Maura Tierney illness delays 'Parenthood' NBC drama postpones production, moves to midseason NBC's new fall drama series "Parenthood" has been pushed to midseason because of an illness of one of the stars, Maura Tierney. The series, a contemporary reimagining of the 1989 feature, had been scheduled to begin filming July 27. The production start of the Universal Media Studios/Imagine TV-produced show is now tentatively scheduled for late September. "Start of production on NBC Universal's new series 'Parenthood' has been postponed for eight weeks due to medical evaluation that valued cast member Maura Tierney is undergoing," NBC said in a statement. "The top priority for NBC, Universal Media Studios and Imagine Television is the well-being of Ms. Tierney. We are unable to release further details and ask that you respect her privacy at this time." "Parenthood" revolves around four siblings (Peter Krause, Tierney, Erika Christensen, Dax Shepard) and their parents (Bonnie Bedelia and Craig T. Nelson). As a result of the delay, NBC is making a change on its fall schedule. "Parenthood" had been slated to premiere Sept. 23 and run in the Wednesday 8 p.m. hour. With "Parenthood" pushed, new drama "Mercy," which was to take over the Wednesday 8 p.m. slot in midseason, will launch in the fall. The cast and crew of the medical drama have been summoned to start work on the series early to have it ready for a September debut. It is not clear yet if "Mercy" will air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. as NBC is re-evaluating its fall scheduling plans. This is the second time filming on "Parenthood" has been put on hold under unfortunate circumstances. In April, production on the pilot was shut down for two days after NBC's vp drama Nora O'Brien died unexpectedly on the Berkeley, Calif., set of the show. Tierney, who has been public about her long struggle to quit smoking, is best known for her 10-year stint as Dr. Abby Lockhart on "ER," for which she earned an Emmy nomination. She also starred on another Peacock series, comedy "NewsRadio," and has appeared in a number of features, including "Insomnia" and "Baby Mama." "Parenthood" -- whose cast also includes Potter, Sarah Ramos, Mae Whitman and Miles Heizer -- was penned by "Friday Night Lights" creator Jason Katims, who is exec producing with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. "Mercy," from writer/exec producer Liz Heldens and exec producers Gretchen Berg, Aaron Harberts, Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun, chronicles the lives of the staff at Mercy Hospital through the eyes of three nurses (Taylor Schilling, Michelle Trachtenberg and Jaime Lee Kirchner). The cast of the series also includes James Tupper, Guillermo Diaz, Delroy Lindo, James LeGros and Diego Klattenhoe. source: THR.com |

I pray she is alright. I hope this is nothing serious. She is one of my favorite actresses. She is so underrated. The fact that her work on ER in the past decade never got rewarded was a travesty. My hope is that Parenthood is as good as it looks and that she gets the credit she deserves. From the promos, Maura is so going to rock her role. It's sad that we have to wait for the show but it's necessary given the situation and my thoughts and prayers are with Maura. Hope she gets well and back to work soon. |

I don't wish to speculate too much, but medical evaluation and eight weeks tells me it's some sort of cancer. I hope it's not breast cancer (or any type of cancer, for that matter) and that it was just a scare. Best wishes to Maura in her recovery from whatever this is. |

The time of the delay makes it sound serious, but the wording of the statement makes me think it might be rehab. Whatever it is, I hope Maura's gonna be fine. |

via: EW Breaking: Maura Tierney sets the record straight about her 'medical evaluation' Jul 13, 2009, 02:34 PM | by Michael Ausiello Maura Tierney has just released a statement to clear up rumors regarding her health. Last week, NBC announced that it was delaying the fall launch of her new drama, Parenthood, while the actress underwent a "medical evaluation." "In an effort to guard my privacy, it seems that the wording of NBC's press release has unfortunately caused some confusion and undue alarm about my health. I have discovered a tumor in my breast which requires surgery. I will not know either my exact diagnosis or course of treatment until that surgery is performed. My doctors have all assured me this is a very treatable condition. I'm very optimistic as to the outcome and want to thank everyone who has sent positive thoughts and support. I look forward to going back to work soon." |
