hard to even snark about. That being the case, I would expect to see the ratings lower than they are, regardless of holidays, Passions actors, John and Marlena leaving, or any other factor. I will be very curious to see what happens after the holidays, as these stories--excuse me, "stories"--build.
