Really sad... I hope she goes peacefully, if it comes to that.

So is it offical that Days is going off the air? Is over? done??
No DAYS is not cancelled.

The show just had its contract renewed by NBC, I believe a month or 2 ago.
Thanks for telling me! Gotta get a new TV and so I just read whats going on for noW!!

OMG! I just found an archived interview with Frances (the TV Legends series on youtube) from 2003. There are three long segments, and here's the link to the first:

Don't know if anyone else has seen this. Somehow I missed it. And, wow, do I miss her these days!

The most interesting part is her admitting that she think Susan Seaforth Hayes hates her!

INTERVIEWER
Describe your co-star, Macdonald Carey.

FRANCES
Oh, he’s dead.

INTERVIEWER
What was he like?

FRANCES
[cracks up] Don’t laugh. I’m sorry. That sounded awful. [keeps laughing] The NBC people are over there laughing, saying, “She said, ‘He’s dead.’” You don’t say things like that, do you? [laughs] All right. . . . What did you ask?

INTERVIEWER
What was he like to work with?

FRANCES
He . . . he had a wonderful presence on the air. Great authority and nice voice and nice appearance.

INTERVIEWER
What was he like personally?

FRANCES
Well, this isn’t personal time. [laughs] I haven’t given you my personal evaluation of any people here.

INTERVIEWER
Were you friends off the set?

FRANCES
Oh, sure. We got along just fine. Yes. But he was a . . . he was a very amiable person. But he was a very good, steady person on the show, you know.

INTERVIEWER
Talk about working with some of the other creators, such as Betty Corday.

FRANCES
Oh, Betty I just loved. But that’s . . . you know . . . she was so interested in it. And she was . . . she was always . . . she had been very good at NBC. She had worked at NBC. And I remember doing great books for her . . . some of those. She just . . . . It seemed as if she was just born doing that kind of work. She was good.

INTERVIEWER
How about Irna Phillips?

FRANCES
I never met her. Irna sent a message to me between one of the other shows that she did. I did this. But when I had finished the other show, and it turned out something . . . I’ve forgotten which one of the other shows, she said, “You just tell Miss Reid that she will never work for me again.” So I did this show. This was Irna’s too. But she was extraordinary. Just extraordinary. And a mind that she could think up these plots, day after day, and for two shows! You know, she was extraordinary. I don’t know how people get to be that way. Just wonderful.

INTERVIEWER
How about Allan Chase?

FRANCES
Who?

INTERVIEWER
Did you know Allan Chase, one of the other creators?

FRANCES
Did you?

INTERVIEWER
Not personally.

FRANCES
He’s a creator? Oh. Well, congratulations.

INTERVIEWER
What about Susan Seaforth Hayes?

FRANCES
Well, that's one that I haven't had good relations with. And I don't know why. So if you can find out . . . . I'll be very grateful. I've tried everything. She doesn't like me.

Just wanted to add a few more quotes from Frances (from 2003). I thought these were fun. [I thought the interviewer seemed annoyed because Frances couldn't remember a lot of names and dates, and sometimes contradicted the interviewer. But she kept pushing for dates and names and didn't utilize Frances's strengths in the interview. She also pushed too long when it was obvious Frances was tiring out.]

INTERVIEWER
John Clarke.

FRANCES
John Clarke is a very good actor. Have you seen him? He’s very good. That’s all I can say.

INTERVIEWER
Has he been on the show as long as you have?

FRANCES
Yes, he’s my son Mickey. And now he looks so old, I look at him as my contemporary. You know, I . . . I’m going to a party, and Mickey’s going to escort me.

INTERVIEWER
What about Kristian Alfonso?

FRANCES
Oh, Kristian’s darling. She’s just darling. She works hard and . . . all the things you’d want.

INTERVIEWER
Maree Cheatham. She portrayed Marie Horton.

FRANCES
I loved Maree. That’s my daughter Marie. I refer to her as my daughter Marie. I’ve had the most wonderful luck working with some of these people on the show.

INTERVIEWER
Susan Seaforth Hayes.

FRANCES
Well, that’s one of them that I haven’t had good relations with. And I don’t . . . I don’t know why. So if you can find out, I’ll be very grateful. I’ve tried everything. She just doesn’t like me.

INTERVIEWER
Oh, I don’t believe that.

FRANCES
It’s awful to think that somebody wouldn’t like me, isn’t it? [laughs]

INTERVIEWER
I just don’t believe it. Well, what about Bill Hayes?

FRANCES
Oh, he’s darling. He’s really good and really takes such emotional interest. He’s . . . he’s really wonderful.

INTERVIEWER
Melissa Reeves.

FRANCES
Ah! I love her. There’s nobody there now, I think, that I don’t just love. She’s so cute. She’s a cutie. And she’s been an actress ever since she was a baby, you know. And she’s so interested in everything she does. And she’s so interested in being good and thorough, and she’s not light and flip about it. She’s really interested, I think, too.

INTERVIEWER
How about Suzanne Rogers?

FRANCES
Suzanne is a dear. She’s a dancer, and, uh . . . she has an adjustment that dancers have. She has a little difference, a little edge on. It’s nice having her there.

INTERVIEWER
How about John Aniston?

FRANCES
[thinks about it] Is he there?

INTERVIEWER
Victor Kiriakis.

FRANCES
Oh! Oh! What did you call his name? John Aniston? Is that what you said? John Aniston? Oh, he’s funny. He’s a witty man. And he has funny things to say when things get tense.

INTERVIEWER
What about Matthew Ashford?

FRANCES
He’s just heaven. He’s a wonderful actor and is a wonderful man. You see, we’re really a very happy bunch. There’s hardly a stinker there.

INTERVIEWER
Do you often interact with your castmates off the set?

FRANCES
No. Very seldom. I used to, when the kids were young. I used to have them out here often.

INTERVIEWER
How about Deidre Hall?

FRANCES
Deidre Hall is fine. She’s a hard worker, and she’s . . . you know, she’s holding this thing together.

INTERVIEWER
Drake Hogestyn?

FRANCES
Drake? Oh, he’s a very hard-working man. He’s very intelligent and a hard worker.

INTERVIEWER
Peggy McCay.

FRANCES
Peggy is . . . whoo! Peggy is . . . you know, she’s very “with it.” She’s a character. She’s fine.

INTERVIEWER
Joseph Mascolo?

FRANCES
He’s not there anymore. I’d be crossing into . . . . [to the NBC people] Wouldn’t I be crossing into those other people’s territory if I talked about Joe?

INTERVIEWER
What was he like to work with?

FRANCES
I never worked with him. [laughs] He was always on the show. He was fun to have around. But I never had a scene with Joe.

INTERVIEWER
How about Stephen Nichols? Do you recall working with him when he used to be on the show?

FRANCES
Oh, my word. Oh, he was a . . . he was a very intense actor. I hadn’t been through that . . . I hadn’t been through that kind of thing for years. Yeah.

INTERVIEWER
What about Genie Francis?

FRANCES
She’s not on the show.

INTERVIEWER
But she was on the show in the ’80s.

FRANCES
Oh, she’s a sweet-tempered lady.

INTERVIEWER
What about Frank Parker? Shawn Brady?

FRANCES
Oh, yes. He’s fine. He’s just fine. He . . . he loves the show. He loves doing it. It’s good having him around.

INTERVIEWER
What about Arleen Sorkin?

FRANCES
Where is Arleen now? She disappeared, as far as I’m concerned. She was so funny. She had the most wonderful, wry sense of humor. She’s lovely.

INTERVIEWER
And the last one, Louise Sorel.

FRANCES
Oh, she’s crazy. She’s one of the best actresses we ever had on the show. She’s wonderful. She’s in New York now, I think.

Oh, and when asked about the possession storyline, Frances said, "I was ashamed! It was embarrassing." When asked why, she said something like, "I can't believe in the devil. Can you? It was embarrassing."

Dr. Chip, thanks so much for posting those quotes. It was wonderful reading them and getting some insight into her thoughts on the cast. I'd love to hear more about her relationship with Susan Seaforth Hayes!
