CCH Pounder is best known for her dramatic work, but she'll try her hand at comedy in a pilot at FOX.

Pounder has joined the cast of "Brothers," a show about the relationship between a retired NFL player (Michael Strahan, an actual retired NFL player) and his wheelchair-bound brother (Darryl "Chill" Mitchell). Pounder will play their mother, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Pounder is coming off a seven-season run on "The Shield," where she earned an Emmy nomination for best supporting actress in a drama in 2005. She also has two other Emmy nods, for her role on "ER" in 1997 and for guesting on "The X-Files" in 1995. She's only done a limited amount of comedy work, though, most recently a guest appearance on "Girlfriends" a few seasons ago.

She co-stars in Sci Fi's "Warehouse 13" this summer and has a role in James Cameron's movie "Avatar." Pounder also guests on HBO's "No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" later this month.

Lifetime's Shepherd pilot stars "The View" co-host as a woman dealing with her unfaithful husband. Regen ("Whoopi," "The Black Donnellys") will play a co-worker. In the NBC comedy "100 Questions," Ho will play the title character's (Sophie Winkleman) friend and business partner.
