Agree Kev and even after the finals are released it should still be at 26 million, which is great.

That's great? Do post-Super Bowl shows usually have that bad retention?

I really hope tonight's 3D Chuck gets a nice boast..There were some great promos for it during the game..And i was working at the bar and lots of people were talking about having their 3D glasses already to watch Chuck..Its a great stunt idea and i hope it pays off for them..

Okay, finals have been released and it's not so good for The Office. It's the lowest rated post superbowl show and will not even finish #2 for the week. Americal Idol will be #2

Super Bowl XLIII 95.4 million
The Office 22 million

---------------------
2008 – House – 29.1 million
2007 – Criminal Minds – 26.1 million
2006 – Grey’s Anatomy – 37.8 million
2005 – The Simpsons – 23.1 million
2004 – Survivor All-Stars – 33.5 million

Who gives a shit if it didn't retain so and so? They had 22 million viewers watching the show. The real test is "Did the Office hook enough people in to influence the new episode's ratings this Thursday?"

NBC gives a shit I'm sure, especially when they were banking on it pulling much bigger numbers.

Here's NBC's spin from Futoncritic.com

'THE OFFICE' SCORES RECORD RATINGS FOLLOWING SUPER BOWL XLIII

THE SPECIAL ONE-HOUR EPISODE OF 'THE OFFICE' HITS NEW SERIES HIGHS IN ALL KEY MEASURES, AND DELIVERS THE TOP RESULTS FOR ANY NBC ENTERTAINMENT TELECAST SINCE MAY 2004

AN AVERAGE 22.0 MILLION PERSONS WATCHED 'THE OFFICE,' WITH AN ESTIMATED 37.7 MILLION WATCHING ALL OR PART OF THE TELECAST

Universal City, Calif. February 2, 2009 Last night, the special one-hour telecast of "The Office," which aired following NBC Sports' coverage of Super Bowl XLIII, set new ratings records for the award-winning comedy, according to time zone-adjusted "fast national" "live plus same day" viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.

Sunday from 10:40-11:40 p.m. ET, "The Office" averaged a 10.6 rating in adults 18-49 and 22.0 million viewers overall. This marks a new series record for "The Office" and the highest 18-49 rating and biggest overall viewership for any NBC entertainment telecast in more than four and a half years (since the May 13, 2004 telecast of "ER").

An estimated 37.7 million persons watched all or part of Sunday's telecast of "The Office" (six minutes or more).

In adults 18-34, "The Office" delivered a 12.5 rating last night, making it the top-rated entertainment telecast of the season in that valuable demographic. In adults 18-49, Sunday's telecast of "The Office" is the #3 entertainment telecast of the season on any network, behind only the Tuesday and Wednesday season premieres of "American Idol."

The 10.6 rating in adults 18-49 and 22.0 million viewers overall for Sunday's telecast of "The Office" roughly doubled the show's prior "live plus same day" record numbers (a 5.1 rating in adults 18-49, 11.2 million viewers overall).

Since its original debut on NBC in March 2005, "The Office" has established itself as one of television's most-honored comedy series, having earned such awards as the 2006 Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, the 2006 Peabody Award, the 2006 and 2009 AFI Honors, the Producers Guild Award, the Writers Guild Award, the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy and the Television Critic's Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy.

Note that all national ratings are "live plus same day" unless otherwise indicated.

Well, putting it into context, NBC is a a network in trouble so I would think they will be ok with these numbers. That and it's a sitcom and it's a sitcom that I believe you need an acquired taste for so I don't think the expectation of this show pulling in House-like numbers are there. I'm just using House as an example but, from what I recall, don't drama's usually do better in post-Super Bowl slots? I think sitcoms are hard because very few are currently well-liked universally. The Office and 30 Rock many either like or hate in my experience so I can't see a large number of people making it appointment TV after the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl itself was such a good game that I think many may not have even cared to watch what followed the game. Sometimes as a sports fan you continue to follow the game coverage elsewhere or end up talking with whoever your watching the game with and forgetting about anything else. If people were watching in bars, they may have changed the channel afterward too.

I also would be curious to see the DVR numbers. Chances are many may have been out watching this game so people may have recorded it.

I don't get caught up in retention for something like the Super Bowl and if NBC expected something bigger then this it just further cements the reasons why they are in the toilet right now. They need to start thinking realistically LOL.

30 million viewers is HUGE for the Office.

But last night's episode was a little blah. The first few minutes were HILARIOUS, but the rest of it was all serious and corny and sad.

The first few minutes were probably the funniest i've seen on that show...But i also enjoyed the roast..Such a great idea for the episode..I didn't really care for Jack Black's movie bit though..It just seemed out of place..My roommate liked that part though..

The episode was good, I thought. But Jack Black's movie thing was seriously out of place and it was an obvious case of, I guess, stunt casting? Cameoing? Something like that.

The beginning was great, the Jim/Pam storyline was decent, and the roast and onward did pretty good ending the show.
