I think he's doing really well right now. I like Evil EJ.

On a side note... he was in my dream last night... and he wasn't acting at all

I was a huge fan of his performance through the end of 2007 but became rather disillusioned as they whitewashed the character of EJ and it seemed that JS started to phone it in. The lack of interest or preparation or perhaps desire to mine anything out of the goody-good EJ really bothered me and I prefer to never, ever see the EJ Express guy again. Then the writing boxed EJ into the role of complete idiot and I can imagine that it would be difficult to recover from almost a year with little material to work with. But he's an actor and it's his job and I expected that he would be as happy to have the dark EJ back as I was.

Seeing EJ fall back into his DiMera ways was a delight; he was rusty but I could see it coming back (even through the nasty hair). The scenes with EJ raging were definitely ott, especially Nicole's first dream of being found out, just ridiculous. On the same hand he did a magnificent job conveying the hatred and contempt very quietly, very powerfully during another Nicole dream when he was holding Sydney. One hit, one miss. Overall I wonder what his preparation and motivations are in regard to being with Nicole because I think his performances with that character are very inconsistent. Sweet and soothing to contemptuous to raging montster is not really how I see EJ. Sometimes he and Ari shine and others....not.

Then we had the Grace reveal. I wasn't a fan of the shaking or his backing into a corner during the opening scenes, in fact I thought he looked uncomfortable about the scene until he was able to really yell at Sami. At that point I felt like he hit a believable beat, following through with a layered and complex performance of how EJ would react to Sami's betrayal and losing a child. After that initial scene I appreciated the work and felt like the old EJ was back. Even his performance in the morgue was great overall (OK the crying over the body was odd but believable because crying ain't pretty) and I thought he was brilliant at the funeral. I was giddy that the complex and conflicted EJ was back....

....until I watched the Judge Fitzpatrick scenes and was at a loss again. That was a one note scene; very inconsistent with other scenes and it's in those moments I'd agree that he is playing a charicature of EJ. That's what becomes disconcerting for me. He is one of the better actors on the show but the inconsistency is unpleasant. I don't see EJ as all that clever anymore, just pissed off all of the time and that doesn't make for intriguing viewing. Sure, the dialogue isn't there anymore either, but this is a character that HE has developed so after three years I'd hope that he understands what makes EJ tick. I don't often get any feeling of subtext or stuggle or remorse it's all just blatant pissed off EJ and that is what is unbelievable to me, the EJ without depth.

I'm a fan of JS's performance overall but I do think that he may think a bit too much of his own talent at times.

I saw some stills of the scene where EJ was in the morgue crying over Grace. If I hadn't known where the scenes were from I would have thought he was laughing. There was a disconnect in his eyes which is ashame because he used to convey a whole story through his eyes.

Currently doing a great job of being pissed off. If I'm supposed to read any other emotion I'm not seeing it.

However he was fantastic in today's Days Fun Fact during the commercial break. Despite my criticism, the guy remains Beautiful.

I am a Lumi fan, but in 2006 and 2007 his acting was great. Now it is just annoying and the crying with grace's death actually mad me laugh cause at one point I thought he was laughing.
