Not surprised for Days. I think it was known this would happen as it's happened the last few years. Thursday and Friday killed them (although they did have a bad Tuesday) with all the shifting around for the US Open and the same will happen this week. Plus, they had the Obama preemption this week that will hurt Days and all the shows. I wish Days would've just not counted Thursday and Friday last week and should not count Monday of this week and all the soaps should not count Tuesday because the numbers will be shit with the preemptions. Oh well. Days just needs to hold on past Wimbledon when things are back to normal and they will be fine. The fact that they held a 2.0 shocked me. I was thinking a 1.8-1.9 for last week and this week and like a 1.4 for Wimbledon week. As for the other soaps, B&B didn't exactly rebound that well. All the soaps are just bleeding and it's sad that even with all the preemptions causing a bad week Days is still up from last year with other soaps down. I think the numbers for all the soaps except for Days and Y&R (which is bleeding but not as much as others) will be shit. Those two are the only ones who seem to make any sort of movement or maintain any sort of stabilization nowadays. Edited by PhoenixRising05, Jun 26 2009, 12:57 AM.

I knew Days would fall...they had big stuff the week of Grace's death that got some ratings, added with pre-emptions...but honestly I thought they'd fall harder...they held on well all things considered(especially for all those other soaps tying low ratings or falling to new ones in one of the demos!) |

I didn't even realize Days had any pre-emptions last week; it wasn't pre-empted in my market. That's still a big loss of viewers from the week prior. Maybe people were just depressed from Grace's death; the show is pretty grim these days. I mean, story-wise, but I'm sure others will feel the grimness is in the quality. :tounge: |

It wasn't technically preempted. In some markets, it did not air when it usually does. In many cases, it was aired in late night or not at all (I don't know where it shifted too in some markets but there were people on several boards including this one saying they did not have Days because of golf). The same goes for this past Monday, which is why that number will suck too. That is why Days should just not count these days. I don't know why they don't. Or just don't air at all. Do what they do with Wimbledon and just don't air. I know that would be a ton of preemptions since they always preempt for Wimbledon but at least they could plan for it and the fans would be prepared. Nothing gets thrown off schedule and fans aren't looking around aimlessly for their show. Also, unlike Wimbledon week, the numbers will likely be higher with only 3 days in a week because there is no holiday or anything. I also think all the soaps should not count Tuesday of this week in their numbers. Obama's press conference preempted everything in some markets including Y&R, the first half of Days, and the first half of AMC. Unforunately, I expect the number to count and I think the numbers for everyone, especially Days, will be done next week. Days won't be back to normal until after Wimbledon. Their numbers may have seen a decrease but I don't think it would've dropped this much if not for the circumstances. I think they will be happy they held on to what they did. They still held a 2.0 and third place in HH and total viewers so that is something and they held well in 18-49 too so it wasn't as bad as it could've been and as it sometimes is every year when this happens. Days was put an hour ahead here for golf...I had NO clue it was on then, so I missed it...probably happened with alot of the Nielsen viewers too...and also, I believe some Obama stuff went on this week. |

The Obama stuff happened this week (Tuesday) so it will affect the numbers that come in next week. This is the kind of shit that doesn't help soaps either. I understand you can't stop Obama from interrupting things nor can you stop breaking news updates but in regards to the golf I wish they would just preempt entirely and just not air on days they know will be affected by golf. This way the show can plan around it and the fans will know ahead of time. I understand they couldn't do anything about the golf this past Monday because bad weather pushed it into Monday. In that case, you just have to accept it and perhaps not count the day since it no doubt will be a poor number. In regards to last Thursday and Friday though, they should just look into preempting completely next year and not just have the show shifted all over in several markets. Or maybe they just don't care because they figure many watch on Soapnet or online or whatever. I think that is why you don't see soaps aired in late night anymore after a preemption. That always used to happen and it doesn't anymore. The fact that Days aired half of an episode on both Monday and Tuesday when in the past they would've just preempted completely speaks volumes. They seem to believe fans will find a way to watch the rest of the episode somewhere. |
