Eric Braeden is Back!

He was ready to say "farewell" to Genoa City forever, but in the end, everything worked out and Eric Braeden is back as Y&R's Victor Newman. Soap fans rejoice!

When his contract negotiations went south, Eric Braeden truly believed that he was done at Y&R for good. However, an intermediary stepped in at the last minute (reportedly Les Moonves) and got Sony and Braeden talking again. "Let's just say there was a meeting of the minds," grins the actor. "I think we both understood each other's positions. Very often if one feels very angry about something, there is a certain moment of reflection, and then you are ready to reach out again to that person. There just has to be a willingness to come to some form of reconciliation. It's called forgiveness. There is a point where you say, 'It's okay. I forgive myself and I forgive others.' Only that way can people heal."

Braeden still believes that things would've been much smoother if communication between himself and Sony had been better from the start. "What I would advise all people who are negotiating is to sit down with someone who has been on the show as long as I have been, just sit down with them and talk to them. Explain it. I think you arrive at far better results with less acrimony if you just show a basic respect for whoever you are negotiating with. I should not look at them as simply a corporation and they should not look at me as a cog in the wheel. Humanize the process."

As happy as Braeden is to be returning to the role of Victor Newman, he understands that going back to the studio may feel awkward at first. "I assume it's like going through a divorce," he explains. "Jess Walton and I have talked about it. She said it's the most peculiar thing to then come back. You go through all these emotions."

Braeden explains that he has immense respect for his fellow cast members. "We have some damn good actors," he says. "I enjoy working with them all, to be frank with you. There's no a person I don't enjoy working with. We have wonderful actors."

Braeden says that he really appreciates the support he was given by cast mates like Melody Thomas Scott and Sharon Case, but he was especially touched by the amount of support he received from the fans. "I have to say, the audience's reaction surprised me and deeply touched me. I'm inclined to be a cynic about these things and I honestly did not realize what kind of reaction this would evoke. When you work in a studio, you become sort of isolated and you don't really have a sense of how you affect the viewing audience. It's extraordinary."

As for what he's looking forward to now that he's back in Genoa City as the powerful Mr. Newman? "Ooh," grins Braeden. "He has got to come back and kick ass!"

hi has any one else heard the rumors the most othe cast are unhappy that he back and that sony were pissed about his bitching and thats why they
released his salary. EB is not worth a million dollars. i hate victor and will someone please gag EB everybody knows he caved plus most of the fans i talked to and on the of meeage board didn't give damn if he was going are staying most fans wanted him gone. victor storylines are pointless he always wins and gets women young enough to be his daughter he looks like a creepy grandfather . melody thomas scott supported him because she was about to lose her job if he didn't sign and don't EB and sharon case have the same agent.

I don't know what message boards you read, but the ones I go to are glad he's not leaving, even the fans who hate Victor, admit it would not be Y&R without him.
Evidently at some point SOMEONE thought he was worth $1.5 million, otherwise he wouldn't have been drawing that salary.
I am among the many who would have given up Y&R if Victor was gone, during the negotiations, I had already down-sized my viewing, imo, the show is worthless without the evil billionaire with a soft side.

It isn't just a rumor. Michael Logan, the soap columnist for TV Guide magazine, wrote that most of the Y&R cast is unhappy that Braeden is returning. The only one who seems to be supporting him is Melody Thomas Scott.

I surf the message boards and the vast majority of posters on ALL the message boards seem to be unhappy that Braeden is returning. Victor has become the most disliked character on Y&R. Not a character you love to hate just a character so many viewers just can't stand. EB has proven himself to be an arrogant jerk and most viewers would have preferred that he be gone. But it was inevitable that EB would cave and go crawling back to SONY despite his hissy fits.

did anyone read the interview PB gave about EB. he says EB won't play victor as losing and is always hijacking the set with his demands on how victor should be played. he also said the the writers would be able to write a story instead to on actors demands. EB should have been fired.his ego is over blown he would be nothing if it wasn't for MTS and PB willing to playing the under dogs all the time.
