They're still lower than they were a year ago in the important demos. I think it's a little early to be praising Days. If there's a plus sign in that second parenthetical for 18-49 or 18-34 by the end of the month, then there's reason to cheer. And I'll be cheering along with everybody else, believe me.

Definitely. But you cannot deny there is a clear upswing trend the last few months. The show first stabilized sometime around sweeps and eventually started slowly gain.

Gaining .1 over 15 weeks doesn't really qualify as an "upswing". As I said, if they sustain December's 2.1-2.3 range into Feb (and more importantly- March Sweeps), then we can talk about substantive gains. I'm not disputing your argument per se but just feel it doesn't (yet) have statistical support.

Very true that you can't necessarily call it an "upswing." However, I think the key issue for me here is that many have been expecting the show to drop in the ratings, not stablize and hold in the 2.0 area. Speaking only for myself, the only story/couple that interests me right now is EJ and Nicole. The show has so many flaws right now that it's hard to even snark about. That being the case, I would expect to see the ratings lower than they are, regardless of holidays, Passions actors, John and Marlena leaving, or any other factor. I will be very curious to see what happens after the holidays, as these stories--excuse me, "stories"--build.
Look at the big picture though for all the soaps. The numbers suck and result in less advertising revenue which means less for the networks. If the most positive thing we can say is that Days is holding at 2.0, then that is a very sad commentary on the state of the show and the genre. I predict that within 2 years we will lose 3 soaps and within 5 the rest of them, at least in terms of the standard networks.

I fully expect that Days will lose some viewers after J&M leave, some of whom because they are on the net have already made up their mind and others who will decide after the way they are being written out. IMO, Days is missing a huge opprotunity to get a spike by writing a kickass departure for J&M complete with sweeping love scene and a wedding. Instead they are sending one of the characters who was considered a hero for decades away as an invalid. Whether or not enough people turn off the show to make a dent in the ratings remains to be seen.

^^^ Exactly. It's scary when the best part of the ratings is stabillity.

I will agree that Days is more focused, and is glad for its bump(sorry about OLTL going down though, but it didn't crash and burn so its fine). Its not perfect perfect and I think Higley needs to go, but during 2008, I didn't watch regularly....up until maybe November-December, things were EVERYWHERE. It was so confusing and hard to understand, everytime I tuned in I was lost, because of how many times stories switched and that people switched pairings.

Ever since Tomlin/Whitesell came in, I've noticed things are more focused, and easier to understand and get into if you've tuned out for awhile. Maybe its just that Higley and them don't struggle as much as she and Scott did, or that they just can apply more focus and solid stories than she can, but thats one better thing about Days nowdays.

^ My face watching DAYS

I am really enjoying DAYS right now...mainly because I am spoiler free and have for the most part stayed away from negativity surrounding the show.

I am very happy to see the show on the + side of 3 million viewers again...lets hope it remains there.

I am going to predict that the ratings don't move an inch when J&M leave the show.

Nielsen viewers that are STILL watching DAYS I firmly believe are non-fanbase fans...in other words I don't feel they watch for one couple and one couple alone (those fans have bolted over the last 5-10 years) and will not quit because J&M are gone.

Don't get me wrong...I am VERY VERY upset that J&M have been axed, but I will not quit the show because of it.
