Regardless, I don't understand his little tease that "one never knows what will happen in the future."
I think I do. (Scary.) I think I've posted this before, but it's clear to me that Corday wants to lose the actors but keep their fans.
That's exactly it. Corday is so transparent, and he probably thinks he's so clever.

He really is transparent. That's why I'm so glad we're getting these little stories like NBC thanking Deidre for her years of service, or the stage manager getting choked up during D&D's last scene. Hopefully this will help people see right through Corday's garbage.

His 'interview' made no sense!
Really, he's such a rambling moron.

"I'm firing them because we don't have the money for them. No, no... that's not it! I'm firing them because the characters are played out and need rest. No, actually, it's because we can't afford a big cast. But it's not financial at all. The characters just suck and need to disappear forever. Actually, nevermind! I want them back and refuse to say goodbye. I just can't bring them back right now because we can't afford them... er, I mean, the characters are tired. Have a nice day! P.S. they'll be back. Nevermind, no they won't."
I just spit my soda out reading this. I am literally ROFLMAO!
This is the best posting all day! Thanks for the laugh!

Thanks for posting Ellie.
Each day I think I cannot ossibly hate this man more then I do.. But each day I find that I can.

These are the things that struck me (And made me want to strike him)
They needed to retire John and Marlena to make room for other stories... Oh yes , there is nothing quite so compelling as watching Dr Perv and Chloe maul eachother with the porn music in the background .. and then show over and over and over flashbacks of the maulings.. :headbang:

There is little more compeling then watching Kate, Lucas, Philip seem oblivious to all the looks, and vansihing acts between Dr Perv and Chloe, Or hear outstanding lines being uttered by Dr Taylor like."Do you feel lucky? Do you" Isnt that from a Clint Eastwood film? Nothing like recylcled dialog .
:wtf:
And lets not forget the excitement that our dear Melanie brings, I could maybe tolerate her if she was in middle school.. But she and her frumpy wierd clothes leave me feeling disturbed.

Frankly I cant think of even **1** compelling story.. Even the Jarlena story is so fractured and anticlimatic they dont even have enough screentime to show off the amazing chemistry they have.
:frustration:
The other thing mentioned. about the cake and party.

Duhhhh.. They are hurt and angry, ofcourse they dont want a party, they have been shit on and in the worst possible way.. whats to celebrate? Their History we will always have that as will they, That will live on forever, The Cast no doubt (Atleast the vets) im sure understood their need to simply leave without fake smiles and pictures. Sour grapes? Maybe Im sure they had bile in their mouths all day. They deserve to feel bitter.

And Finally.
Corday thinks this is a "Happy Ending" For real ?? The man truly is insane.. Nothing happy about it, We all expected John to remember eventually though I expected a bit more drama and romance, evn I never thought this could be done so badly, but it sounds to me as though even this is written very poorly and without the drama the story deserves..After Marlena tells them about their life John says "I remember" .. He does not even speak to his son from what I read, and they get hitched in the "Romantic setting of a hospital room"....Barf.... :puke:
How many times is it now that they have had these final hospital scenes?

This interview is a slap in the face.. The story is a kick in the gut.. And it all culminates into death.
Death of my viewership, enjoyment, and ulitamatly Days of our lives.

I can only Imagine the thoughts Dee and Drake truly have about all of this, Drake has been silent and Dee spoke like a trooper.. I hope we hear from them both soon about how they really feel.

Im starting a campaign to get Drake and (hopefully) Dee on another soap.. I dont want them to fade away.. Its hard to even imagine

As many of these Corday interviews as I read, I still find my jaw on the floor. It's like listening to someone speaking Pig Latin for forty minutes straight. Kosmo Kramer on crystal meth. THIS guy's story is the one I really want to hear. Seriously, I want somebody to write the biography of Ken Corday. If they can get him away from the corner with his Tinker Toys long enough to figure out how the hell his mind works since he inherited this show. Madman.

As for the publicist? She jumped off that sinking ship. And it shows.

SOD should be ASHAMED of themselves. This isn't journalism. This is giving a six-year old a microphone and telling them to "talk into the mic for as long you want, sweetheart". Can somebody ask a real question. Please? What's he going to do - pull coverage of his DYING SHOW from your magazine? Please. This isn't 1993. He knows better.

Then again, maybe he doesn't.

LOL!! I'm sitting here laughing at your post.

Sometimes I think that SOD just lets him talk and prints what he says verbatim to prove a point.

So Hall and Hogestyn weren't fired because of financial reason? Corday pretty much just threw Higley and the creative department under the bus with that line. This was a creative decision. NBC forced a smaller cast on them, so everyone had to decide who was getting cut. Higley probably threw John and Marlena's names in that hat because she clearly can't write for them. That's the situation I'm seeing this as. She's proven that the past year. She doesn't get them, as individuals or as a couple. Why write for them then? I don't fault Higley for wanting to be rid of John and Marlena. Why would you want to write for a couple you don't like? In my old fan fiction, I wrote out Bo and Hope because I'm not a fan of theirs. And instead of just having them sit on the sidelines, I got rid of them. This time around, I'm getting rid of John and Marlena because I can't think of any stories for them right now. I understand why they're getting rid of the computers, creatively.

I am somewhat disappointed to learn Hall and Hogestyn declined a cake. I'm not calling them out on being bitter, but declining that offer, does make them sound a little upset. And they have everyone reason to be, don't get me wrong.
Aw, you'll have to change your very pretty banner then :(

Thanks, Ellie. It sounds like Corday can't make up his mind whether it was budgetary or "creative". Not that it matters. His show is going down and he knows it. And I can't wait for it to happen now.

Thanks Ellie. So it was a budget issue, but it wasn't a budget issue. That sounds like typical Corday. I'm not sure the guy could give a straight answer if his life depended on it.

I'm still convinced that he has plans for bringing them back. Whether it will actually happen is a whole other story. And you gotta love the "they leave happily" remark. Paralyzed from the neck down, but happy.
I actually understand what he is trying to say. Itīs mainly budget because if they had enough money to keep them they wouldnīt have to solve this problem at all. But because the demanded cuts they had to reevalute the cast and decide what characters/couples they want to keep and who can be let go. And thatīs creative decision. If they had some big story for Jarlena, letīs say something like another possesion, they would find a way to keep them the same like Tomlin found a way (and money) to keep JKJ.
John getting his memory back WAS a big story. One they refused to tell.

Thanks Ellie. I hate Corday and ITA with the others if that's all he can come up with, he should just shut up. He didn't say anything new from what he said when he fired them. These two actors worked for him for all those years and he's more concerned about himself and how hard it was for HIM! For once be gracious and stop all the ridiculous double talk. He can't actually believe this is a happy ending, can he? And as far as having no story for them, as they leave they have more story to tell (dealing with John's paralysis and being apart for over a year, getting revenge etc) than most of the characters left on the canvas.
LOL that is so true! I'm sure I'll be reading a lot of fanfiction that takes place after they leave town. And of course it will be unlike anything Higley can pull out of her arse.

He'd have done much better to just pick a reason (or explain how they're related- I think viewers get that things can be complicated) and at least give the impression there's some kind of direction behind-the-scenes. You made creative decisions based on a new financial reality. These are the stories you're choosing to tell, the characters you want to tell them with, and you chose to fire two of your stars. If you believe at all in the product you're making, just own the decisions. And if you think you made a bad move, stay out of the press until you can at least fake confidence- nobody really needs to hear from Ken Corday, especially with a track record of saying the exact opposite of what happens.
