Please link to DR Co-Head Writer Jill Lorie Hurst gives SOD a preview of what viewers can expect to happen in Springfield during GL's bittersweet September 18th finale. "There will be new beginnings, some long overdue reunions, a lot of laughter, tears and, what's at the heart of GUIDING LIGHT - family," promises Hurst. "On a certain level, it's such a joy to know that we would be able to position these wonderful characters in a way that sends them off - I call it a transition, not an ending - into the next stage of their lives. It's really gratifying to revisit old relationships and couples." Concerning the highly anticipated returns of Nola, Dylan, Bridget, Fletcher and Holly, Hurst says, "Ellen [Wheeler, EP] was very open to returns of veteran, beloved characters, but she wanted it to be at the right event and in the right way. We worked very hard to come up with the right connection for Fletcher, who comes in for something lovely at the very end. We had Holly come back, the wonderful Maureen Garrett, and we sat and thought about that for quite a long time. We wanted Holly's day to be about the anguish of love - Holly and Roger, basically - so we have her talking about love and she has her own ending." "We aren't dealing with flashbacks," Hurst explains. "We didn't have time to do some of the things we would've loved to have done. Things have to happen more quickly than we would've liked, but the audience won't go away not knowing. It's not a scratch-your-head mystery ending. We're not throwing any curves. We wanted to remind the audience, acknowledge our past, and push characters who've returned and our current characters [and] give them all a satisfying resolution or place to take off into. [Fans] will have a very good idea about what their lives will be." As far as Phillip's fate is concerned, Hurst says, "Phillip is trying to resolve a lot of things. We try to talk about everybody's love story and Phillip has Beth and his children. He wants to resolve all those things, but his greatest love story and his greatest agony is with his father. That's a lot of what we dealt with." Will Reva be reunited with Josh or Jeffrey? Hurst teases, "You will know. You'll see the future for all three of them. It will be clear." |

Thanks Mason. Didn't have time my ass. They had months. This better be good. I haven't been watching GL, but I will tune into the final episode. |

I agree. They didn't plan well enough, and now they're trying to save face. |

I am very grateful we're getting what we are getting(I haven't really been a watcher of GL in a looooong time, but I'll tune in to the finale), but no flashbacks?! That excuse is pathetic! |

It hurts so good...

It sounds like GL's last episode will be kind of weak. No flashbacks?! This show will NEVER. AIR. AGAIN. and they can't manage to squeeze in a little flashback or two? What a crock! |

No it isn't an ending at all, I did appreciate that, so we can make up whatever we'd like to see for these characters. ;) They knew in April they would have to wrap things up even if it did get picked up somewhere else as not everyone would make the transition. |

Frank D spilled the beans on a news segment that the finale is a flash forward sequence. GL felt they couldn't wrap up their stories in a timely manner so this is what they came up with for an ending.

The last week should be PAINFULLY SAD. Not just the last day. No flashbacks is just absurd. It's called laziness. Nobody wanted to take the time or effort to compile some. The sad part is I'm sure there are legions of fans, hell even actors (from OTHER soaps too) who would do it. I remember Melody Thomas Scott taking time out to compile a Cassie montage, while Cassie was in a coma on Y&R. I think it's obvious they are doing a flash forward. Hopefully it will be something memorable like "Six Feet Under," however not a carbon copy of it. Edited by MTSRocks, Aug 27 2009, 06:27 PM.

That is such a cop-out. I really don't like, it to be honest. And what pisses me off is that they DID have enough time. But they wasted it. I mean, for instance, did they really need to spend a whole week and a half memorializing Jeffrey, when he's not even dead? Stupid. |

They've been stretching the current stories and killing people only to immediately bring them back. The final months have been wasted at GL. And then no flashbacks? They probably don't want to deal with the new production model, but it's pretty stupid. A slap in the face to the history of the show. |

The show is the longest running soap, and one of the longest running TV shows, in existence. I know you can't really have flashbacks from the radio years, and they don't have ALL of the old episodes still around, but there is PLENTY they could flashback to, and I am sure they have plenty of time. Its ridiculous. |

If they had shown old clips, we would know how much it doesn't look as good as it did. Supposedly the flash forward is about a year or something. |

Also, I think it's kind of shitty for Frank Dicopoulos to spoil the ending of the show, even though he didn't say exactly how things would end. Still, some element of surprise has been taken away, and I personally resent that. |

Perhaps there will be lots of flashbacks in the GL 60 Minutes special so GL felt they were covered in that respect. However, I agree that they should have included some in the final days of the show. |
