Tonight's show was really good. I'm not minding the new stage as much I was in the finale during the summer. They've worked out a lot of the kinks and the dancers don't seem to be swallowed up by the stage. What's with this season though? First Mia, then that one contestant, Paula, doesn't accept a spot in the top 20, then poor Billy got sick and now Noelle has hurt herself? So much drama! I wasn't happy with the replacement either, for Billy. Brandon was never as strong as some of the other guys they turned down, so I wasn't surprised to see him go. What did shock me was Nigel talking about trying to get him on the show next season. I don't think that's fair. If Brandon wanted this bad enough, he would have brought it in his dance tonight and he didn't. He was dragging Paulina down too. Damn Ryan is hot!. :swoon: Him and Elenore were fantastic in that Sonja piece. Definitely my favorite piece of the night. Second to that was Karen and Kevin's piece. I wasn't too familiar with the Ariana, the girl who left, but it's always hard to see them go. Can't wait for things to get back on schedule next week. |

I'm still having trouble keeping up with so many people. I'm like this at the start of AI too though. Mia Michaels: Why I Left So You Think You Can Dance Emmy Award-winning choreographer Mia Michaels, 43, exudes art and creativity in dance from her freshly shaved head to her expert toes. On Oct. 14, just moments after appearing on a Vegas-week episode of So You Think You Can Dance, she shocked fans across America, announcing (via Twitter) that she was leaving the show after five years. Speculation about her departure ranged from a strife with FOX to rumors of cancer (thanks to her new haircut). On Tuesday, Michaels spoke exclusively with PEOPLE and revealed the factors that drove her decision to leave, as well as what is on the horizon for a woman whose name is synonymous with dance. –Jed Dreben Why did you decide to move on from So You Think You Can Dance? It’s been an amazing five-year journey and I am in a place where I have all these great opportunities that have been presented to me and I am ready to take on all these challenges. So when I was working on the show, I wasn’t able to really focus on anything else. Now I’m really focusing on these other projects that I can’t pass up. I think that’s pretty much the main reason why I left the show. What went into the decision to make the announcement the way you did? And did anyone, like close pal and fellow SYTYCD choreographer Tyce Diorio, try to talk you out of it? No, nobody tried to talk me out of it. I’m so about my instincts. Instincts never lead you wrong and they’ve never led me wrong. It was a hard decision, actually, because I love doing the show. I love being an artist that millions of people get to see my work. I knew in that moment and we had not even talked about contracts or anything for the new season yet, so I was just ready to move while I had all this other opportunities in front of me. Before I got into the season with the dancers — you know actually getting into a room and creating on them — I just thought it was best for me to step out before I did that. After your announcement, you appeared on the final Vegas callbacks with your head shaved. Please address all the rumors, including the ones that you have cancer. As far as me shaving my head, I just felt the need to get rid of it. I was kind of falling into a Hollywood image thing a little bit, and I just felt like it was a cool time to just start over. And that’s why I shaved it. And I had said on the show, “It’s been a difficult time,” and it’s like the last couple months in my life personally I’ve just been going through things … And then when I read those things I went “Oh no!” I do not have cancer. You can put that to rest. Fans may be hoping this is just a break. Will you be back? It wasn’t a break because I came to Canada and I choreographed the finale here in Canada, and I have right now scheduled to do the U.K., and Australian [versions of the show], as well as the new Canadian season three, so it’s not like I need a break because creatively I feel like I have a lot to say right now. It was just a decision that I made. It’s just something that I needed to do. I’ve been doing this for a long time and this is just another step in my journey to now take it to the next level. Do you have any regrets in that you’re going to miss a chance to work with this cast? It’s not like I can’t go and see the family and support the dancers. In order for me to move forward in my career, sometimes we have to let go before other things can take off. Am I sad? There’s moments, of course, but I’m also doing these other shows that I still get my fix on SYTYCD because I’m still choreographing, I’m still judging, I’m still seeing Nigel. So it’s all a very positive thing. What new experiences are you talking about and what are about to start working on? I am right now in talks of doing my own choreography show. I’m also doing a dance musical that will probably be documented as a doc-reality show. And then I’m working on a clothing line for dancers as well as just everyday lifestyle. And I’m working on a book deal as well. Since leaving, what have you had a chance to enjoy now that you may not have been able to do while maintaining the show’s schedule? You know sometimes when you’re working on a show, it was like you had to deliver a piece every single week. And you do, you start feeling like a machine. And then you start wondering, “Where is the inspiration for real? Is it inspiration or is that you’ve got to deliver, so you just have to turn it on and do it.” Now I find myself actually more inspired and more excited about creating. I feel like this time is so crucial for me to take that next step in my life. Source: People.com |

I really love this show. People on there are so talented. It's amazing. I didn't mind people that left. I liked how Tabitha and Napoleon imagined the routine for Peter and Arianna, but I agree that it just wasn't happening. I adore Peter. I don't really know Arianna. But I did think Peter did amazingly technically, so I guess it could have been her that was not doing it for me tonight. As for Brandon... I hate that Billy left. He was SO AMAZING! I hope he comes back next season too, if they can change the rules for Brandon. Because Billy deserves this. Back to Brandon... I really didn't think his routine with Pauline was that bad. I really thought there was chemistry and that chemistry totally sold the routine for me. Pauline was AWESOME! She was so into it and made it believable. I did know they would kick Brandon out. Even before they danced. To me, it was between him and Philip. Speaking of Philip... his and Channing's jive was just okay for me. I think she did more than okay, but I didn't like Philip as much. I expected more, since he is a tapper and his foot work is great, but during jive, some of his kicks were just not there. So I wouldn't have minded if he left either. Who was next? Ashleigh and Jakob? I gotta admit, I didn't like this routine. I thought Jakob was AMAZING, but I did not like Ashleigh. Don't know what they saw in her last night. The cha cha by Karen and Kevin? Also wasn't feeling it as much as the judges did. Karen was great, but it was her genre so no surprise. Kevin was not that great. His smooth movements were good, but the rest.... and that horrible loop lift? It was bad.. The rest were great... Ryan and Elleonore were just awesome! Ryan really did show a new side to him and it was great to see it. He was dark and he so good at something new for him. Russell shocks me EVERY TIME! I thought his foxtrot was awesome. Sure, he might have made a few mistakes, but considering what his original genre is, omg! He was so elegant at times and so cool.. hope Noelle recovers, cause I don't wanna see anyone knew at this point. Victor and Bianca... OMG! I got my first chills of the season during this routine! Travis Wall is AMAZING! They need to sign him on to do choreography in every episode. He's THAT good! Victor and Bianca did some amazing work there. Some of those stuff was so difficult and they did it effortlessly. Plus, Victor is so pretty.. :D Disco routine was great! I usually don't like disco, but tonight I LOVED it. Both Mollee and Nathan were so into it and all those crazy lifts.. OMG! I was so shocked and it was just flawless. My favorite routine was Legacy and Kathryn's hip hop routine by Dave Scott. I just LOVE a good hip hop routine and Legacy and Kathryn totally BROUGHT it! Routine itself was so good. I love it when they use the music and the beat so much during a routine. And this routine was all about the beat and music. And Legacy and Kathryn did it tremendously, IMO! That, along with that disco and contemporary routine, is something I will rewatch throughout the season. Awesome show! PS I hate that Adam is a permanent judge. I loved how we got a new judge every time. I mean, Adam is okay, I just liked it when they switched. Sorry everyone for making this post so looooong.. :P Edited by Manny, Oct 28 2009, 03:47 PM.

Brandon had to learn that routine in less than 2 days and perform it. It would have been better if TPTB had brought in a past contestant to dance instead as the chance that he would continue was very small. If the injured girl can't come back for next week's show what will they do? |

Mia Michaels: I'm Going to Be the Next Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum You'll still get to see a lot of Mia Michaels, even though she's no longer on So You Think You Can Dance. The Emmy-winning choreographer, who shocked fans by announcing her exit last month on Twitter, has three shows, a book deal and a clothing line in the works. "It would've been very easy to stay," Michaels tells TVGuide.com. "But I had all these other opportunities to take my art to the next level. I just constantly want to keep challenging myself and keep putting my work out there." With so much going on, does she even have time to watch the Fox hit? See what she says, whether she'll return and why she thinks she'll be the next media mogul. TVGuide.com: Have you been watching So You Think You Can Dance? Mia Michaels: I have. I DVR it. It's interesting [to be a fan]. It feels strange because it's been part of my life for five years, but it feels cool. I love the dancers this year. I was sad when Ariana got cut the first week. I didn't get that at all! [Laughs] I would've fought Nigel on that panel for sure because she was awesome. Noelle and Billy being out — those are two powerhouse dancers. I'm just like, "Oh, no!" But it's been wonderful. It took me a minute to make the decision, but it's so right. TVGuide.com: When did you decide? Michaels: We do auditions a lot earlier on and during that time, I was still involved and working on Season 5. Before I got into the studio and put my creative stamp on Season 6, I thought it was the right time to leave, so I just finished the auditions and choosing the top 20. I felt it was the right time before I got attached to the kids and they got attached to me. ... The Twitter [post] made everyone catch on. I did not realize the power of Twitter! [Laughs] It's scary! I just tweeted that nonchalantly and then the next day, I wake up and I'm like, "What the hell happened?!" It's insane, but now I know what to use as definite promotional tools! TVGuide.com: When you first started the show, did you always plan to leave? Michaels: It's funny because when they first came to me, I was like, "Oh, a reality show?" I wasn't so sure because it's all about integrity for me. On a lot of reality shows, a lot of people act and are not honest about who they are. What makes good TV? That's the one thing I've learned from being on the show. I thought I'd take it one day at a time and next thing you know, five years and an Emmy later, I'm like, "Wow! OK. That was a journey." It comes to a point where, as an artist, you have to make changes in order for you to grow and challenge yourself. My whole thing is, if you're not growing, then you're stagnant and you die. Was it a hard decision? It was probably one of the hardest, but it was right for my future. TVGuide.com: Nigel said you're welcome back any time. Any plans this season? Michaels: We haven't really talked about that yet. We have a great relationship and if it's meant to be, it'll be. But right now, I'm focusing on my brand, exploring my new shows and a few other things. It is family and if it's meant to be, I'll be back, even as a guest. TVGuide.com: You left to work on the international editions of the show and you hurt your back choreographing the finale for the Canadian version. How are you feeling? Michaels: I hurt my back in September doing Janet Jackson's Michael Jackson tribute. I herniated a disc then. I healed from it and I get to Canada and start creating on the finale. I wasn't in any pain at all and the next thing you know, I'm in the hospital with a second disc. Right now, I have three disc issues. I'm probably going to be doing surgery, but nowadays, it's the laser, so it'll be in and out. I just hate this whole not being able to dance and move. It's like being in jail. TVGuide.com: Can you tell us more about your choreography show? Michaels: It's going to be unbelievable! [Laughs] I'm going to be the next Tyra, Heidi Klum ... I'm also going to be doing shows and stuff where America can see my work. I'm going to be hands-on, creating. You'll really get a sense of who I am now as opposed to the little bits you see on So You Think. There are three separate shows that are right now being talked about. Another is a stage show that will be touring that will be documented as a "making of" reality show. I'm excited. It's time. TVGuide.com: The fan reaction has been overwhelming. Some people think the quality of the show will go down without you. What do you have to say to that? Michaels: I feel very honored. When you just do your work and you read these things, it's like, "Whoa!" I try not to feel guilty for leaving! [Laughs] I get mail also: "How could you do this to us?" I'm like, "Dude, really?" It's an honor. I feel very, very blessed to be able to affect the public with my art through my own life. My work is like a visual journal. It's very cool. I honestly didn't know the power and all the fans that I truly have, which is truly awesome. But it's also important to stay humble. I try not to buy into it. Source: TVGuide.com |

I love Mia so much! I am going to miss her A LOT this year! I really hope she comes back next summer! On to the show... I really didn't think this was the strongest show ever. I didn't like most of the routines. What I did like (AGAIN) were Legacy and Kathryn! OMG! I never would have thought coming into this season that they would turn out to be my favorite couple after two shows! They were really good. I think Stacey Tucci did an amazing job of choreographing for Legacy. When I heard they were doing contemporary, I was like: Oh crap! This is gonna be a disaster. But it really wasn't. I think she really played to his strengths. And Kathryn was just amazing. That part when he jumps on her side? WHAT? Amazing! The routine DID look a lot like Mia's Addiction routine for Kayla and Kupono last year, though. Bollywood was good, Mollee and Nathan did a great job, but I just wasn't feeling it for some reason. Tango by Ryan and Eleonore was also good, but I kept thinking how Brandon and Janette's tango from last season was so much more intense. But I did catch her shoe being stuck in her dress, so I was like: Whoa... I think Peter was AMAZING during that Wade Robson routine. I didn't like Pauline as much. I hated that Tyce routine for Victor and Bianca. It was bad. Samba was awesomely choreographed, but it was too much for Philip. Channing did great, IMO. The waltz was good, both did a good job, but waltzes usually bore me, so.... Noelle and Russell were okay, but the entire routine was weird. I'm forgetting someone... Right, Karen and Kevin... It was good, but I don't see why they are all so mesmerized by Karen. I mean, she's great, but she's not as great as they make her be, IMO. I liked when she jumped on his thighs and shook her ass in his face.. :D As for the eliminations, I love that Philip is gone. He should have gone last week, IMO. But omg, I felt so sad when he said his father died a week ago! OMG! I was SHOCKED that Bianca left! She didn't deserve to go, IMO. Noelle should have left. But I was just so scared that they would eliminate Victor, that I after Bianca was eliminated, I was like: Okay, I am willing to sacrifice her, but lets just keep Victor! Guys are so much better than girls this season. As opposed to last season.. |

Thanks for posting the Mia articles Rhi! So glad she's got lots of work ahead of her! Last night's episode had a slow start but I did enjoy some of the routines. ITA with Manny about Ryan and Elenore's Argentine Tango. Brandon and Janette's will always be hard to top but I thought Elenore especially brought it. She continues to impress me. I really liked Karen and Kevin's routine as well, no surprise, but I think Karen is going to continue to outshine Kevin. Her and Elenore are my top girls this season. Legacy and Kathryn's piece was amazing. He's really grown, as the judges pointed out and she's coming out of nowhere with her skills! How horrible to hear about Philip's father passing, but I do think he should have gone. What a tough call to make though and I'm glad I wasn't the one to have to do it. WORST decision of the season thus far was to let Bianca go instead of Noelle. Bianca did better in both her partner routine with Victor(who's solo was fantastic), and Bianca's solo was loads better than Noelle's. Such a shame. I was actually pretty upset when it all went down. LoL! |

I was so sure they would eliminate Noelle. I kinda got the feeling that's where Nigel was going while he was speaking to both Bianca and Noelle. But then my jaw dropped when he said: Noelle, you're staying with us. :o I think Noelle's solo was good. But I would have kept Bianca. So Karen and Eleonore are your favorite girls? I don't think I have a favorite girl. I think guys are so much better this year. I don't know which one I like more: Victor, Jakob, Legacy, Nathan... |

I still can't believe that Paulina and Peter went last week. I was really starting to like them. It sucks that Karen and Kevin didn't have a great dance this week and I think Nigel is right about Karen possibly turning off the younger voters. Legacy and Kathryn continue to really stand out. I was also pretty impressed with Ryan and Elenore's piece. I thought they were really rather strong. I'm still not enjoying Nathan and Molly. They are obviously great dancers but there is something about their personality that just annoys me. Russell still impresses the heck out of me, but I don't really care for Noel. Ashleigh and Jakob were really good too. I'm definitely one of those who didn't think Ashleigh would grow this much. |

I just watched the show and I agree pretty much with everything you said, Mateo! Legacy and Kathryn stand out so much to me. I mean, others are great as well, but something about Legacy and Kathryn really gets to me and I LOVE watching them. Passo doble was AMAZING and it was my favorite of the night. I think they overrated Ryan and Eleonore's routine a bit too much. I enjoyed it (as I do with all other Travis Wall routines) but I didn't think it was THAT amazing. Jakob and Ashleigh were also great. I loved their hip hop. Tabitha and Napoleon always have fun stories in their routines. I was one of those that didn't believe in Ashleigh, but she's become slowly one of my favorites. Jakob is just amazing. While I do think Victor is AMAZING and so hot, the judges are right that he didn't have a breakout performance yet. So I'm hoping it happens soon, cause I'm scared he might be voted off next, which I would HATE! Nathan and Mollee are nothing special for me. Meh... I was glad they were in bottom 3. And I hate that they always dance last. Why do they always get the pimp spot?! Sad to see Kevin and Channing, but I really didn't know who else should go. |

As much as I love the show, it's proven, at least for me, to be tough to keep up with during the fall. I already watch way too much, so I wouldn't be upset if they went back to airing just in the summer. It works well there. With regards to this season, I'm rooting for Elenore. I was shocked that Legacy went this past week. He's really been a top contender, but I think people may have thought he was safe and voted for other dancers. That table dance him and Elenore performed was my favorite of the night. What a stand up guy Ryan continues to prove he is, with telling people to vote for his wife. He's such a class act. Really glad that Molly isn't in the finale. This season seemed to have gone by so fast. |
