LIMELIGHT The McG-produced "Limelight," which will be directed by David Semel, also hails from WBTV. Gordon's "Empire State," is produced by ABC Studios." "Limelight," written by K.J. Steinberg, is a soap set around the teachers and students of a performing arts college in New York City. Loosely based on the experiences of hip-hop producer Pharrell Williams of The Neptunes fame, it is described as a blend of contemporary music and dance set against the dreams, hopes, and struggles of their personal lives. McG, Steinberg, Semel and Leonard Goldberg are exec producing the pilot, co-produced with McG's Wonderland Sound and Vision. Peter Johnson is co-exec producing, with Williams serving as consulting producer. The project has been in the works for two years. It was originally set up at ABC in the fall of 2007 with writer David S. Rosenthal attached. "Limelight" joins another music-themed high school drama, Fox's upcoming series "Glee," from "Nip/Tuck" creator Ryan Murphy EMPIRE STATE Written by Michael Seitzman from a story by Seitzman and Jeff Reiner, "Empire State" revolves around two families -- one of blue collar iron workers and the other of the wealthy real estate tycoons that run them -- who collide in present day Manhattan when a Romeo and Juliet romance occurs. Empire State sounds like it could be good. I'm not so sure about Limelight, though. |

The both sound...overdone? I feel like that's all been done. I guess the execution will be where it counts. It's weird these are ABC. I get the CW feel from them! |

I'm all for more Prime Time soaps, but these just sound like Central Park West and Fame. Really "been there, done that". |
