As has been widely rumored for months, NBC executive Ben Silverman is exiting NBC Universal. After just two years at his post of Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios (where he signed off on huge scripted flops like Crusoe, Kings, Merlin and Kath & Kim), Silverman is exiting to join Barry Diller in a new company that promises to “capitalize on the ever-evolving world of multimedia production and distribution.” In place of Silverman will be Jeff Gaspin, who has been named Chairman, NBC Universal Television Entertainment. In addition to his current duties, Gaspin’s expanded role will now include oversight of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios.
Marc Graboff, who is currently Co-Chairman alongside Silverman, will continue as Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, reporting to Gaspin. Silverman is expected to remain in his current role until NBC launches its fall schedule.

"Jeff Gaspin is an extraordinary media professional who has had an incredible record of success in his 25 years in the business,” said Jeff Zucker, President and CEO, NBC Universal. “He's a strong creative executive who also has the business acumen necessary to succeed in today's media environment. This new structure helps us align all of our television entertainment assets under one veteran executive at a time when continued innovation is essential."
Added Zucker: “Ben Silverman has many exciting things he wants to accomplish and we applaud him as he sets off on his new endeavors. Ben brought us tremendous new thinking in this changing media age, and we're grateful for that. Now, we look forward to working with him in his new venture."

While NBC is “applauding” Silverman, the reality of his tumultuous tenure was failing to develop any new hit programming for the fourth-place network.
