http://sn.soapnet.go.com/news/article/days-melanie-i-call-her-my-fake-mom Things are really shaking up for "Days of our Lives" star Molly Burnett. Her character, meddling (but increasingly good-hearted) candy-striper Melanie has just encountered Salem's latest hot-boy-in-residence, Maggie Horton's grandson Nathan. And that's not even getting into the flirty vibes we're constantly picking up between Melanie and Brady. And as if hot summer loving in Salem wasn't enough, we spied Molly rocking out amongst the vampires (or, in her case, the vampire-haters) on HBO's sweaty-hot hit "True Blood." She guest-starred on the June 21st episode ("Keep This Party Going") as Amanda Jane, a Miley-by-way-of-Britney Christian pop singer whose new song, "Jesus Asked Me Out Today," was a big hit on iTunes (and in fact, you can download it for real -- it's awesome). Molly took a moment to answer our questions about Melanie, Amanda Jane, and what the future holds for her in Salem. Describe Melanie to us as you see her. Oh, Melanie is just a spitfire. She's way too mature for her age and usually means well, but sometimes just can't help herself and her conniving ways. What's up with Nathan, Maggie's grandson? Are he and Melanie going to get a little something-something going on? Haaay! Melanie is definitely into Nathan. Where it's going to go, I'm not sure. We're going to have to see if he can keep up with her! How's it working with Mark Hapka? Are you showing him the ropes? Haha; Mark and I got along instantly. He's great, and his comedic timing is definitely spot-on. But what about Melanie and Brady? There seems to be an attraction there -- is that a route "Days" is going down? Oooh ... Melanie and Brady are amazing together. Whether it's romantic or not ... I think for now it's a friendship, but a dang good one. What's the dynamic between Brady and Melanie? Like I said, I think for now they're just friends. But it's great because Eric is so much fun to work with. He's the Ricky Ricardo to my Lucille Ball. What actor on "Days" do you wish you got to work with more? I would love to work with Lauren Koslow, and Arianne Zucker! Ari and I so wanted Melanie to find out Nicole was her mother, so now on set I call her my fake mom! Is it weird suddenly being one of the veterans of your contemporaries, given the recent exists of Darin Brooks and Rachel Melvin (and arrivals of Taylor Spreitler and Mark Hapka)? Have you become the wise sage? Oooh -- wise sage? Haha; I don't know about that. I miss Darin and Rachel so much but the new crew is great! Taylor, Dylan, Mark, Casey. We all get along crazy well!! It's chaos downstairs in the dressings rooms! Anything you can tease ahead for Melanie? Mmm ... Melanie's heart strings are going to be pulled on ... and her morals questioned. So what was it like working on "True Blood"? It's such a soapy show. It was a blast! [Series creator/executive producer] Alan Ball is amazing. The show was so fun, and the whole cast was great! Was that really you singing? Is the song available? Yes sir, that was me singing on the show! The song is on iTunes, but unfortunately it's not my voice because we weren't able to schedule a recording time that worked for both parties. Any more "True Blood" episodes for you? Not yet. Fingers crossed for Season 3 maybe? What TV shows are you addicted to ("Days" aside)? I LOVE "Weeds" and "Entourage"! |

thanks Ellie. I think seeing Molly in "True Blood" opened my mind to the possibility that she really does have talent and her own special charm. I loved her bit on there. Hopefully season three sees a return of Amanda Jane! I like how the show has brought Melanie along and I hope they give her some decent material. I would hate for her just to be there as Stephanie's punching bag. |

Thanks for posting Ellie. I really like Molly. She seems like such a nice person. I agree with her and Ari. I think the writers missed a golden opportunity by not making Nicole her mother. Those two would have been a hoot together. |

I totally wanted Nicole to be Melanie's mother as well. Her mother has never been identified or discussed, so it's still possible. Love Molly, she seems like a great girl. Very likable. Thanks for posting, Ellie. |

She was very good in her scenes today. I think she's warming to the material and vice versa. They're taking the shrill bitchy edges off of her and actually giving her feelings. |
