Y&R- My mom pretty much was home all the time, and I watched alot. The farthest back I can remeber is back in the early 90's. B&B- Didn't really watch this much, but as a little kid I was intrigued by Sheila and her crossover storyline to Y&R. ATWT- This is the soap I least watched of all the CBS soaps, really don't remember the storylines that got me hooked. I do know that I loved Simon/Katie. GL- I was watching since 1991. I got into this one the most because it was the only one I could watch year round since it came on at 3:00 (got home from school at 2:45). I fell in love, and it is now my favorite soap EVER!!!!!! DAYS- I started watching around the SSK storyline in late 2003. I've been one and off since. PASSIONS- I loved this show. I started watching during the Hell in the Closet storyline. I couldn't get enough off the Kay/Miguel/Charity triangle. I especially loved the storyline where Beth pretended to be pregnant with Luis' baby, and walked around with a sack of salt (or sugar?) as her belly. OLTL- I was just flipping channels, and the first scene I saw was Nash's death. I instinctly kept looking, and have been hooked ever since. AMC/GH- Just a casual viewer, I was never into the ABC soaps, and I only watch these because of OLTL and the fact that there aren't many other options when it comes to soaps. DAYS: I am 33 yrs old right now and I remember my mom, aunts and grandmother watching Days to learn english. I guess my earliest memories are of Hope, I thought she was the MOST BEAUTIFUL woman in the world. I also remember being enthralled by Jennifer Horton because of her eyes and hair. I dont really remember any s/ls but mainly connections. I loved Jennifer with everyone. I wasn't really a Bo & Hope fan but when Hope was with John as Gina they really surprised me. Always loved Patrick Muldoon's Austin, Sami, & Lucas. Sami with Brandon had me hooked until he slept with Lexie. I've watched Days off/on as summer vacations came and went and as changes in my schedule have occured. Always watching while doing homework or laundry. It was when EJ came along I was interested again but it wasn't until he was evil and terrorizing Sami that had me falling off the edge of my seat and had my complete and full attention. PASSIONS: I started in 2000 or 2001 only because it came on after Days and I had started working swing shift. The first few times I thought it was the most stupidest waste of time ever but then I started seeing Theresa and my girl crush began. Theresa was Passions and I loved her undying love for both Ethans and even her flirations with Fox. She has those big eyes that remind me of Hope and Jennifer, full of admiration and adoration all of which I am a sucker for. Later I began to like Kay & her pursuit of Miguel and then later her relationship with Fox. DESTILANDO EL AMOR: This was the last telenolva I watched. I am super resistant to watching spanish soaps because they are so cheesy but this one was on when I spent a month at my mom's house and that's all she watches, additionally she doesn't have cable. Again, Gaviota had those big eyes and then I was hooked when I heard her beautiful voice sing "Ay, Gaviota". It also helped that the male lead character was in Jaime Fox's Held Up. All in all, there really aren't any s/ls per se that have sucked me in. Its more the characters, actors, dialogue and emotional connections between them that entertain me. Also, when I see vet Days characters like Victor, Hope, etc it reminds me of certain times in my life and of my grandmother who has since passed. Edited by Halloween Family, Jun 6 2009, 12:04 AM.

DAYS - back in 1995. Its been off and on since. As of January, its basically off. But, I do continue to follow along. I've been trying to get into Y&R since so many people speak so positively of it. Its yet to happen though. Soon I'm hoping. |

I started watching DAYS in 1980. Two of the earliest storylines I remember most clearly, though, were a couple of years later. Marlena was being terrorized by the Salem Strangler on her radio show, and the sparks were flying between Tony/Anna and David/Renee as each couple vied to give Stefano his first grandchild. |

My mother always watched Days and my first memories are from the late 1960s when Julie was in the middle of her rivalry with Susan Martin (Denise Alexander) & when Julie married Scott Banning, and when Bill & Laura were trying to keep Mickey from finding out that Bill was Mike's father. I remember Bill's argument with Kitty Horton (Tom, Jr.'s ex) over a tape recording she had of Tom Sr. (and either Bill or Laura) talking about this information & Kitty having a heart attack & dying. Bill was sent to prison for manslaughter because he refused to say what the argument was about and Bill met Doug (whose name was Brent Douglas, at the time) there. By the time Doug came to Salem & met Julie, I was really hooked! I was about 12 by then. I always thought Susan Seaforth was so beautiful & wanted to look like her. Doug was so full of life & I loved it when he would dance with Julie & sing to her. The show was only on 1/2 hour and used to move very slowly then but it was a good thing for those of us in school because I don't remember missing anything important despite there being no vcrs. I quit watching regularly for a while in the late 1990s and returned in 2006 (?) to see Steve and Kayla's reunion. I didn't like them as much this time around but I saw James Scott & EJ and got hooked again! |

I started watching Days during 1994, during the Carrie/Austin/Jonah/Wendy stuff, but became a more regular watcher during Marlena's possession, setting up the VCR to record it while I was at school. Before that, I used to watch Y & R with my grandmother. It was around the time Victoria was dating Ryan. |

Early seventies. Started watching DAYS. Then GH. Use to watch OLTL and Y&R and stopped altogether. Tried to watch Passions but it just got too ridiculous. Started watching again only because Galen and Eric were on. Now they both are on DAYS and I am THRILLED!!! |

My first soaps were Santa Barbara and Guiding Light. Although, Santa Barbara was HUGE here and GL was not, so GL got canceled pretty fast. I watched most of Santa Barbara, but never actually saw it end, cause by the end of it, I was sick of all the newbies. Then my new obsession was Sunset Beach. LOVED IT. But third season was kinda bad too. Finals weeks were great though. And Terror Island and Shockwave are still my all time favorite storylines. And then I fell in love with Days of Our Lives. I loved Phloe, I loved the Baby Switch. I LOOOVED Coronation massacre and the Salem Bombings. Then B&C came on and it was really great. In 2003, I stopped watching for a while, but came back with the serial killer storyline. I finally stopped watching during Hogan's tenure and haven't went back ever since. In the meantime, my number 1 soap became Y&R. And with a break from 2006 - 2008, I have been watching it for years now (1999-2006; 2008-present) and I am loving it. |

Classic Soap Fan

My earliest soap opera memory was of a spinning globe -- which I thought was odd since neither my grandmother nor my mother watched ATWT. Of course, I later asked my mom about it and she explained that my grandma did watch ATWT at one time, but gave it up when ATWT & Days started coming on at the same time (which happened when Days expanded to an hour in 1975, so I have soap memories from roughly age 4 and younger. lol) We were always primarily an NBC soap family. I watched Days with my grandma and AW with both my mom and grandma. I also know that grandma and I watched The Doctors, but I don't remember anything about it (except for that Colgate-Palmolive CP logo that's in my head as clear as day). We also watched Texas (I remember when they moved it to the morning and what a big deal it was when Iris left AW). My earliest CLEAR memory of Days is of Julie in her antique shop talking with Karl & Sharon Duvall and my earliest clear memory of AW is of Mac & Janice on a date. The first clear storyline I can remember for Days is the Salem Strangler and how stunned my grandmother was that they'd killed Marlena. My first clear storyline for AW was Steve Frame coming back from the dead and the whole ordeal when Rachel was blind after Steve died again up through the big Mac/Rachel, Sandy/Blaine double wedding. I remember how surprised we all were when the AW opening changed from the classic multicolored rings. My mother didn't watch Days, but watched AMC (as well as Ryan's Hope), so I would watch them occaisionally, but not with enough regularity to be able to tell you anything I'd watched. However, in the late 1980s, I did get into Ryan's Hope on my own and watched the last 2-3 years. I watched Santa Barbara on my own from 1st episode to last episode and I even got my mother started watching. We were both big Cruz & Eden fans. I picked up Young & Restless in the mid-1980s and watched that for several years and picked up Loving in the late-1980s. I got my mother watching Y&R and, eventually, she gave up AMC for Y&R. During the late 1980s, I had the attitude that if there was a soap on the air and I could watch it, I need to watched it, so I watched Y&R in the morning (one day behind), Ryan's Hope at 11:30, Search for Tomorrow at 12:30 (got hooked on it the summer before it was cancelled -- just my luck), Days at 1pm, AW at 2pm, and Santa Barbara at 3. When Search was canceled, I started watching Loving. I eventually slid out of my Y&R viewing sometime in the 1990s, and SB & RH were canceled. After SB, I'd watch an episode of GL here and there, but not with any regularity. I specifically chose GL instead of GH because of how long it had been on the air. Oh, I did leave Loving to watch Generations and watched the 1st episode in the library at school. I also watched the 1st episode of B&B during French class, but I had to convince the class (and the teacher) to switch back and forth between that and Days because I think that was the week that Shane & Kimberly got married. Watched The City after Loving morphed into it. Watched the 1st episode of Sunset Beach and the series sporadically, but never really got into it (although I thought I was going to around the Shockwave storyline, but it just never materialized. However, I would watch the occasional episode when NBC would rerun episodes late at night). When AW was canceled, I followed Jake & Vicky over to ATWT and became a regular view and started watching GL, too. I really got hooked on GL during the Danny/Michelle/Carmen mess (I think Michelle testified against Carmen to save Danny because of something or other) and ATWT hooked me during the whole Craig/Barbara mess. Unfortunately, I haven't regularly watched anything in eons. I'll still watch an episode here and there, but nothing regular. |

The Young and the Restless was the first soap opera I remember watching and paying any attention to. I was probably about 6 or 7. It was around the time that Nick, Sharon and their friends were the teenagers on the show. I remember Eddie Cibrian as Matt Clark and how Nick and Matt always fought over Sharon. Of course I remember see the Victor, Nikki, Jack, John, Jill, Katherine, etc. but I don't remember what their storylines were at the time of watching. The older characters didn't interest me back then. I was watching more for Nick and Sharon. I've been a fan of them for years. I guess you could say they were my first favorite couple. I never watched really watched As the World Turns, but it was always on in my house or my grandmother's because my mom and grandmother were total CBS fans for a long time. I vaguely remember watching in the mid-90s. Carly was on and always getting into trouble. I remember Lily, Holden and Molly. And I remember watching Lucinda and Emma. That's pretty much all I remember from watching ATWT at that young age. I didn't become a soap fan until the summer of 1996 when I was flipping through the channels and caught a scene between Sami and Lucas at the pub and they were scheming to break up Austin and Carrie. The whole time they were discussing their plan, I kept wondering who were Austin and Carrie. The scene then shifted to two people in bed together, clearly in love with each other. That's when I started my understanding of how a soap opera works. As little into love as I was at the age of 8, I was about to turn the channel on Austin and Carrie (they were never a favorite of mine, even from the beginning), but then the scene switched to Marlena behind the golden cage in Paris. Creepy Stefano emerged from the darkness and started talking to Marlena in that delicious accent and I was hooked. Over the next several days, I was introduced to John, Kristen, Abe, Lexie, Bo, Hope, Billie, Kate, Victor, Vivian, Ivan, Celeste, the Hortons, etc. I've been a fan until this day. The next soap I started watching regularly besides DAYS was Sunset Beach in 1997 because it came on after DAYS and Annie Douglas intrigued me so much. She was like a slutty and more evil version of Sami Brady, so of course I would become a fan. SUN debuted in January 1997, so it was kind of hard for me to watch the show because Christmas break just ended and I had to back to school. But I can say the one thing that got me hooked and made me add SUN to my daily soap recordings was when I was home sick from school and I watched the episode where Annie was hiding in the funeral parlor after someone's death, maybe Del's(?) and she was nearly cremated! I thought that was the craziest shit I ever saw and I was hooked. I watched Passions when it started in July 1999 from the first episode. I could tell that it was a weird soap from the very first episode, but I was a fan until probably 2002. Around the time Timmy died, I stopped watching as regularly. That was so sad. :( I got back into Y&R in 2002-2003 and through watching Y&R, I started watching B&B. The Brooke/Deacon/Bridget triangle had me hooked. I loved Whip as well, so you know I'm excited about Rick Hearst coming back. I started watching OLTL in 2003 and became an actual fan in 2004 when Dena Higley became head writer. I have no idea why because her storyline sucked, but I was watching. As for GH and GL, I can't say I've ever been a real fan of either show. GH had me hooked in February 2007 with the Metro Court storyline, but I stopped watching in March or April when it was resolved. I can't say GL ever had me intrigues, LOL. |
