This is excellent news...No more incestuous relationships..
Isn't it sad that it takes Darin leaving the show to put an end to that?

I like Darin. I think he is talented and I think there was still lots to be done with the character but I'm so down on him that this won't even bother me. Same goes for Rachel Melvin. Love them both but I will barely notice they are gone.

A few years ago, Darin had the potential to be great. The next hero of Days. Now he's just...there. However, too many writing regimes with a different vision for him and the fact that any love interests he had outside of his nieces left the show hurt him big time. The show also had a chance to really develop the character last year but never fully committed to it.

Now I sense Darin trying to compensate by acting goofy or just plain overacting because I think he senses the character is in a rut. Plus, the pairing him once again with Chelsea, while cute at first, really just went nowhere and not just because the show dragged it's feet with it due to the status of the actors. It was doing nothing for either character and, in a way, it's best that at least one of them is leaving right now. I think both Chelsea and Max have stagnated a bit and I love both actors but the fact they are both leaving does not bother me at all.

I guess part of me is shocked because they are essentially letting the whole college scene go. They only have Stephanie left from that group now and Corday felt they were the future. You could tell Darin was well-liked too (and you know Corday hated seeing an Emmy-nominated young actor go) so I'm kind of shocked they aren't at least going with letting him do two jobs and then seeing what happens but, perhaps, the scheduling doesn't work and Days had plans to use him alot so it just wouldn't work. I'm guessing this saves Corday money and allows him to bring in someone else cheaper if he chooses.

I hope he exits on his own. Let Chelsea and Max go their separate ways because both characters need a break. I hope they come back someday with a renewed vision. They both are shells of who they are and that is because they both just ended up boxed into a corner so this really could be a good thing for the characters and for the show since they were not much of a presence in recent months so their exits won't be felt very much. I just worry about Melanie and Stephanie but Melanie does have the Maggie relationship. Stephanie will have no friends to talk to LOL. They really should bring someone on. Now is the perfect time to bring on some people like Jeremy Horton, Andrew Donovan, Jeannie Donovan, Sarah Horton, etc. The show needs new characters but a few names from the past would be good too. This really is the perfect change to rebuild the Horton's a bit too.

I'm guessing as the rumors stated that Wes Ramsey will see more airtime as a result of this. I'm guessing they will throw him at Arianna now? That is what I hate about this. We may end up having a pairing of two newcomers together, which would be hard to enjoy. The show has been doing so well the past few months because the long-term plans have not seen much in the way of problems or diversions and now we have one. I just hope Darin leaving doesn't screw up the long-term plans in any way. I don't expect his or Rachel's leaving to impact much but it could change a few things around, especially with the new Arianna character.

It's also funny, too, that one of SOD's headlines finally meant something. We all thought Darin going was a misleading headline and that he was just going off temporarily but I guess, for once, SOD got it right.

Well, I will miss Darin and hope the show does well. I will always wish things could've turned out differently for his character.

Excellent post, PhoenixRising05. I couldn't have said it better myself. The only thing I don't agree with is that I think Owen is meant for Stephanie.

Good for Darrin...I am happy for him...Not to sound mean but Max was always all over the place, and frankly I never connected to him. I won't miss the character at all.

I pretty much agree with your post, though I won't miss Max that much....the thing I have to say about the college scene though is thye are taking the route of the Salem High scene pretty much. Everybody gone but one or two characters. With the Salem High scene, its Philip and Chloe off/on. With the college scene, its Stephanie. Sadly it seems to be typical for Days' next generation to take off eventually.

good post phoenix. i actually like darin, and i like max, but the character has suffered because each writer that comes in seems to have a completely different vision for him. we went from a mechanic that had to hire mimi to do his books to an angry genius to a bartender torn between his two nieces.

i do wonder where this leaves stephanie. now that chelsea, nick, max, morgan, etc are all gone, there isn't anyone in her age group for her to interact with.

anyhoo, good luck to darin and kudos to him for getting a pilot picked up.

I love your optimism Phoenix but you will notice. With only Stephanie ( a poor developped character) and Melanie ( a new comer) as the center of the college crowd, the summer will not look good. Max not being there for Melanie hurts her character .Stephanie who always needed Chelsea to talk to and enhance her character will be really hurt. Now, I have faith in Wes but this Arianna girl I don't know.

I think Darrin and Rachel's departure just when the summer storylines are about to start is not a good thing for Days.

Finally, a post about Max/DB that I agree with.
I wish him the best :)

Oh, and Stefanie can go bye-bye anytime now, too.

I'm trying not to get too excited about this yet. I'm still paranoid it's only a temporary absence and SOD will have to issue a future clarification. I originally liked Max okay but his ever-changing personalities and his niece-fucking did him in for me and the character is not salvageable to me.

I will miss Darin and I wish nothing but good things for him. But, it was time for Max to go. Much like Rex and Eric before him, the writers never got a handle on a character, played by an actor who will most likely do well outside of soaps. Now is the time to bring back Jeremy Horton; do you hear me writers? :)
You liked Jeremy Horton? I thought I was the only one. They cut him right when they were giving him depth. At least with him I didn't hate Stephanie so much.
I thought Jeremy Horton was pretty interesting. I had no issues with Jeremy Horton being the son of two successful doctors and feeling a bit elitist and taking shortcuts in life though it was so absurd that 3 people from 3 different core Salem families wind up becoming friends in Ohio. I was actually quite interested when they chose to give him an abusive edge and would have been fascinating to dive into Stephanie following her grandmother's path and then Steve realizing that while his very own relationship with his daughter is estranged. But they dropped that.

Then when they had him move in with Nick and they had the odd couple thing going on, that was pretty good. But of course, they dropped him fairly soon.

Max was the biggest disappointment to me when I tuned into the show in 2006 and I can count on one hand where I enjoyed watching DB's performance (and none of those happening anytime in the last year). I can't believe the show was not only allowing him to have free reign to date his nieces but they were acting like this average looking guy was Mr. Casanova. Then they had him go through so many changes he's really quite a joke IMO. Still can't believe they kept him and let BB go but obviously I'm biased.

I agree Tripp. I wasn't too thrilled with Jeremy, but it was the actor I had a problem with, not the character.

I'm a Brooks fan and a Max fan, so of course I think that this was a mistake on the show's part. I believe that Brooks had the talent, if only he was given consistent material. So many fans pointed out the different identities of Max and that really hurt the character. Also, no one liked the fact that he was dating his nieces. Blood or no blood, Max is a Brady, as are Stephanie and Chelsea. They're related! Many found Max the most enjoyable while he was with Mimi and then Abby. That's not just a coincidence.

If you would have asked me two and a half years ago when the younger set consisted of Max, Abby, Chelsea, Nick and Stephanie, who would still be here in 2009. Never in my wildest dreams would I have guessed that Stephanie would be the one that remained out of the five of them. Shocker! And now, they only have Stephanie in that age range, who is the only one established to a family in Salem. And what do they do? Bring on already established characters like Jeremy Horton, Andrew and Jeannie Donovan, Sarah Horton? Hell no! They bring on two entirely new characters (Owen and Arianna). Why couldn't Wes Ramsey have been Jeremy or Andrew? Why couldn't the woman playing Arianna been cast as Jeannie or Sarah? What is this show smoking? Do they not realize that no one is going to give a damn about Owen and Arianna's relationship because they're two new characters that we don't give a fuck about!

Oh well. I hope Brooks is successful in whatever he does post-DAYS. Their loss.

People needs to face the fact the days when every character had a huge family circle around them is gone. DAYS is now more in the MP grounds where every character is on his own with Maggie and sometime Caroline working as the universal grandmas, giving wise advices to anyone no matter if they are related or not. Itīs not ideal, but I think if we learned something from the Jeremy/Jett fiasco itīs that name means nothing. Newbie is still just a newbie and there is always a strong resentment against them no matter if they are connected or not. Much more important is if the character fits and if there is a place for him in the dynamics of the story/relationship/age group he should be part of.

You ask why Wes Ramsey couldnīt be Jeremy or Andrew. Well, maybe because they are not needed? Jeremy or Andrew would replace Max as the townīs good guy and then what? The show didnīt know what to do with Max, why you believe they would know what to do with Jeremy or Andrew? And wasnīt a big problem of this show for the last decade Cordayīs never ending attempts to bring back more and more so called established characters when there was no story for them?

I mean, I think bringing in someone who is related to Rafe is a very good move because he needs someone and while I donīt mind sister Agnes/Theresa as his parent/confidant figures, they are just dayplayers and soon or later will be gone. And we donīt know anything about Wes Ramsey character yet, except he is very smart and has apparently some history with Stephano (who paid for his schooling???). I doubt Oven is his real name anyway, itīs probably just the name of a gardener he pretends to be.

Anyway, I think the good way how to create/ bring back characters is to have a story for them first and next look who from past could fit in the part. And if there is someone great, letīs use him rather then create a totally blank new character. But please, no more bringing people back just so the show can brag about it.

Yea but this particular family member liked to date OTHER family members so it helps to actually improve one segment of the show, getting rid of the unnecessary incest.

I think these are good points. I never had any interest in Ramsey's character being a recast of someone. We need more unrelated people in town. I don't want a town that has nobody but Bradys, Hortons, DiMeras and Kirakises.

Though I did like Jeremy. At first I HATED him, but both the character and the actor grew on me when they had him acting semi-abusive to Stephanie (and not because I don't like Stepanie, lol, it just made him more interesting). They could have gone somewhere with that, but of course, didn't.

Fantastic post.

I will say I would not mind bringing on some young Horton's but, as much as I've always wanted Andrew and Jeannie Donovan, that would be bad idea. First off, then you would have to deal with the elephant in the room that is Kim and Shane. Second, who could you pair them with? They are Brady's. You would have the same issues you had with Max and then the show would have to bring on another new newcomer or two for them to have people to interact with or possibly be paired with rather then just bringing on new new characters with no ties that you can toss anywhere.

Having said that, we don't even know who Arianna or Owen will be or if those are even their real names. They very well could end up having ties to the canvas. Hell, wasn't the Arianna role the same one from the casting call for "Philip"s sister" that we all discussed on the board a month or so ago? If that is the case, then she would have a major tie to the show. The other thing to is that you could tell Arianna was for Max because they made a big deal out of her working at the Pub and Corday said they were bringing someone on for him.

As long as the show doesn't go crazy of new people, it's fine. Also, the one thing this regime has done is integrate characters slowly. Rafe, Brady, Mia, and Will all have been integrated very well without really being shoved in the audience's faces so I feel good about things as long as that continues.

Well, believe me, I wasn't a fan of Trevor Donovan, but I'm fond of the character of Jeremy Horton.
Given his background, he should be an interesting character and I enjoy the idea of having another generation of the Hortons on the canvas. I can accept a lot of things, including having to axe long time castmembers because of budget. But, I can't accept Jeremy Horton, who is half Jewish, being played by a blond haired surfer dude type. You don't have to break the bank to cast a new young actor who actually fits the part and brings some diversity to Salem.

Another character wasted. It seems it out with the old and in with the new for the entire show. I wish DB good luck with his prime time show and anything else that he might do.
