Like, i'm interested in where this whole Phillip story is going to go. But I dont think they're ever going to make me empathise with the character with this hiding away for 20 years stuff. Alcoholics can recover and be good parents - so once getting his stuff together they're really no reason he couldnt have come back. Same goes for if he bolted because of his sexuality. There's really no reason to excuse abandoning your son for all this time, and I hope Nina rips him a new one. |

I think there's some reason for him leaving other than being gay or an alcoholic! At least there's some reason for him staying away that we haven't read in this article!I HOPE I'm right! |

The thing is though, P3 would not be the first soap character to abandon his family because he couldn't take the life he was living and then come back years later to make amends. Happens all the time in soaps. Just this time the man in question is gay. |

I agree that they shouldn't forgive him right away. They should rip him a new one, but I'm sure that they will forgive him along the way. I think it could be a great storyline. There are so many levels. First, they have to deal with P3 being alive. Then they learn he faked his death. Then they learn he's gay. And then there is the aspect of the storyline where P3 has to find a way for everyone (his mother, grandmother, his ex-wife and his son) to forgive him. This storyline could go on for a long time and could be very interesting to watch. |

His mother practically abandoned HIM so that she could marry a wealthy man after shipping the kid off to boarding school! She did this despite having been abandoned by her "father" when she was a kid! Katherine KILLED P3's father and denied him his birthright and his name until he came back to GC as a teen! Both women interfered in his life to an interminable degree! Nina was a little scheming bitch back then who tricked him into bed and got him drunk so she could get pregnant and snare him! There was even a hint back then that they never even HAD sex and the baby wasn't P3's although I doubt they'll dredge that up again! The only innocent in the situation was P4 or "Chance" as he'll be known! But I believe P3 had protective motives for leaving the kid and Nina who'd changed a BIT by then! He was an active alcoholic in a pressure cooker of a situation between two harridans who were NOT driven by his best interests! I could see him leaving for a LOT of reasons but the baby is a tough pill to swallow! |

Pretty obvious. Thom Bierdz specifically said he would return to the show if he can play an openly gay character. So, this isn't surprising. I agree that Phillip was/IS a coward, and faking his death over his sexuality is overly extreme, but there are many homosexuals who pretend to live their lives as heterosexual males, have a family (children, wife) while having sexual intercourse with males on the side. I know the two are very different, but their is a stigma with being gay that many people have still yet to overcome. |

This storyline should be groundbreaking stuff, so I hope it's handled with compassion, integrity, and intelligence. I trust Thom Bierdz would have only returned if it would be. This should be a 6 month arc of forgiveness/redemption, leading up until Christmas. |

To piggyback off what Big Brother said...those are the aspects of P3's return...we have the whole story part too about Cane's arrival and claiming to be P3...the DNA tests that didn't match...how Cane knows P3 and vise-versa...Katherine's memory of giving the baby away. There are SO many levels to this story and I hope that Maria Arena Bell mines them for all that they are worth. DIG BITCH DIG! |
