Soaps.com recently had an opportunity to chat with Molly Burnett (Melanie Layton) and Casey Deidrick (Chad Peterson), about what it's like dating while working on Days of Our Lives. This adorable couple dish on "Harry Potter," who keeps the messiest dressing room to what it's like working on set as a couple!

Soaps.com: What's on the agenda for both of you today?

Molly Burnett: Oh... Iím thinkiní about learning some lines for tomorrow.
Casey Deidrick: Definitely tackling Molly a few times, run lines with each other for this upcoming week, and spending time with my new Shiba Inu, Ace. (Which he assures me are the coolest dogs ever!)

Soaps.com: How did you meet and what were your reactions to each other?

Casey Deidrick: We were introduced by Marnie, our amazing casting director and from there, she had my attention. Then Molly, Mark (Hapka, Nathan Horton), and I went out dancing one night and my skills on the dance floor really impressed her...
Molly Burnett: Oh is that so? Actually we really hung out at the Dodgers game first that Eric (Martsolf, Brady Black) and Nadia (Bjorlin, Chloe Lane Black Horton) sang [at the Dodgers Stadium] and found out that when we were growing up we lived like 15 minutes away from each other in Littleton Colorado! But yeah, Casey's got mad danciní skills.

Soaps.com:You're not yet working together, (yet?) are you hoping that you'll have some lines together at some point or do you prefer playing opposite others, instead?

Molly Burnett: Haven't you heard? Melanie and Chad are the next huge super couple! [Jokes] I think our characters run in different circles for the time being but Casey's incredibly talented and I would love to work with him and have Melanie give poor Chad a run for his trouble making money!
Casey Deidrick: Oh yeah? Well, if that's the case...Bring it! [laughs] Molly continuously blows my mind with the amount of talent she has, she's brilliant and I would love to work with her. I think those two characters would make for a very interesting scene and eventually a great "super couple."

Soaps.com: Are you still on set on the same days from time to time? And when you are, do you hang out in each other's dressing rooms?

Molly Burnett: Itís chaos downstairs on the days where all of us are on set. Casey, Mark, Taylor, (Sprietler, Mia McKormick), Dylan (Patton, Will Horton) - we're all running around yelling and playing video games and "hallway bowling." It's pretty epic!
Casey Deidrick: Usually within the first 10 minutes of getting on set, the hallways turn into a mosh pit. I don't like to step out much, until Iím about to tape because itís my room of Zen, but occasionally Iíll sneak a few kisses! We'll run lines in each others rooms too.

Soaps.com: So whose is the messiest? And do you know who your dressing room belonged to before you took it over?

Casey Deidrick: I was given Rachel Melvin's room. As for who's messiest...we're both pretty neat individuals. I'm really "OCD" about keeping things organized.
Molly Burnett: I was in Jay Kenneth Johnson's first room but just moved down the hall into the room next to Eric Martsolf! Thereís usually a lot of singing going on that side of the hall! And Iím pretty messy. Casey just doesn't know it yet!

Soaps.com: What's in your dressing rooms?

Casey Deidrick: I took the liberty of painting my room midnight blue, it's appealing to me. I have a Heath Ledger (as the Joker) shrine on my wall... it's inspiring to look at every time I'm on set, keeps me focused.
Molly Burnett: I have a big painting hanginí up behind my couch and a big white fuzzy rug and tons of glow in the dark stars all over the ceiling of my room. Not to mention scripts sprawled everywhere, and in my DVD player right now? "Hook."

Soaps.com: You both obviously have great taste, being that you're "Harry Potter" fans, [grin] but what else do you have in common, what do you get up to when you're off set?

Casey Deidrick: Okay, I'm more of a "Lord of the Rings" fan, but "Harry Potter" is just as epic. Molly and I actually have a lot in common. We both despise tomatoes, and she constantly threatens to slip them in my food. We're both Taurus's. We're from the same state and actually lived minutes away from each other and never even met until I got on the show.
Molly Burnett: You keep talkiní about "Lord of the Rings" and you're gonna find a basket of tomatoes in your room on Monday! He's right we have a bunch in common, love dancing, movie watching, but I also get to experience new things with him that Iíd never do on my own, and we trade off. For instance, he took me to a heavy metal concert, and Iím taking him to a jazz concert!

Soaps.com: What has been a great date night for each of you?

Molly Burnett: Iím super easy going. How can you not be when you're in such great company? Recently we joined Nadia Bjorlin and Brandon Beemer (ex-Shawn Brady, Owen Knight, Bold and the Beautiful) for a dinner party which was an absolute blast. Almost as epic as the "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" movie premiere!
Casey Deidrick: You spittin' game Molly? (laughs) We've had multiple dance nights, those are always a blast! There was one night we walked down Ventura BLVD. to get frozen yogurt, we talked about all kinds of silly topics and shared stories, I enjoyed every second of it. How can you not fall for that smile?

Soaps.com: I know Molly has auditioned for other parts and has taken a part in ,but do you also have outs in your contract, Casey? Have you been taking advantage?

Casey Deidrick: Yes, if it doesn't interfere with my shooting schedule, Iím allowed 3 guest star roles a year. I have been auditioning during hiatus.

Soaps.com: Wrapping things up a bit, I figured the fans would blast me if I didnít ask this! Any teasers you'd like to share from upcoming scenes?

Casey Deidrick: Chad is staying in Salem! You'll just have to wait and see for the rest!
Molly Burnett: Poor Melanie is going to get her heart strings pulled in a few directions, and in a little bit, Melanie and Brady are back at it trying to save the day!

And people don't think Melanie belongs in the teen set? I know, I know . . . unfair. Molly seems like a very nice girl, but I'm a little Melanie'd out these days.

I know, right? Guess that's what happens when they skew the show so young like this. I wonder what it must be like for the vets. They must feel like sitcom parents at times.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Obviously Molly is gravitating towards the castmates who are her age. Not sure why the writers aren't doing the same for Molly's character.

But haven't you heard? Everyone is interested in seeing Molly act opposite men way out of the character's league! Isn't it much more fun and realistic to see guys in their 30s fondling teenagers? And when Molly does those special ticks that just make her Molly (skewing her face, pouting on screen, the voice), it comes even closer to that underage thing that Dena is all about!

And how long have we been saying to put Melanie with Chad? Geez.

Maybe but at least there is an energy and people having fun.

I remember we used to hear stories all the time in the 90's about all the antics Drake, Bryan, Ali, etc were getting into.

How cute that they are dating. This was a nice interview. They do looks like they would have a nice chemistry onscreen and they really should've casted him as someone else because like Molly he looks and plays too old to be in scenes with Will and Mia just like Melanie. I would move him out of their orbit and into Melanie's and go from there but with them going out in real life now maybe that is too much.

I like how so much focus is placed on Molly hanging out with younger cast in real life but many in this thread seemed to ignore the fact that she also mentioned going to a dinner party hosted by Nadia Bjorlin LOL. I've also read her say she's hung out with Darin, Rachel, Shelley, Jay, Eric, and Felisha outside of work too so she isn't just staying in one age range as far as who she socially engages with LOL.

I am sorry but they both sound quite immature. I agree that it sounds like they have turned the studio into a college dorm of sorts. lol.....

Melanie should be in with the teens, but I do think it would be odd to suddenly do it now. Chad would probably still be ok, but I don't see her hanging around Mia or Will.

I think the way the character's been from day one makes it hard to put her in with the teens. Everything she went through with Trent and then interacting primarily with Nick, Chelsea, Stephanie, and Max to start out and then the whole business angle/Philip/Stephanie stuff...and now interacting with Brady, Arianna, and Maggie...I just think it would make little sense for the character IMO. Plus, she's 18. She's legal. Will and Mia are both 16. I just don't see Melanie even wanting to hang out with them.

I can't see Deidrick being in the story he is in either. Chad looks too old for Mia and he makes Will look like he is 10 LOL. They botched that casting IMO. Deidrick should've been casted as someone else and Chad should look more like Will and Mia's age.

The reason is because he is. He is 22 and the actress that plays Mia is 15.

Yea, cause Max and Chelsea were just oh so mature! And I actually was on record with being upset when they made her younger then 18 when she was Nick's love interest so no way I'm gonna accept her as Philip or God forbid Brady's.

The show is random as it is and there would be no problems with fitting her in with the teen set. Melanie does not act "mature" when she whines to Brady that nobody understands her, her big job is some sort of candy stripper thing (and the uniform looks ridiculous), and then you have her "playing" by having strip poker with the older characters of Brady, Nathan and Ari. The latter clearly was not a means to pull her up but to bring them down TO HER JUVENILE LEVEL. It's like how they wrote in for Daniel to be a surfer so he could seem younger and be in Chelsea's orbit.

And having Melanie NOT want to hang out with younger characters actually could be fun to write it in. Give her community service for all the crap she does along with Chad who doesn't want to do it. Do gooder Will could be in charge of leading the group which would annoy Melanie for taking orders from a guy like him. Mia could join in somehow because she hangs out with Will and there you have their interaction.

Or like I said before, Melanie gets fired at the hospital because she's useless (and lazy, etc.) so she has to take a job at the Java Cafe putting her around Mia. Let Mia look "up" to Melanie which will worry Will who does see her as a trouble maker. Then you have Melanie realizing she actually has a friend and be torn to use her for her own means. Then she winds up sleeping with Chad which upsets Mia in some way and that puts strain on the friendship. This could come right when Mia inevitably finds out what happened to her child.

I just don't see why some view this like it's outrageous to even attempt. We've watched the show force Chan down our throats by making Chelsea an occupational therapist, we've seen random elevator sex between characters who HARDLY KNOW EACH OTHER. We had retconned grandma sex. We've seen Daniel and Chloe become attracted by the Breast porn exam. We've seen Melanie go from Nick to Philip to EJ (eek, remember that?) to Brady back to Nathan to Philip. They have her having quality family time with a woman who by all rights should throw Melanie out on her ass, but instead sees the "daughter" she never had. The show is full of contrived situations, many more forced then the simple option of letting a character hang out with characters HER OWN AGE.

I donīt think this is a good idea. You cannot pair two outsider characters. Who would care about them. I know Mel is very close with Maggie and there is still a chance she will be eventually revealed as Nicolīs daughter, but you need atleast half of the couple to have some strong ties in Salem. Thatīs the main reason why Nathan is a Horton and his Horton roots are reminded so much. They needed someone for Mel and they knew in order to secure Melanieīs position on the show he has to have strong ties in Salem.

Besides, Molly and Casey are still young. I wish them best but they are together maybe two months now and they can as much easily breakup next week. I really donīt want some awkward offscreen resentments to be projected on screen.

Btw. Melanie and Brady trying to save things together again? Iīm really starting to wonder if the show had some trouble with FT. Because so many scenes which could be Ari and Brady together and used to build their relationship are Mel and Brady instead. Seems weird.

Melanie is been around for a year now and they are in love with her, so that's the "inside" character you need. Melanie has been on the show much longer then Mia yet there are Chad/Mia scenes. And if there is chemistry there, then I can let go there is no ties to either main family. I'm honestly getting tired of how everyone has to be related to a Horton or Brady anyhow. It's what has gotten us into the UF mess we were in not to mention that Brady is related to ALL the core families so he must be with an outsider. I remember when Hogan brought Stephanie back with Jeremy and Jett, and it irked me to death that three people from three different core families would hook up and become friends in a random place as Ohio.

Now I do admit that having MB and the guy playing Chad was problematic a bit, but IMO they are actors and if I was the show, I'd tell them to act professional and if they choose to date outside the "office" and it blows up, they still have to do their parts.

I watched Bo, Hope, Shane and Kim.

This is not Bo, Hope, Shane and Kim.

That said, I'm joking. It won't be like the old Days, but they're building a pretty solid younger set. Add to that the returns (Wally, Louise... Judi? Michael?) and this could be a pretty good fall.

I wish we could see a picture of them together to see if they have chemistry. I can't really picture them side by side.

Add me to those fans that want to see Melanie taken out of Philip, Stephanie, Brady, Arianna, etc. orbit and into Will, Mia and Chad's. I think she'll fit in better there now that Max, Chelsea and Nick are gone.
