I always say I started watching soaps while in the womb but my very first memories were in 1984. I was 5 years old and it was All My Children. I don't remember many other characters except this woman named Brooke English who I became mesmerized by. I vividly remember Gil stalking her while The Police's "Every breath you take" played softly in the background. Stopped watching in 97 DAYS: during The Killing Pool. A "dead" Kristen locked Susan up with the Sultan and was impersonating her. Vivian was with Jonesy, Roman and Marlena were getting together, and Celeste was in a convent with Mary Moria. Stopped watching daily in December 08 and honestly don't really miss it. B&B: Started when Becky was dying of cancer. Have watched on and off since ATWT: Started watching during the Spa storyline and still watch on and off. GL: Started watching when Drew, Michelle, Jessie, Danny, Carmen, Selena etc were front burner. Have watched on and off since And I finally started watching Young and the Restless a couple months ago and I kicked myself in the ass for not watching it sooner. Best. Soap. Period! DAYS (1993-2005, 2005-present): Carly buried alive got me hooked GL (1998-2003, 2004-2007, 2009-present): Reva's clone (most people hated it, but it's what got me addicted) ATWT (1998-2008): Julia/Jack/Carly triangle and David's reign of terror got me watching OLTL (2008-present): started watching after reading about Andrea Evans returning as Tina (slash being disenchanted with all my other soaps at the time)...my interest was piqued and I found that the show was really good Y&R (2008-present): I started watching out of curiosity during the Katherine/Marge and Paris stuff, and I fell in love, LoL |

I have been watching DAYS since I was about 7 years old; so since like 1986! My grandpa watched it and got my mom into it, so I started watching it too and have ever since. I can't remember what exactly was going on storyline wise. The only other soap that I watched pretty regularly was Sunset Beach. By the time I was really into it they cancelled it though. |

My grandmother watched all four CBS soaps, so when I was at her house, I watched them, too. All I remember is Y&R. Days - I remember John and Marlena on the Pier, but I'm a little unclear on whether I remember when it actually aired or if I remember it from a flashback. I definitely remember Night Sins. I would have been 8. My mom didn't watch Days or like for me to watch soaps so I didn't get to watch it all the time. |

Lets see I think I watched AMC in my mothers womb because I remember stuff from the show that would be impossible for me to remember otherwise lmfao. Sooo I would have to say I watched the ABC soaps from birth lol. But my first actual clear memories of AMC come from the time when Erica and Dimitri first got together. And DAYS I started watching around the time of Marlena's possession lmao. |

Days was my first soap. I started watching in 1983 around the time the Dimera's were coming into play and the Brady's were getting big. I was fascinated by the Dimera's and Days was pretty much all mystery and adventure back then and it appealed to me. I would come home and my grandmother would have it on. I got so into it and have not missed an episode since. I always find a way to watch. I tape it every say or find some way to watch. I have so many tapes of past episodes LOL. I've been lucky enough to get my hands on episodes from 1980-1983 so I kind of go back that far with Days. I began watching AW and the other NBC soaps because I was watching Days. My parents were into GH and AMC so I got into those around 1985-ish. I soon got into OLTL off and on shortly after that. I've always been hit or miss with that show, right to this day. Never got into the CBS soaps until the late 80's and I've pretty much watched them all consistently to this day. Sometimes I've struggled with some of them but I've kept watching for the most part. I always try to catch all the soaps, especially in recent years, while we still have them. Days is the one I will never miss and refuse to ever quit. Only once did I ever think of no longer watching and that was during the Iraq story and that feeling lasted for all of five seconds. It's the soap closest to my heart (especially since my grandmother and I shared such a close bond because of it through watching and discussing it together) and I'm with it until the end. If it ever does go off the air, I will be a total wreck. I really will. Edited by PhoenixRising05, Jun 4 2009, 11:43 PM.

My soap life story: SANTA BARBARA: Late 80s (when I was probably about 5 or 6) I remember coming over to my grandma's house and her having on Santa Barbara every afternoon when it came on at 3. I don't remember very much about it other than rooting for Cruz and Eden to be together as my grandma wanted them to be together. YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: In 1991 or 1992 I started watching Young and the Restless and watched pretty regularly for the summers for the next several years but have hardly watched the show at all in the 2000s until just recently. I distinctly remember when I started watching that Jack and Nikki were married and Nick and Victoria were not SORASed yet although I'm not sure exactly which of those years that was. In the next few years I came to really like Dru (who I think originally lived with her grandma and had this really funky hair that I almost wanna say was dreadlocks), Lauren and Cricket (and have never liked Michael Baldwin because of how much he sold me on what a monster he was back in those days). I liked Jack wayyyyyyy more than Victor and was always rooting for Jabot/the Abbotts over Newman Enterprises and was pissed when Nikki went back to Victor. I didn't want Phyllis to successfully lure Danny away from Cricket. I liked Brad and Ashley together. I hated SORASed Victoria and didn't want her to steal Ryan McNeil from Nina, but LOVED SORASed Nick. ANOTHER WORLD: I started watching it around 1992 or so and remember loving it but I can't remember specific stories that I loved, strangely enough. I think I must have just really liked the characters and the actors. Victoria Wyndham, Linda Dano, Kale Brown, Anna Stuart, Judi Evans, Tom Eplin, Stephen Schnetzer, Ricky Paull Goldin <33333 I really liked Jake and Paulina together and Felicia Gallant was a goddess as far as I was concerned. DAYS OF OUR LIVES: I started watching it around 1993 because of the Carly buried alive promos and because it came on the hour before Another World. Even though I started watching for the buried alive thing, the first DOOL scene I remember is Billie in a fancy bathtub at the start of the story where she and Bo were in LA. If you can't tell from my screen name, I very much enjoyed JER's first DOOL era and that is when I got hooked on this show... :) I have been mostly on ever since (although I did take breaks during the school years during the 90s and there's a whole chunk of show between the late 90s and early 00s that I missed before I was roped back in when my college roommate told me Marlena was a serial killer) although I have caught up on some of it via YouTube. BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL: 1993ish I was a viewer off and on then and for a year or two more but don't watch it whatsoever now and haven't at all in the 2000s. Total Taylor-Ridge person to this day. Also *REALLY* liked Macy, which I find hard to believe now as I absolutely can't stand Krystal on AMC. PASSIONS: I was a PASSIONATE viewer of Passions from pretty much the first episode until Timmy died when the show became way less fun for me. Lost interest during the revolving door of recasts (I think Kay must have been the worst) and while I stuck with things off and on for a couple years after that I only watched sparingly during the mid-to-late 2000s. ALL MY CHILDREN: Saw my first episode ever in May 2007 when nu-Greenlee came back for the Ryannie wedding. I have no idea why I started watching then or why I have continued to tune in for little spurts since as I hate a majority of the characters. I blame SoapNet. Oh and David Canary and Susan Lucci. ONE LIFE TO LIVE: I first started watching during the week of Todd and Blair's last wedding (I want to say that was summer or fall of 2007) due to a challenge from SteveFrame that DR posters watch other soaps they don't watch regularly and see what happens. I have tuned in more often than I do to AMC since then and am enjoying it currently. GENERAL HOSPITAL: I first started watching during the black and white ball at Nikolas's mansion (November sweeps 2007?), which I thought was really awesome and which the show has failed to live up to IMO at any point since that event. I think it really blows right now and only watch it now by accident or being too lazy to change the channel. I've never seen an episode of ATWT or GL. Never watched Loving, The City, Port Charles or Sunset Beach. Watched Dark Shadows reruns on Sci-Fi channel when I could. |

Days - 1998, the whole Sami/Lucas/Austin/Franco/Carrie/Mike/Ali stuff got me hooked. Y&R - birth? I have memories from when I was 6 of the original Marge story, I remember Sheila and the baby switch - those are my most vivid memories. OLTL - 2003-2004, 2007-2008/9. I loved the Mitch Lawrence & Todd return stories. And then the Carlivati stuff was great - but I became bored by the end of last year/early this year - dont remember which. ATWT - mid-late 90s when I was home from school. Lily in prison, Damien and his crazy mama in Malta drugging Lilly. Carly/Mike/Rosanna. Then for a couple years starting in 2001 when Sheffer was hitting his stride. |

DAYS (92/93): Carly getting buried alive. Y&R (93) I've been watching off/on since. ATWT: I started watching after the Gwen/Jennifer babyswitch. I stopped watching about a year ago. GL: Watched off/on since Reva was cloned. OLTL: Started watching when Natalie first came to town and during the Nora/Troy/Lindsey triangle. I stopped watching during Dena Higley's reign of terror. Came back after Nash's death. AMC: I watched for about 2 years in the 90's when Erica stole Maria's baby. B&B: Most of the 90's. I stopped watching after Shiela "killed" Taylor. Now the show is a complete mess. Sunset Beach: The entire run. Another World: The last 2 years. Port Charles: I started watching after Eve's death until the end. In 1986, I was around 13 or 14 and flipping through channels one day. It happened to be the day when Kayla rescued Steve on the pier and took off his patch to help nurse his wounds. I was pretty much hooked to see the slow burn of their love story unfold. It was good for my impressionable and romantic young mind to see how Kayla never felt like she had to change herself to get the guy she wanted. :D I thought Hope (KA) was one of the most beautiful women on television. Once Matt Ashford came into the Jack role, I found Jack to be so much more of a rootable character even though he initially had such a bad side. Watching Days also got me into Another World and Santa Barbara (I wanted Eden's hair sooo badly!). When I was in school, though, I mainly just taped Days As I headed off to college, I drifted away because I did not have a tv or vcr available. I never got back into soaps again until I saw the SOD cover with SN and MBE announcing their return to Days. The S&K romance had always kind of stuck with me over the years. Even though I could not recall many of the specific scenes, I remembered "feeling" their story and characters so much. I went online that day to see if I could find some old scenes to see if my impressions had been rose-colored because I was so young. My sleep deprivation the next few weeks as I addictively watched the clips of their full storyline answered my question. :P |

I'm going to date myself here but remember I was very, very young when I started watching soaps! Days of our Lives--probably around 1970. The first story I remember in detail was when Doug came to town as a con artist, after meeting Bill Horton when they were both in jail. I've watched Days ever since, except for a couple years in the 80s when I was working and didn't have a VCR. When I was in school, I'd watch during the summer and holidays and usually managed to get "sick" whenever something important was going to happen. When I got home from school every day, I'd sit at the kitchen table and have a snack while my mom filled me in on what had happened that day. I think that's why I still love Days so much, because of those warm, fuzzy, comfy memories. Young and the Restless, All My Children and Ryan's Hope--I watched from the very beginning of each; however, I gave up on Y&R after a couple years. I loved AMC and all it's wonderful characters. The Martins, Mona Kane and wild child Erica, rich bitch Phoebe Tyler and troublemaker Brooke. I loved the Tara Martin, Phil Brent, Chuck Tyler triangle and the romantic, secret wedding vows between Tara and Phil before he was sent off to the Vietnam War. I hated Erica for having an abortion just because she wanted to keep her figure and work as a model. It was a great show, but as I got older and life got busier, I quit watching, probably in the early 80s. I watched Ryan's Hope until it was canceled. General Hospital--I also watched this one from a very young age, with my mom. I remember Audrey and Steve and Jessie pining after him from behind the nurses' station. I loved this soap but as it began moving away from the hospital setting and stories, I gave it up. The Doctors--I watched this intermittently with my mom but don't have any clear memories of the stories. When I visited my cousin, I was exposed to a whole new set of soaps because my aunt watched Search for Tomorrow, One Life to Live, Edge of Night and the Secret Storm. My cousin and I would lay on the floor, drink kool-aid and watch, while my aunt filled us in on what was going on. An example of how soaps do influence lives--I've always had a habit of getting up early in the morning and racing around to get all my work done for the day. By mid-morning, I will have housework done, laundry washed and folded, dinner already planned out, errands run. My parents are retired and come visit for long periods of time, and during one of their visits, my mom was watching my crazy morning routine and asked me if I knew why I was that way. When I said no, I just always liked to get my work done early in the day, she explained that it was learned behavior--she had always done all her housework early in the day so that when her soaps came on, she could sit and watch them all afternoon with a clear conscience. As a child, I watched her routine and adopted it as my own when I became a stay-at-home mom. |

DAYS: (1994 - 1999, 1999-present). I started to watch around Tom's funeral and the Maison Blanche storyline. I quit watching for about 2-3 months in summer/fall 1999. That was the first time the show felt different to me, it wasn't the show I was used to seeing. Then I saw two promos that pulled me back in. The first was of the real Princess Gina setting Stefano on fire and the second was of Austin and Brandon's boxing fight. Since then I have been a loyal viewer. And I have watched the episodes I missed in 1999 on tapes later on. B&B: (The 90s - early 00s, 2003, 2005-present). I'm not sure what years in the 90s I watched because I was so young and didn't save the episodes on tapes like I did with Days. And I wasn't sure about what years they aired here and how old they were. With Days I've always known they are four years behind. The stuff I remember the most from my first "run" as a B&B viewer was the baby storyline with Rick/Amber/Deacon (I think Decaon was a part of it, he just started on the show). I returned briefly during the Puerto Vista storyline but then quit watching again. Then I started to watch again in late 2005 episodes when Nick and Bridget got married on his boat, I have watched since then. Sunset Beach: (1997-1999, the entire run). And I watched the 1998 episodes (Derek/Ben, earthquake and tidal wave) two more times when those aired as reruns here. GH: (2007). GH have only aired here for two months. It's the episodes from 2007 (started with the Metro Court crisis) and so far I like it. Edited by Sindacco, Jun 5 2009, 04:19 PM.
