A Closer Look -- Mac

At long last, Mac admits her true feelings for Billy this week. Clementine Ford elaborates on the star-crossed lovers and what it's like playing the oh-so-noble Mac.

WEEKLY: Mac runs into Billy at the coffeehouse and shows him a scrapbook she made of their memories together. What's in the book?

FORD: I was really surprised when I saw the book. There are pictures, ticket stubs, little journal entries, and the karaoke CD Billy and Mac made. The scene starts off pretty light. They remember their friendship and touch on some moments. They talk about prom night and the horror of dancing in front of all those people.

WEEKLY: Billy ends up calling Mac out on sending him mixed signals.

FORD: Mac keeps saying, "No, no, no." Then she brings this scrapbook out. It's like she's hiding in her bedroom looking at it.

WEEKLY: Does Mac say anything in her defense?

FORD: She looks at Billy and says, "Who says I meant for you to see it?" Her defenses go up, because there is a little bit of her that wanted Billy to see the book and be a part of this with her.

WEEKLY: Billy ultimately gets Mac to admit her true feelings for him. How?

FORD: Billy keeps pushing and pushing. When he sees Mac's getting close to breaking, he pushes a little more. Mac realizes she can't do this anymore, because it's hard to keep up this facade and be nasty and shut off all the time. He asks Mac if she still has feelings for him or still loves him, and she says yes.

WEEKLY: Does Mac immediately regret admitting this?

FORD: Oh, yeah. She totally takes it back. She basically says just because she admitted him she feels doesn't mean she wants to be with him. It doesn't mean she's trying to break up his marriage.

WEEKLY: So she's still being noble Mac?

FORD: Of course. That doesn't go away, ever. Mac grew up not really knowing her dad and having a rough childhood. She doesn't want to put any child through that.

WEEKLY: Then Billy drops the bombshell that Chloe left him. How does she react? I mean, she has to be a little happy.

FORD: She is. It's a mixed feeling though. Clearly, Billy and Chloe's pattern is this push-pull thing. How much can Mac really trust this? Then there's the question of "How well does Mac really know Billy now?" On the one hand, there are possibilities there, but on the other, Mac is protective of herself. She's worried about what could happen and her feelings. It's all too overwhelming to think, "Am I happy? Am I not?"

WEEKLY: So Mac doesn't really know what she wants?

FORD: Mac is more confused than ever. She doesn't know which way to turn or whether to open up or shut down again. She loves billy, but she doesn't want to get hurt.

I hope when all is said and done Billy reunites with Mac and they get their happily ever after, only for Mac to tragically DIE soon after. :)
