E! Online reports that Brooke Burns will play Michael's wife, Vanessa, who is the mother to his other, younger, son Noah.

I remember her from North Shore. I didn't really like her.

I like her as a "host," but as an actress, her range is very limited. However, she was decent in the short-lived ABC comedy, Mis-Guided.

Well, in fairness, it is still a step-up from Ashlee Simpson.

Sad to say but ain't that the truth?

I normally wouldn't be interested in this show, but Katie Cassidy is on the cast. Does anyone have any idea if she's a recurring part, main character or whatever?

This is so confusing! Who is the mother of his older child? He had two children on original Melrose Place. One with Taylor and then Jane was pregnant at the end of the series. Why not just keep David as Jake's child and SORAS Michael's kids? Now bringing in this new character as his wife and that means he has FOUR kids, but does new history mean he has two? Or is this just a Taylor recast which means he only has three kids?

I can't believe these writers are so dumb they're already messing up the history so much. It's just not acceptable on a primetime show where there is a lot less content to view. They should know the original inside and out.

I loved her in North Shore ( that show should not have gotten cancelled). Glad she's joining. :D

I am not going to excuse the decision, but since they were planning to use Amanda for the storyline with Sydney, I bet they were going to approach Grant Show to return as Jake for the storyline with his son. However, since Heather rejected the story idea, looks like the just replaced Michael w/ Jake and made "David" his son.

Convoluted? yeah. But at the very least, they could have changed David's name.

I suspect "David" is illegitimate child from before Michael married Jane....or....early into their marriage. He was a man-whore after all.

Yep.

Since they obviously wanted Heather to return as Amanda (who likely balked at the idea of killing Amanda off in the pilot), she would likely have an affair with David, who turns out to be Jake's son. Jake's back to deal with that. It explains why we waited so so so long to hear if Thomas Calabro would return, probably because he wouldn't (well, we don't really know that for sure) if the producers didn't change things around.

Agreed though that David's first name should have been changed like they changed his last name.

I'm kinda still upset over it, but not really. It kinda limits them bringing Jake's son back in the future though, because he name CLEARLY was David Patterson. Unless he decides to change his name which would be even more ridiculous.

I'm disappointed Daphne Zuniga will return as Jo but we won't have Grant Show or Jake there. Maybe Melrose can snag him from the Jenna Elfman sitcom for a cameo. If he would return for anyone, he'd probably return for Zuniga. They've stayed in contact as friends since they left the show.

I could see it happening.....Melrose Place is owned by CBS Studios, so I doubt they would prevent him from making a guest spot.

The fact that they would kill Heather Locklear's Amanda off in the pilot is another thing that makes me go "WTF?!" I think the easiest thing would be to just bring back Taylor at that point and use her child with Michael. She's getting killed off in the first episode so you don't have to use her too much. Lisa Rinna may be a famewhore now, but she did do a great job on this show back in the day. She'll still bring publicity to the show, but they could still use a major character like Sydney down the road. Bringing her back from the dead just for her to die in the pilot is ludicrous.

I still think we'll see a third resurrection of Syd. Seems like a waste to get her back and have her dead starting in the first episode. I would of at least have liked a season long of Syd tormenting everyone and then ending up dead in the pool. It's kinda lame that we will only see what she did to piss everyone off in flashbacks. Meh.

I don't understand how hard it is to follow an existing shows history. Otherwise, what's the point of a spinoff or bringing back old characters? I just can't, in my head, think of a reason to write in two NEW kids for Michael when he already had one (and going to be two) at the end of the series.

Agreed. It's almost like these are completely different characters, just with the same name and same actors as on the original MP.
