I have to echo Mason here.

The show was much better two months ago than it is right now, but it's still very enjoyable. The acting, writing, production and overall visual appeal of the show is great. It's aesthetically beautiful. The dialogue is smart. The characters sound like professional adults.

That said, Y&R isn't an easy show to get into, IMO. Despite all the good things, for some reason it just doesn't seem to grab people as quickly as other shows. However, once you're hooked, you're really in for a treat.
I have to respectfully disagree. Y&R seems much better NOW than it was two months ago. Darkness and mystery seems to suit the show very well IMO.

I would agree with that. I don't know how I would come into watching Y&R if I hadn't watched it my entire life. Even then, I found that when I discovered the internet, I learned a TON of stuff I had missed!

When MAB first took over the show did get better for a while. But in the last few months the show with its preposterous over the top story lines that make no sense the show has been unwatchable. And the ratings keep sinking.

You can't really watch at the gym to get the full effect because if you don't pay attention you'll miss something. The writing may be a bit stagnant lately but the actors make the best with what they are written.

I started watching about 4 months ago. I don't know anyone who watches so between some internet investigation on how the characters are related and being patient I am hooked. I understand that some longtime viewers aren't happy with the current show but it's a diamond compared to anything else on daytime.

Overall I think it's fabulous but that doesn't mean everything is great. A few of the stories are pretty bad but overall the production, the performance and the writing is strong. I'm still trying to understand how Days beat it for an Emmy nom. Clearly Corday sucking something....

WANDERING Minstrel!

I can understand those who are less than thrilled with the show these days! A lot of it has been uneven and some of the plots have been downright LAME! But I still think it's the best US soap on the air! Of course IMO, the competition isn't very stiff these days!

I've been bad about keeping up with the show and the poster who mentioned the gym wasn't the best place to watch is right, I keep getting distracted and they moved it from the main tvs but the little tvs on the cycles are too fuzzy. Anyway, I caught a few min here and there and today decided to watch the entire thing.

All I have to say is WOW, this Daniel, Amber, Dean (hope these are the right names) thing has almost the same dialogue as EJ, Sami and Lucas. Hogan's on this show right? I am curious to see how he plays this out and am wondering what the dynamic was between Dean and Amber was before this blackmail sex. I dont know what the consensus is but from what I've seen today and tidbits here and there from before, Daniel doesn't appear to be as much of a tool as Lucas was made out to be. Amber is pretty but it appears Alison Sweeney is a better actress? The Dean guy is doing well but he doesn't have the same brand of sexy slimy-ness as EJ Dimera. They even have him sporting almost the same amount of facial hair as EJ did back then.

Y&R is really bad right now, this isn't a good time to get into it, IMO.

This current Head Writers that are writing this show all need to be fired and replaced. They're ruining the show right now.

I love Y&R but lately have been so frustrated by it.

I hated LML's destruction of the show and thought things were finally turning around. But I see shades of HS's dark, dark world of endless, unrelenting misery coming to the fore.

Y&R had to be crazy to hire the guy who wrote the ATWT spa storyline. Totally fucking crazy.

NOOOOO! Mason please tell me you didn't really love that sci-fi crap which ruined, in my view, Hogan Sheffer's tenure at ATWT!!Actually I know you really DID because I remember reading that before! I've ALWAYS hated science fiction storylines on soaps beginning with Luke and Laura and "The Ice Princess"! I loved that stuff on DARK SHADOWS but that was a different animal!

For the last 20 years, I only watched "Days" I quit watching when they fired the vets and turned it into a brand new show. I started watching Y&R back in February. The dialogue is terrific, the sets are great right down to the little things. The other day Phyllis was putting a baby proof thing on a cabinet, and the hardware bag said Genoa City Hardware. I'm looking forward to Lily's cancer story.
The story on days with Kate having lung cancer was insulting to anyone with cancer.
If people are saying Y&R is bad now, I really really wish I had started watching it years ago, because I think it is a terrific show and should be #1.
One more thing, the detectives and police on Y&R actually figure things out Ie: Mary Jane
I'm loving it.

The only reason why I liked the spa story...and nothing else about it....was b/c Rose, Emily, and Carly became best friends afterwards.
