When I workout at the gym Y&R comes on so I've tried watching, I would say about 4 episodes, because everyone goes on about how great the writing is and how great of a show it is. i'm not seeing it. How many episodes do I need to see before I get hooked? what am I missing? |

If anything...it's just visually beautiful. Even if you hate the writing or can't "follow it," their production values are great. |

The writing, acting, directing, production, etc. are all lightyears above anything any of the other soaps are putting out. Most of the stories are great and actually make you want to watch the next day (what a concept!). The characters are fleshed out and aren't one-dimensional. The writers also use the history of the show to help drive story instead of conveniently ignoring it. You can tell that the people behind the show actually care about their final product, versus just being in it for the paycheck. Edited by Mason, Jun 19 2009, 05:01 PM.

I have to echo Mason here. The show was much better two months ago than it is right now, but it's still very enjoyable. The acting, writing, production and overall visual appeal of the show is great. It's aesthetically beautiful. The dialogue is smart. The characters sound like professional adults. That said, Y&R isn't an easy show to get into, IMO. Despite all the good things, for some reason it just doesn't seem to grab people as quickly as other shows. However, once you're hooked, you're really in for a treat. |

I think you really need to know dynamics between characters, their past relationships with each other to get into Y&R. Because most of Y&R characters have been on the show for a very long time and all of them share some kind of history together, so to get into it, you would have to know at least some of it, so that you could understand certain scenes. That's how I see it. I am just watching week 1 of June and I am still loving the show, although I do see that many people have turned against Y&R now. |

Right now the writing is debatable but the acting is usually spot on, and the production is near flawless. |

I started watching on and off about two months ago. It is hard to follow. It has a lot of history. I wish I had watched it years ago. It is written like soaps use to be written. It has great family history, good sets, and some of the characters actually tell the truth. There is a reason it is #1.......it is a well written soap with good acting. I'm glad I started watching it. I've also realize many many people watch it, and they love to tell you the character history....so, just ask. |

I most definitely have the desire because my fat ass needs the time on the treadmill and if I got into Y&R it would be great. I guess I've seen more than 4 episodes because I've tuned in here and there over the last few months. My impression is the really elderly lady has some sort of dementia and everyone thinks she dead but she's not. She gave some money to a bartender guy who has an Australian girlfriend whom I dont like. There's something going on at Chabot industries where the lady had to step down and her son Cain took over. I only know Cain from him beating out James Scott last year for TV guides sexiest. Cain's in love with the dark complected girl (Lily?) but was tricked by the pregnant girl Chloe?. The baby isn't his but some blond guy's who I guess is a bad boy. The reveal happened and Cain was pissed so he sued for custody of the baby even though he's not the bio dad. I think the blond girl looks better with Cain but she's with another guy. That's about all I know. I haven't heard any particularly crisp dialogue or stand out acting. How many episodes should I give it before I quit? |

Keep watching. The show has been a little slow lately, but I think it's going to really start picking up in the coming weeks. Like Kenny said, Y&R is not an easy soap to get into as soon as you start watching, but once you really are into it, it's really rewarding. |

Ok, I caught the last 30min today and my attn would drift off to the other channels but I hung in there. I have to say the last 5 min where Cain opens the freezer to get a vial of blood to dupe the genetic testing got my attention. They did a good job with the angle and mist. |

As Days was mainly preempted today, I watched Y&R and man, do I miss this show. I remember when I first tried to get into it because of former Days actors were on at the time. I just couldn't get it. Then I started watching around Cassie's death and was hooked. I eventually stopped watching again because of LML, but now I catch it if I can. Definitely a reason its #1. |

Right now is probably not the best time to try and get hooked. I am bored watching most days though there are a few good storylines. |
