Shawn Pyfrom Leaving Desperate Housewives
July 28, 2009

Wisteria Lane is losing one of its longtime residents.

Shawn Pyfrom, 22, who plays Desperate Housewives‘ Andrew Van De Kamp, the troubled son of Marcia Cross’s character, won’t be coming back full-time, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

“Shawn’s not returning for a full season next fall,” a source tells PEOPLE. “But he’ll come back and make a few guest star appearances.”

The source says it was a tough call for the actor to make. “His decision didn’t come easy,” the source says, “but he wants to pursue new television and film opportunities.”

Desperate Housewives returns to ABC on Sept. 27.

Aww, this sucks. He was always one of my favorites. Andrew never got enough story, IMO.

Can't say as I didn't see this coming. Aside from his subplot revolving around the boyfriend and managing his mother's business, he didn't have much to do.

Aw, sucks but at least he had a little airtime last season. Sounds like it was his own decision though. Can't say I blame him.

He was a great character so I'll miss him and his scheming even though he was a bit "blanded down" last season!

I don't blame him. Andrew's just been glorified window dressing the past few years.

I liked his character, sad to see him go even though he's hardly had any story these past few years.
