Great news with the demos. This is third??? week DAYS was able to keep 1.4. And there is no shortterm action packed stunt like GH has now, so their 1.6 and second place will probably die after the stunt is over. (I think it would serve Guza well if he planned his usual sweeps stunt for February and didnīt have anything for March which is the real sweep month this year.) Iīm nervous, but if the show keeps it through sweeps it would be the best DAYS sweeps from last February and the plane crash stuff. Edited by jane1978, Feb 12 2009, 04:01 PM.

I can't believe that Days is maintaining after J&M departure! WoW - that surprises me big time especially in this demo! ... if they maintain after S&K are gone that would also be a big surprise!

Donīt want to sound cynic or something, but Stayla almost completely disappeared from September till now. If they disappear again, most of people will not even notice they are gone gone this time unless they scan the credits and see the actorīs names are no longer there. |

I really think the huge losses in viewship in 2006 and 2007 were the J&M fans. They bailed when John was in a coma, when John died, when John/Marlena divorced. And I don't think they ever came back. I don't expect there to be very many Nielsen families who are old-school fans. I think the majority of those left when the show tanked numerous times in the last few years. |

This is true ... but if you look at the boards J&M and S&K seem to have the biggest fanbase I guess you can't use boards as a measure. |

Yeah, but how many of the post-ers have Nielsen boxes attached to their TVs? |

I don't expect there to be a dropoff when Steve and Kayla leave, because (1) they've been so infrequently used and (2) they're not even getting an exit story so people may not even notice when they leave. Obviously, people who watch for Steve and Kayla first and foremost will, and I imagine many of them will leave, but there are also Steve and Kayla fans who might stick around to see what happens with Stephanie, or their other favorites. I guess we'll see when the time comes. |

I'm a thinking that those who watch solely for the Vets may have already left along time ago. Maybe TPTB are not so dumb afterall! |

I would agree with this. I left during that time and came back in Summer 07 but many of my friends did not. I stayed until May 2008 and never really watched consistently after that except for the two week Olympic stint. I watched during J&M's last run, but many on the boards watched on you tube, rather than tune into the actual show for their last appearances. |

Yay for GL! It's really quite remarkable how much better it's gotten in such a short amount of time. Obviously, it still has its share of problems, but IMO, this is the best I've seen it in probably four years.

I agree. That is why I've been saying the show has nothing to lose. It lost those fans. Unlike in the 90's, they already forced those fans out so they may as well change the show like they are. It won't hurt the numbers and even if the show only stays in the 1.9-2.1 range, that won't hurt them because of all the costs they slashed. They will be making more of a profit. I don't think Steve and Kayla leaving will make a difference. The trust test will be where the show is at the end of the year IMO. I think they will do ok for awhile but can what Days doing be successful in the long-term? We'll see. It's a success right now and has been since October but they could easily lost everything they've gained. Days did well this week though. The viewer loss was probably the viewers they got from the bad weather last week so that is good. Minimal drops aren't bad. You just can't have 100,000-200,000 drops. I'm happy for GL. Well-deserved. I'm glad the inevitable dropoff in numbers for the soaps was not bad. GH got the hardest hit. I'm actually enjoying the show but I think the problem is they drag the stuff out over too long a period. It took them two weeks to build up to it and now it's two weeks into the actual catastrophe. It's already been a month's worth of material. Too long and I wonder why they pulled this out so early with sweeps being in March. Weird. I'm really worried about OLTL too. If they don't go up in the next couple weeks and if sweeps is underwhelming for them, I fear for what Frons will do to the show. Overall, not bad numbers though. |

Friday February 6th 1.8/2,397,000 AMC 1.6/2,394,000 GL 1.9/2,371,000 OLTL Go GL, almost beating 2 soaps! When is the last time that happened? I am really pulling for GL even though I have never watched it regularly. Soaps need a good comeback story, so why not GL? Is there a legitimate reason all 3 ABC soaps are dead last in the male demo? I am just surprised DAYS hasn't gone down more after J&M departure. If the numbers for DAYS are still like this a month or 2 from now, than maybe it wasn't such a bad business decision for the show. |
