Golden Globe winner James Franco is joining the cast of GENERAL HOSPITAL for a short run. Jilliam Michaels tweeted about it on Monday which immediately made soap fans think they were being Muhney'd again but it looks like this one is true. Steve Burton confirmed on his own Twitter account last night.

What’s even better than a movie star joining GENERAL HOSPITAL? The possibility of him bringing a fan favorite back with him!

On Twitter last night, a fan asked Steve Burton (Jason) whether Spider-Man’s James Franco was joining GH… and if he was bringing Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda) back with him! Burton, who shares a manager with Franco, answered, “Franco is… don’t know about Vanessa.”

Elsewhere in the Twitterverse, THE BIGGEST LOSER trainer Jillian Michaels — who also happens to be Marcil’s best friend and godmother to her son, Kassius — told fans that she was having dinner with Marcil. When a fan told her to pass along the audience’s love, Michaels later tweeted, “She said James Franco is doing 2 months on the show and she would consider going back for that time to work with him.”

We hear that Franco will work a few days at week on the GH set, taping several shows a day. A source says that Franco “wants to do everything” and would take on his GH role as research for an upcoming film project. Might his character be linked to the new Cassadines flooding Port Charles?

James Franco Joins GH
That's right, Golden Globe winner James Franco (Spider-Man, Milk) is taking The Pineapple Express straight to Port Charles. GENERAL HOSPITAL confirmed the surprising casting news to the Associate Press hours after it had already spread across the Internet like wildfire in rumor form. GH Executive producer Jill Farren Phelps noted in the statement that it is "an honor that an actor of Franco's caliber would choose to spend some of his valuable time in Port Charles." Franco will debut on Nov. 20 in an as-yet undisclosed role and is expected to be on the canvas for approximately two months.

Film Star James Franco Checks Into ‘General Hospital’

James Franco, a Golden Globe winner and the star of such films as ‘Pineapple Express‘ and the blockbuster ‘Spider-Man‘ franchise, is checking into ‘General Hospital‘ - but only on an “out patient” basis, you might say.

Franco will debut on the ABC soap opera on November 23, and then appear off and on for about two months, a GH spokesman tells me.

Details on Franco’s role are being kept under wraps, but this much is known: His character will represent “the worst nightmare” for Jason Morgan, the mob thug played by Emmy winner Steve Burton.

What led Franco, who got his start on the prime-time comedy ‘Freaks and Geeks,’ back to the smaller screen? A source says he simply wanted to give soaps a try, and thus reached out to ABC’s ‘GH.’ That Franco and Burton, his soon-to-be on-screen nemesis, share a manager is pure coincidence.

The Franco news caps a wild sequence of casting developments at ‘GH.’ Earlier this week it was announced that Emmy winner Jonathan Jackson will reclaim the role of Lucky Spencer (a character he originated) on October 27, while Sarah Joy Brown is vacating the role of Claudia to join CBS rival ‘The Bold and the Beautiful‘ starting November 6.

In addition to the stoner comedy ‘Pineapple Express’ and the ‘Spider-Man’ pics (where he played Harry Osbourne), Franco’s credits include ‘Milk‘ and the 2001 TV-movie ‘James Dean,’ for which he won a Golden Globe in the title role.

James Franco to Guest Star on General Hospital
by Michael Logan October 01, 2009 01:09 PM EST

Hard to believe but movie star James Franco has agreed to do a short-term role on General Hospital—and it was his idea! A publicist for the ABC soap say the adventuresome actor—famous for his roles in “Spider-Man” and “Milk”—wanted to test his chops on a grueling daytime drama.

“He loves to explore the different types of acting that are available and had never done soaps and was really interested in the amount of work soap actors do—he wanted to try it out,’ says the network rep, noting that Franco contacted GH directly. “Basically, the attitude from the writers and producer is, ‘When you pick up the phone and it’s James Franco saying he wants to work with you, the only answer you have is, ‘Yes!’” Adds the rep with a laugh: “There’s an open invitation to any other A-List movie stars who want to come to General Hospital.”

Franco supposedly knew about GH and the back-breaking workload of soaps—because he shares a manager with Steve Burton, who plays the show’s underworld thug Jason Morgan. Franco, who is currently in Ireland, is scheduled to tape several episodes in three days—October 30, November 6 and November 13—and they will air over the course of two months. His first airdate is November 20. So far ABC is offering very few details about Franco’s character, except to say that he will be “very mysterious and Jason Morgan’s worst nightmare.”

Not the greatest career move. I don't see him bringing the ratings in for GH. Another failed stunt by Frons.

Yep yep. ABC Soaps In Depth has a thing on it too - basically reiterating what everyone else is saying and adding, "A source says that Franco 'wants to do everything' and would take on his GH role as research for an upcoming film project."

Wow. How insanely random.

I wonder why he would do GH as research for a film role? Will he be playing a soap star in an upcoming movie? LoL

I doubt it. He's in school. And according to IMDB he has three films in post-production, and filming another two.
